Raw vs Nitro "Reliving The War": Episode 183 - April 26th 1999

Спорт

Reliving The War takes an in-depth look at the WWF vs WCW Monday Night War that took place from the mid 90s to the early 2000s. Raw and Nitro aired at the same time on Monday Nights, and fans had to choose which show they would watch; this resulted in both WCW and WWF putting out some of their best shows possible as pro wrestling became an extremely popular form of mainstream entertainment.
It's the night after WWF Backlash 99 and the McMahon family is in trouble. The Undertaker has Stephanie McMahon, and he wants to make a deal with Vince McMahon. When this deal falls through The Undertaker plans an Unholy Wedding that ends Raw is War this week, but help comes from an unlikely hero. Billy Gunn tries to do what X-Pac couldn't when he faces Triple H one-on-one, and The Rock has some harsh words for Corporation leader Shane McMahon.
On Nitro this week Charles Robinson is in control while Ric Flair spends some time in a psych ward. DDP defends his World Heavyweight Championship against Sting, but this isn't the only big championship match that happens on Nitro. We also hear from Hulk Hogan before his surgery, and inside the ring we've also got Meng vs Booker T and Randy Savage vs Scott Steiner.

Absolutely awesome match. If WCW had kept the belt on Sting and given him a good run at this point I think it would have given the company a big shot in the arm. The fans always loved the Stinger but his late 97 - early 98 title run was a mess and when he won the beltagain later in 1999 it was as a heel... which didn't work as the fans still cheered for him anyway.

despite the difference in ratings both shows are every week absolutely packed! One of the things I remember more vividly from the attitude era is how huge wrestling was. It was almost as if there weren't casual wrestling fans. If you were a wrestling fan you were tuning in every single week

I can't even begin to explain how damn underrated "Ravishing Rick Rude" was. He was the total package and should've been WWF champion back in the day 🏆. The phrase "Often imitated but never duplicated" is so true when it comes to Rick Rude. Val Venis tried the gimmick with the porn star element attached to it in the Attitude Era but it wasn't the same. There will only be one Rick Rude. RIP to the "Ravishing One" 😢🕊️🌹🙏🏼.

Man, the decline of WCW is just so sad to see. Russo didn't kill the company, but he sped its demise. We still have the arrival of Russo to come as well as the disaster for WCW that was 2000 in general. I got sad when it was mentioned the Godfather will face Owen Hart at the next PPV.

I was at Nitro this night with like 3 or 4 friends. The title changes were good matches and a big surprise. More than anything else though I remember all the standing around the live audience did during the Flair segments. The segments would be thrown to AND followed by commentary which you can’t hear when you’re there live. They would happen following or before commercial breaks. Some were back from commercial to commentary, throw to Flair segment, back to commentary to another commercial break. There were times we stood there for 15 minutes without anything happening in the arena.
