    The biggest difference between Raylan and Clement is that most of Clement's victims were unarmed and/or didn't see Clement coming. All of Raylan's shootings involved people who were armed, and in a lot of cases, drew first. This was the first time I got the impression Clement understood that if he and Raylan squared off, Clement would be leaving feet first.

    Bro figured out immediately that Raylan could use his prints on the weapon to catch him but didn’t immediately realize that Raylan was actually setting him up for death. If he accepts the challenge and loses then Raylan can say it doesn’t matter he drew first, justifying the shooting. If he loses it then there are ballistic records to match the bullets in Raylan to the bullets in that gun. Nobody goes to a location with the intention of a gun fight and supplies the OTHER GUY with a gun too unless said individual is extremely confident in their own skills. Raylan was basically offering this guy suicide by cop.

  • @jesse9053
    @jesse905310 ай бұрын

    This was by far the best sequence of the new show. This is a Raylan who is older and smarter. He’s come a long way since that rooftop in Miami and he owes that experience to Boyd Crowder. The younger and angrier man in him would have called Clement out a long time ago and fucked up this whole case. It was only until dealing with someone who was just as smart as he was that he learned the tact and patience he needed to pull off something like this. Raylan didn’t care if he killed clement or not he is using Clement’s impulsive and emotional nature against him. That’s something that he never would have thought to do before Boyd. I’m not suggesting that clement and Boyd are alike they are not. But what I’m saying is he learned that the law does have its limits and that his way is predictable and bullish at times. And that the way to be good at that job is to meet somewhere in the middle. This was the first time in the entire new show it became clear he’d really learned something from his time in Harlan. The last episode of justified had Raylan and Boyd in a very similar situation to his encounter with Tommy bucks but he chose to do things by the book answering the question he asked in the very first episode “if he didn’t have a gun would I have killed him anyway” it’s clear here that he has grown and understands himself a lot more now

    @@jesse9053 jesse, do you disagree that this scene is great as a clip and then you watch it in the episode and it is completely, like 100% completely wasted?.... I hated the way they used the Justified Raylan character for an audience but the biggest problem was the writing was trash. So many things went nowhere or just washed out into blah. The only way this story makes any sense is if the Caroline character is the main protagonist (which is what I think in many ways they were going for) and if that's the case, cool but call it Caroline City Primeval or whatever and actually do that show. This was just blah with a few brief moments and it's a shame because many of the actors have talent and even did will but they just had nothing that made sense.

    INT. RADISSON HOTEL DINING ROOM - DAY Raylan Givens walks in, boots echoing on the floor. He scans the room, then spots Clement Mansell sitting alone at a table. Raylan approaches and sits down across from him. He places a paper bag on the table, leaving it sealed. RAYLAN: You ever have one of those days, Clement, where a bag can change your whole life? CLEMENT: (Chuckles) Most of my days are like that. It's just usually a bag full of money. RAYLAN: Ah, but money can't buy you time, especially the kind behind bars. CLEMENT: (Dryly) Well, I'm a time optimist. What's in the bag? RAYLAN: Opportunity. A crossroads, if you will. Raylan taps the paper bag lightly, a meaningful look in his eyes. CLEMENT: And why would I be interested in a crossroads? RAYLAN: Because one road leads to a dead end. Literally. CLEMENT: (Chuckles, but clearly tense) Your metaphors are as loaded as that bag, I presume. RAYLAN: Maybe. But what's loaded can be unloaded. Question is, are you feeling lucky? CLEMENT: I don't rely on luck, Raylan. What are you proposing? RAYLAN: I'm not proposing you snitch or turn a new leaf. I'm just giving you a chance to shift the narrative. CLEMENT: (Smiles) Narratives are fickle, Marshal. What makes you think I'd play a role in yours? RAYLAN: Because this isn't just my narrative, Clement. It's yours too. And sometimes the ending writes itself whether you like it or not. Clement glares at Raylan, then down at the bag. CLEMENT: (Slowly, choosing words) So, I take it you're offering me a... rewrite? RAYLAN: (Looks directly into Clement's eyes) I'm offering you a choice. Do nothing, and that bag becomes the final chapter for both of us. Take control, and who knows? You might get a sequel. CLEMENT: (Stares back, gauging Raylan) A sequel, huh? And how do I know this isn't some sort of trap? RAYLAN: You don't. But then again, where's the thrill in a sure thing? Clement sizes up Raylan once more. He takes a deep breath and then nods subtly, acknowledging the gravity of the decision before him. CLEMENT: Alright, Marshal. I'll consider your offer. But remember, every story has its twists. RAYLAN: I'm counting on it. But be warned: the clock's ticking, and time waits for no man. Raylan stands up, grabs the paper bag, and walks away, leaving Clement alone to ponder the roads that lie ahead.

Wynona (Natalie Zea) is still smokin’, unlike that very unattractive prosecutor that Raylan was banging. And of course when Boyd broke out of prison. That’s the actual Justified story line that we all wanted to see.

The only thing he excels at is killing, that's why when Raylan challenges him to a duel in this scene, he realizes he's facing someone authentic who follows through on what he says. That's why he doesn't accept it, because he knows deep down he's no match for Raylan.

The stuff that he was getting away with in the original series already brought negative attention when he was serving in Kentucky, so I can't imagine the kind of ramifications it would have in today's woke environment. Besides, it's the intense interactions between Raylan and the villains that always held my attention, not necessarily the shootings.

    @@ShadyMcGrady209 oh I’m in complete agreement with you. It’s definitely a woke version. I’m surprised Olyphant did it in the first place. Most of the response on the fan pages is negative. Most of us that were big fans of the original have stopped watching. I honestly can’t wait for it to be over, but I watched it every week. If it was done the way it was written, without Raylan, I probably wouldn’t have minded it because of the development of Clement

    This new show really lacks the charm of the original. I know they wanted to make Raylan a more "mature" character, but this scene is like finally the old Raylan is back. Confidently challenging Clement to a shooting match, that's the Raylan Givens we know and love. Too bad it took 7 episodes for him to return.

    Oh, well. A very predictable outcome…real original putting Mansell in a box… he can’t really escape, can he? When I saw the show cut to ‘Kentucky’… things became a lot more interesting. Just a ‘low-down dirty shame’ that it took the last show to give us everything we were looking for. Better late than never, I guess.

    There are moments that feel like Justified and then seconds later it turns bad. This starts with Clement saying he says to Sandy to stop with the weed. Raylan responds with "some people you can't tell them anything" meaning they won't listen but also you can't trust people with something and then he says "as long as they don't tell on you" This changes from being a coment about the weed and in reality it's refering to Sandy snitching on Clement and Raylan uses it as an implication that Sandy turned on Clement. This felt like an Elmore moment. It was good. But then Clement goes "What's in your bag? Your lunch?" which i think sounds stupid. And then Clement says he is leaving town that night. Raylan's response? I'll see you later then. Not very witty...

    Pretty disappointing "series", in my opinion. This didn't need to be a Justified series. Not much "Raylan" in it. Detroit makes no sense for the setting (I know this comes from a book, but I don't think it worked as a series. If you can call 8 episodes a series.) I'm not asking for shootouts every episode, but better dialog and character development would have been nice. I can name almost every character from the original series. I think I can name three from this one. Yes, less episodes, but the same characters were in every episode and I still can't name them. Mansell was almost like Boone (HATED that character!). A caricature of a bad guy. From the moment you see him, you know he has to die. Not so with the Original series. He was grating every time he opened his mouth. Anyway, I know no one asked, but that's my 2 cents on the series.

Now, if you enjoy it, more power to you… It’s just not justified for those of us who watched justified . It doesn’t have the justified writing or characters, and it’s saturated with politically correct messaging and trending themes or narratives… It’s all the wrong focus. It’s what would happen if you took justified and made it for a modern day audience. The first episode was when I stopped watching because by the first episode you can tell… This isn’t justified.
