Razor MX650/MX500 Electric Dirt bike Upgrade Comparison

Ғылым және технология

This video is to compare different performance characteristics between stock mx500/mx60 with the same bike with upgraded components. The cheap kit can be found on ebay and amazon. The last video shows the same spec motor, though it is from a company known for higher quality parts, but the performance difference between the cheap kit and the more expensive one is largely do to the much higher quality Kelly speed controller that has the ability to demand more amperage from the batteries to send to the motor. You can't really tell in the video, but the Kelly contoller provides much more power that is also infinately more smoothe and consistent to the ebay kit. You can modify the ebay controller to give better power output, but I have yet to do that on my build. My Kelly Controller and Kunray 2kw motor were purchased from Gerardo Salas (contact information below).

    Considering the 2000w motor you got, what is your battery’s max wattage output rated at?

  • @NerdsWithFriends

    @NerdsWithFriends

    Жыл бұрын

    So supposedly my batteries are each rated at 30 amps. 48v packs are 52 volts fully charged. My batteries are ran in parallel meaning I should be able to pull 60 amps. 60ax52v=3120 watts. That’s the math but I’m a novice so if there is more to it, I am unaware.

    So you didn't run into any issues with burning the stock motor up when running it at 48v? Do you have to change the throttle when you do that?

  • @NerdsWithFriends

    @NerdsWithFriends

    Жыл бұрын

    So the biggest problem with overvolting is heat. Light riders should not have any issues. They exceed on flat pavement. Once you start having heavier riders, hilly terrain, and especially riding in the grass you can start burning up motors. The stock throttle is fine.

    @@AnewDaddy very cool! Yea, volts typically correspond to top speed while amps give you your torque figure. An Mx350 stock should do around 14mph (at 24v) so at 36v you’d expect the top speed to be 150% the normal speed which is pretty much right where you are. That’s awesome that you’re able to reach those speeds as a full grown man! Be careful with it in the grass though- I burnt up a couple 36v motors in mx350’s. If you do burn it up, there is a 500 watt version of that motor you can throw in there that handles the heat better but, ironically, it’s actually slower at about 17mph if memory serves me correctly. (I have the motor on my buggy now. I no longer have any 350’s) but the 500w motor is already rated at 36v.

    Be patient. Piece by piece is fine. Keep your eye out on offer up, Facebook marketplace and Craigslist. You’ll find a good deal on a used bike - I got one of mine free but it may take a while. Batteries are the most expensive part (if going lithium) so get on the forums to watch out for good deals on used packs. You can always use cheap SLA (lead acid) batteries as well while saving for batteries - but lithium performance is where it’s at. You can overvolt the stock controller and motor by 50% (so 48v) and it should be a problem- especially in NYC where I assume most of your riding will be on pavement.

    Not at all man. You can get 48v lead acid chargers, usually made for something like a golf kart. What I did when I had multiple lead acids to charge (I’m not saying best practice, it’s just what I did) is got a splitter and charged my 12v batteries in parallel. I used a 12v trickle charger with an adapter that had like 5 connectors on it that would charge each battery to 12v and then reconnect them in series. You could also use a 24v split to charge 2 banks of 24v batteries in parallel before reconnecting them in series. I apologize if this doesn’t make sense. It be much easier to draw out or show you.
