Ray Jessel - Whatever Happened To Melody

Ray Jessel at Monday Night OpenMic Cabaret with Tim Moore at Hennessey's La Jolla on Monday, June 30, 2014. Ray joined OMC to give up 3 of his popular songs. I recorded this iconic song, written with his wife, Cynthia Thompson, a song that is characterized by Michael Feinstein as quite possibly the most beautiful song ever written. Many thanks to Hennessey's La Jolla for hosting the "spectacularmundo" Ray Jessel and my OpenMic Cabaret!!
Don't let it slip your notice that Ray performed on AMERICA'S GOT TALENT on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 and gave up a rendition of his famous "Penis Song" (actually titled, What She's Got) to rousing applause from the audience and judges! Look that one up and enjoy!

I'm a songwriter, and a song hasn't made me cry in decades. I just broke down here. That was so pretty and sad, I have no words. And I just read that he passed away! Oh my goodness, it's a sad day. GOD BLESS YOU RAY! You are a SONGWRITER!!!

Love his lyrics: he sings about songs in 3/4 time... and the song itself is in 3/4 time. He's awesome.

You should've popped up earlier Ray as you are very an originally talented song writer, pianist & entertainer as well. I just feel the wisdom & truth of experience of life you were trying to deliver thru your songs. Rest In Peace Grandpa.

Ray Jessel has made me buy a whole sheet book from Michael Fensteins songs, just because of this particulary!! Thats how much i like that song! And when Jessel sings it i feel it more romantic and nostalgic than the version of Fenstein.

whatever happened to melody sweet, old-fashioned melody roses and ribbons and romance and rhyme songs about two hearts in three-quarter time once, there were movies with stars who were stars where, oh where can they be? and why aren't there heroes like yesterday's heroes? and whatever happened to melody Gene Tunney, Joe Louis ah, those were fighters not like the pipsqueaks they palm off today Hemingway, Steinbeck now, those were writers, with style and with substance and something to say Garbo and Gable and Franklin D. Roosevelt I could go on and on Babe Ruth and Bogey and Gershwin and Hoagy ah, what's the use? they're gone all gone and whatever happened to melody who stole all the poetry posies and picnics and walks in the wood Hammocks and Hayrides have they gone for good? whatever happened to just holding hands 'neath the old apple tree gone is the magic and speaking of magic... whatever happened -- 1. -- to you and me 2. -- to melody
