Well you certainly have it running like a Swiss watch. I may be mistaken but I believe the '71 R3 went to more conventional mufflers. The ray guns are beautiful just the same. Is your motor stock?

Cheers Eric 👍 Yes the engine is still pretty much stock 750 except for an older style Boyer mk3 ignition , I much prefer the earlier ray guns to the later 71 exhausts in both their looks & their sound ..kzread.info/dash/bejne/mpudla2ik668mNI.html .. I've got another 71 R3 export chrome tank model here that I'm rebuilding and planning on fitting a pair of Rocket Gold Star silencers just to add a little spice into the music ,

@@beazas You're a lucky man beazas and have impecable taste in classic British iron. I'm rebuilding my '72 T150V at present...just recently finished the motor. It's a US model. The engine is on my home made test rig I welded up from some 1 inch square tubing. I purchased a Tri-spark ignition and 12 volt coils. Also mounted on the stand is the oil tank, cooler, coils, control box & battery and finally a bracket for the 3/1 exhaust. The exhaust is a rare item I bought in 1977 from the now defunct Big D Cycles in Dallas, TX. I may have to purchase a stock exhaust to pass the stringent MOT here in Switzerland. If I was still in the US I wouldn't have to worry about it. Tomorrow I'll see if it runs. I'll be happy if I can get it to tick over like yours.

I always had dream of buying this beast .... Now I'm planning to modify my interceptor with this exhaust is it possible to get a similar exhaust note ?

Hmmm !! .. I don't really know ? .. This is a 3 cylinder engine & your Interceptor is a twin cylinder , But it'd certainly sound a lot different to the original silencers you have fitted now that's for sure , One of the first things to check is the size of your exhaust pipe down at the connection with the silencer , These Raygun silencers are made to connect to a 1 1/4" or (31.75mm) exhaust pipe , I've no idea what diameter the pipes are on an Interceptor , Here's a better video for sound & view (skip forward to 1:05 sec) of how the pipes look fitted on a BSA Rocket 3 kzread.info/dash/bejne/mpudla2ik668mNI.html

Forgot to ask you. What kind of oil pressure is indicated at idle, and what is your peak pressure at higher rpms? Cheers.

Both of my old Rockets hit 90 cold start and run around 10 to 15 psi at hot idle , They just keep ahead of the "supposed doomsday minimum" of 10psi per thousand rev's , so 70 to 80psi @ 6 or 7rpm is usual and to date i haven't done any crank rebuilds on these 2 engines either , They're just how I purchased them , By rights your hot running pressures would be a lot higher in your freshly rebuilt 72 T150V, You'll have to post up some videos when you've finished rebuilding the bike .

@@beazas Thanks beazas, I will indeed. Just got it started last Wednesday after much frustration. Turns out the problem is missing choke slides in the Amals. Those are on order, along with cables, lever, splitter and bracket. All lost somewhere over time. I haven't decided yet whether to mount the choke lever at the gantry or on the bars. It's possibly the most elegant piece the English ever designed and seems a shame to hide it under the tank. My oil pressure appears to be spot on using your kindly offered information. I think it may have hit 80 psi, thereabouts, once warmed up a bit. I'm using Liqui Moly 10-40₩ semi syn. Anyhow she revs most beautifully and I had forgotten the glorious sound the Big D 3 into 1 pipe makes. What a motor! Well worth all the effort. Once the chokes are fitted I'll do a proper tune up. If I can get it to quietly tick over like yours at maybe 600 rpm I'll be in Trident heaven. Forgot to mention; I compensated for the missing choke slides by taping over the carb mouths 3/4 's of the intake with gaffer tape. It then fired up more or less right away. Even when not too cold outside these triples like choke to start properly. I'll try to post something soon mate and you'll be the first to be notified.
