    Solemn Vow is such fun. In two-player, I love the Carolyn + Daniela (or Yorick) deck where you have Pete (2) and Solemn Vows in Daniela, and Field Agents in Caroyln. It's a lot of free clues.

    Miss Doyle is a lot of fun in Calvin. Nothing like invesigating with 10 book on the first scenario!

    Don't forget as-printed, the .35 Winchester's ammo is just there for lols. It doesn't say you spend ammo to attack. :P (I know this has been appropriately errata-ed and is merely a typo.)

    Pendant of the Queen is my go to to deal with Nahab. We usually Play let God in Flamer Mark and Tony. We do not regret it, but its more for the miniquest and greed fun aspect we play it. Heroic Rescue is playable in Zoey and Daniela, and can be a highlight. Not sure if the double works, as there is only one card of Esseence About Empty Vessel is amazing in Flamer Mark Delilah is just so much better since Dirty Fighting came Short Supply also from Edge broke Scavenging

    Love these videos. Great distraction while I'm working!! I think visually, these work a little better for me than the 1-5 rankings. I like to be able to see everything in comparison to each other. Definitely harder with half scores and viewer scores, but whenever you get around to reranking Hemlock Vale (or whatever the next expansion is), I'd love some sort of visual tier list

    I agree completely with the Practice Makes Perfect comment, I start to go down that rabbit hole each time I have 4+ Practiced Skills in my deck and I agree, taking up 1/3 of your deck for a single card is rarely worth it, plus you have to make sure those skills are useful during any situation since you don't know what you'll hit off the top 9...

    I've found fortuitous discovery to be borderline broken with patrice and (as you mentioned) quite good with anyone who can discard the first copy. It is incredibly easy between short supply, cornered, and Patrice's ability to never have to play the first or second fortuitous discovery, and then with a newspaper or promise of power or a cornered activation, or anything that enhances your intellect it pretty quickly becomes pay 3 resources get 3 clues, sometimes 4 clues with upgraded newspaper, and you can loop it with scrounge for supplies and resourceful (which you cannot do with winging it because it shuffles back into your deck) and just only play the really strong version of the card over and over. It's basically 3 cards you can put into your deck that cost 0 XP and give her the ability to easily provide 3-6 extra clues per scenario for 3-6 resources which, idk, has been very good every time I've played it because the "downside" of drawing the first copy of fortuitous discovery and having it be a dead draw does not exist in her version of deck building. It's upside is crazy high in decks that play cornered or that have access to both it and forced learning (like Minh) because as long as you can skip having to play the first copy, it's basically a cheaper pilfer that is much more likely to succeed on its own.

    Stargazing is my favorite card in the game. Is it good? Well, no. Your review was spot on, though I would have given it a "fine". But dang, that card is so fun. And the fewer the number of players, the more effective it is. Solo? It really is a Ward of Protection (if you draw it...). Four players? Well, it'll fire off a lot more but then it is not nearly as effective, either.

  • @camipco

    @camipco

    The reason it's worse than Ward of Protection as encounter deck mitigation is that you can hold Ward of Protection for the worst card in the encounter deck. While Star Gazing replaces a random card in the encounter deck (assuming even that you draw it). I like it too though. It's neat. And improved of course by other encounter deck manipulation.

    Scavenging (2) is at least great, if not busted. You get to save on play actions and can commit cards to play them with Scavenging. Investigate with a Schoff committed. Evade something with your bandages, then investigate them back. Old key ring (3) can be replayed the turn it runs out of keys lol. Just too good

    @PlayingBoardGames the timing on commits has always been funky to me. But keyring says "when you succeed" and scavenging is "after you succeed by 2" which is both the same timing window I think, so you could choose keyring first then scavenging.

  • @PlayingBoardGames

    @@rowdygiles3833 You are right that the order goes "when, if, after", but Old Keyring (EDIT) happens in Step 7 while Scavenging happens in Step 6. I edited this because my initial message was wrong. This is because you apply the skill test results during Step 7, which is when the Keyring sees its removal of the use. This doesn't mean your point is wrong about the strength of Scavenging 2 generally, but I think it still makes it more comparable to Scavenging 0 with the tempo you gain vs lose in the upgrade compared to other upgrades.

    @PlayingBoardGames these are fair points. I guess I just hate play actions haha. I've been enjoying Unearth the Ancients (2) recently, and play a lot of Ever Vilgilant. So maybe I put too much stock into skipping play actions

  • @PlayingBoardGames

    @PlayingBoardGames

    @@rowdygiles3833 I don't think that's a bad line of logic at all. Too many play actions is bad and avoiding as many as possible is the way, imo. A lot of Scavenging 2 value changes depending on how you are using it, which can change where it lands on the rating scale for sure.

    It feels like Prophetic is superior to trapezohedron in almost every way. Cheaper in exp, doesn't take any slots, doesn't require tests, flexible enough to not only cover the costs but also boosts your skill value.

    @@OdiumShard I upgrade to Overpower 2 I think Overpower is that good. Overpower removes the downside of Daring at the cost of 1 less wild pip, it's definitely not as way better as you say here. And before you mention the evading mode, I'm not looking at using skills to evade unless I'm a Rogue and then I'm grabbing Manual Dexterity.

    Most enemies for which you want to up your skill value have retaliate already, and sure, I don’t think I’ve ever used it to evade either, but the option’s there. I don’t tend to upgrade my skills as a whole either, I prefer assets/events. I’d run this over overpower/manual dex every time, that’s for sure

  • @PlayingBoardGames

    @PlayingBoardGames

    @@OdiumShard I don't think the one icon is worth the downside especially because most of my builds are built around using Overpowers as card replacement rather than requiring the icons. As such, the downside is just not needed in comparison. When I do run Daring, it's there to boost me until I get my build to where it needs to be, which is why it gets cut but Overpower doesn't. I see it as if I need Daring in the final scenarios to help me boost my attacks, why does my deck suck at doing what it needs to be doing?
