Based on Elmore Leonard’s novella “Fire in the Hole,” Justified was developed by Graham Yost and stars Timothy Olyphant as Deputy US Marshal Raylan Givens, a lawman who finds himself drawn back to his home state of Kentucky. In Justified’s final season, the long brimming conflict between Raylan and Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) will finally come to a head. The series co-stars Walton Goggins as ‘Boyd Crowder;’ Nick Searcy as ‘Chief Deputy Art Mullen;’ Jacob Pitts as ‘Deputy Marshal Tim Gutterson;’ Erica Tazel as ‘Deputy Marshal Rachel Brooks;’ Joelle Carter as ‘Ava Crowder;’ and Jere Burns as ‘Wynn Duffy.’ Yost wrote the pilot and serves as Executive Producer/Writer on the series. Executive Producers on the series include Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman, Michael Dinner, Fred Golan, Dave Andron, Don Kurt, Taylor Elmore, Timothy Olyphant, and the late Elmore Leonard. I love that there are so many moments like that in this series. The "genteel" Southern manners mixed with "gangster" behavior. Like when Art was in the cafe with Picker. Basically, "I can shoot you from right here no problem. But let's not interrupt people's breakfast." 😂#theOGJustifiedistheBest

This show was perfect - the absolute best cast of actors, excellent writing. It was another series i didn't want to end.
Many don't realize that Raylan had to be calm enough to gently pull the tablecloth so the friction of the gun on the table wasn't overcome by inertia. It's these subtle nuances that made it such an enjoyable moment and show.

"We never dug coal together."
Tuco' s comment about not talking when it's time to do the deed applies to everything: "When you have to shoot, shoot; don't play games."
this show is endlessly brilliant. fortunately there's tons of amazing clips on youtube, like this, for me to revisit. this scene is an example of some of the best stuff on tv in the past decade (ie: breaking bad): the writers create an INESCAPABLE situation and yet find a way for the protagonist to win. brilliant
When your opponent reads the scouting report 😂
Originally they had a different ending planned were Raylan flipped table but then Timothy Olyphant figured it out the tablecloth move messing around with a banana in the kitchen.
I always wanted to see more of Nix, along with a dozen other killers that Raylan either outgunned or outsmarted throughout the show.
One of the best shows ever
Gotta admire how Raylan showed like absolutely no fear. Just chilling, the cold yet determined look in his eyes when the lady was counting down!
You know, for a long time I wondered about this scene. I always thought with Raylan's upbringing, and Arlo *being* Arlo, I wondered if Arlo ever taught Raylan that "game", and that's how he knew how to get out of it. It's never explicitly said, but I did wonder.
That guy had soulless eyes
Raylan, a true badass.
Never bring an ice pick to a gun fight. 😉
Raylan looked unsure how to deal with this situation, until Nix told Winona to count down. Then his whole demeanor changed. You could see him thinking, "This is my kind of game now, and I know his play." Raylan's near-smile at 2:29 shows he knows how to win.

I'm pretty sure he was soft smirking because Raylan enjoys games and even in this situation he was wondering how the rules of engagement would go, because you can see the change as soon as the rules are explained. My favorite scene from the entire series. If you watch the entire episode, they set this up. Nix pulls this trick on someone else, who gets stuck. I appreciate that every wannabe tough guy who goes against Raylan has some kind of gimmick that gets them in the end. The knife guy falls in a hole, this clown, and the dude who always aims for the head only grazes Raylan. Meanwhile, the trained U.S. Marshall prevails.
@obiwankenobi9439

I believe Boone only grazed Raylan because he was shot right before pulling his own trigger. Quarter of a second later and Raylan wouldve been a busted cantaloupe. The whole season foreshadows that Raylan met his match. Last fight was equal level. Just got lucky.

I always interpreted that as Nix was zoned in and had done this so much that the muscle memory took over when Winona got to 2. He probably didn't even realize what Raylan did.
You do kinda need the context that this is what he’s known for, for it to be as cool. I’m sure people still enjoyed it who didn’t know. But the whole suspense of the scene, and therefore the payoff to the suspense, is that the viewer is supposed to be aware that he will stab Raylans hand with the ice pick as Raylan goes for the gun.
