You are the only go to for technical analysis of the progress towards the Cup. Great
Using the old foils makes perfect sense to me. The first thing I'd want to do is established that my new boat can go as fast as my old boat with the same foils. I also think the main sheeting system looks brilliant, I'm surprised we didn't see this earlier.

Its more a case of not exposing our design and giving other teams time to copy it. Hence using the old foils

What a beautiful looking AC75! This boat already looks fast, stable and low to the water line. Even on older foils. Will be fascinated to see how fast this boat will get with all the tweaks and changes it will under go between now and the defenders series. A boat like this and a crew like Burling and Tuke this will be combination that will take some beating. Good luck to the challengers.

Preciuos review of new Te Reutai guys. I look forward to see your report on Luna Rossa now...🙏
The Champions👊🏽ETNZ
Interesting video 👍
Does the camber on the bustle give an indication of how trim could be used to increase the effency of the sails? Bow down mast raked forward (see forward raked wins on aircraft) reduces the tip vortex and associated drag but there are control issues some of which are mitigated by only having 1 wing.
Mind blowing tech. It’s seems a pity it’s not being contested in NZ but if the Kiwis get up in Barcelona then it will stamp them as one of the worlds greatest sailing nations. Frank Worsley would be utterly amazed and mighty proud of his sailing descendants. Go ETNZ.
Trench looking learned from luna rossa? Foils now must on for AC in barcelona? what about sails? They still able now using foils and sails from before and changing to real cup stuff later? Thanks telling my question about foils... interesting see end of sail and sail controll. Im not counted how many after rules every team built already.
I'd be flying them out and I'm a kiwi. As a wingsurfer and hobby foil designer, there's always more tweaks you can put into a foil 😁
The super interesting thing about this ETNZ setup is that they used 4m old foils instead of the 4.5 new ones. Okay, it's a ton lighter, but it shows a huge confidence in what they've done.
Do the old foils count in the number of foil models they can have this time round? Whatever the case it makes total sense to benchmark all the changes to the hull, rudder and rig against the old foils before locking down this years foil designs. Great video!
Saw it sailing yesterday, shit she is fast , wasn’t a calm day too launched , mast , sails , gone ,,,no pissing about

It seemed to get up foiling very easily! Atleast we know they'll be lots of wind there
Great video. How much better/faster do you think these new boats will be? Will there be a measurable improvement in performance or ability to get on the foils, do you think?
Pretty polished design, will it be enough? Time will tell. Tom, what are your thoughts on crew going under the deck please?
Thanks Mozzy, brilliant analysis of this gorgeous AC75. The bow is very elegant and almost snooty. She knows all the other girls have to beet her to win the cup haha. The profile is almost similar to the last American challenger, don't you think?
Make sure you have some beer in the fridfe for Rob.
The new boat looks pretty nice to me. Proof is always in the pudding though!
The way the transom pinches in will probably be faster when in displacement mode.
Bella🎉
I am guessing we will see the new foils on Thursday 18th April
The first thing that jumped out at me was that the mast seems further aft than on Te Rehutai. There seems to my unscientific eye to be (possibly?) more foredeck length in front of the jib tack as well. I am wondering if this indicates: 1. the sail plan is further aft as a whole; and 2. the sail plan is higher aspect (as a whole)? This would (if it is the case) seem to indicate a conscious choice to top end optimisation, and I was expecting there to be a MASSIVE premium on achieving lift off in lumpy seas and light airs. I understand this is a trade off, but would be interested in your detailed analysis and the 3 of you discussing: (a) Is the mast step further aft (i) overall; and (ii) relative to the foil arms? (b) Is the sail plan as a whole higher aspect ration than Te Rehutai's? (c) Is there more deck length forward of the jib tack?

Berlusconi in an interview has just stated that the sails extend down to the water which when you look at the new boat sailing and the deep bustle i understand, would be interested in your comments
The transit down time is a massive factor in the etnz programme. And believe me, it hurts them.
Teh - rrrreh - hoo - tie 👍
Your fast again
I think when it comes to foil designs the difference is Dan Bernasconi. The guy is miles ahead of the game
These things are looking more and more like something you would see flying around Lando Calrissian's cloud city in Star Wars.
Looks like it will sail like a hot knife through butter
Would it be fair to say Orient Express will be identical - coming from the same design house. My hunch is (putting it out there) LR will look similar to ETNZ. INEOS and ARBull will be of similar design. AMagic will be somewhere in between (unknown?).

Please also analyze from the video I took of Team NZ's ac75
To the winners go the foils
Do you think they fitted the old foils to get a like for like comparison to the performance of the last boat? If the foils are the same, then they can assess their new control systems?
@MozzySails
23 күн бұрын
true, they must have lots of data on those old foils. Although out and out performance probably isn't the main aim for now, they're probably still designing control systems and trialling them for feasibility

That's _exactly_ what I was thinking (it's how I do things myself) along with possibly not wanting to reveal their newest foil iteration too soon. However, the latter reason is much less critical seeing that ETNZ was already advanced in foil development.

No name yet. I understand the ceremony for naming is next week. A bit unorthodox for a usual launch!
I think ETNZ are intending to be foiling 100% and have designed as such. They have refined the hull shape to be as slippery as possible through the air. The bustle is purely for end plating, not for touchdown/takeoff. That’s my take anyway. Can’t wait to see their new race foils, and some speed data at that time.
@derekness7900

Interesting-if you’re foiling 100% of the time maybe “old” foils are faster as I presume new foils are larger and draggier

@scotthallinan5729 they certainly all have them for safety reasons. The reason Luna Rossa didn't have them in durung the launch is because they didn't have anyone on the boat while it was at height.
Look at the video attached. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aGyJ2JZ7j5ncqdI.html Look at 55s. Are the foils not parallel to the centre line? They look splayed out but why would you want your leeward foil to track you away from the wind? Would be good for down wind but bad for upwind. If anything like a trim tab on keel on the old monohulls you would want the foil to track to windward. Does can't angle change this logic? Or is the angle deceptive on the video. I will let you investigate :)
Ko,Taihoro Nukukrangi ahau.
This is why it never makes sense to host the america's cup away from where you are. If this AC was in Auckland like it should be then ETNZ wouldn't have to worry about any transit.
@michaelhowell8412

I feel your pain but we just didn't have the financial backing from the government, it's also a timezone issue (race times in N.Z don't suit where the majority of the World wide viewers are) just means we get to see Live racing outside of our work hours
@jamesaron1967
23 күн бұрын
ETNZ had no alternative otherwise the AC would be hosted in Auckland again.
So, why wouldn’t they fly the boat in like AM? Makes no sense to ship. What does that time scale look like? Time lost not refining the new boat. Maybe they think the lost time is ultimately not relevant as they are now pretty experienced with these boats?
@MozzySails
23 күн бұрын
Good question. I think the cost would be significantly more from Aukland and need stops. Maybe they feel that if they can get the hull commissioned, then re-focus on finishing foils which boat is in transit, then they don't lose as much. After, foil design is probably most critical and an early launch with old foils buy them more development time.

I am an adopted kiwi, and im so unfussed by this launch and have no sympathy for the logistics in getting to Barcelona. NEW ZEALAND won the cup and NEW ZEALAND should be hosting, yes the cup is about money but it’s ridiculous that you’ve been taking state subsidies for years and then as soon as its convenient bugger off overseas for a ‘home’ regatta I hope anyone else wins
@geofflowe7237
14 күн бұрын
I sure wish they could do it here at home in Aotearoa, but I accept the argument they were much less likely to be able to be able to afford a winning defence if they stayed at home. On the subsidies... They weren't actually that much over the years. In fact the majority of the spend by central and local government on the Americas Cup in New Zealand has been on infrastructure which we're all benefiting from now (in Auckland, at least). Any investment made in ETNZ has already reaped a significant return for us tax payers, so they really don't owe us anything for past "subsidies"! Bear in mind, ETNZ's mission is to win and defend the Americas Cup. Simple as that. There's nothing in there about maximising sleep and convenience for those of us at home!
Please pronounce the re in Te retuhai as in Reference. Be much better!
Naturally ,the yacht "has" to have a maori name-no english allowed anymore-whats wrong with say kiwi flyer-who the hell knows what kaitoro means,The world knows NZers are called "kiwis"-great for tourism.Oh no maoris are now a special race and demand all new events must be maori eg womens rugby all maori names.
