Hemlock Vale was insane for boosting fighter Silas. Long Shot and Strong Armed add what he was otherwise missing, extra damage from skill cards, and Strong Armed does it while also providing protection from the tentacle for your "commit entire hand" attacks at a cheaper XP cost than Eucatastrophe (but without the elder sign bonus). Also, Drawing Thin for economy. Because +4 difficulty doesn't matter on a harpoon attack when you are committing your entire hand of skills, and the money you make will pay for replaying your harpoon after you return it to your hand, allowing you to get multiple attacks with all those skills per turn.

I agree, this cycle made the harpoon cycling even more ridiculous than it already was. But even without cheesing it like this, the new skills and Brute force are enough damage to just "cycle" your deck without looping the harpoon.

These deckbuilding-videos are one of the best, because I really get a good clue of what you are doing and especially why! 😊

PlayingBoardGames could become a [Silas Only] channel and I wouldn’t miss an episode.

Played Hatchet Silas through Hemlock Vale and it was chef’s kiss. Silas attacking at base 8 with it made it a perfect target for quick thinking commits.

Why is brute force good in general? Not in Silas, in general? If you have 4 fist, like Yorick, or Tommy. You fight for 7, but you need to succeed by 2. If you use a simple weapon with +1, like machete, or fire extinguisher, you get to 5 fist, but you don't need to succeed by two.

You don’t play it to boost ur skill, u play it for a 3 damage attack. That’s very good

Love this series! I was thinking of going with Silas on my blind run of Forgotten Age (4 player)… What’s your view on Dark Horse in him?

@@jamesarmstrong7297 He can use it very well because he doesn't need resources as much because you can heavy on skills. However, be very aware of your weakness because at the wrong time it can just annihilate you.

First time Silas player running through hemlock for the second time. Kinda scared to not run Big Man on Campus for the horror soak... I guess once you have hunting jackets you're OK?

@@Trizface If you're worried, run Pete Sylvestre. It's not a wrong choice, especially if you want that additional layer of protection on your first Silas experience.

@@PlayingBoardGames Cheers. We use a house rule of not costing exp to swap cards so I think I'll go with the big man for now and swap him out if it feels OK. Never played a skill heavy goon before but it seems fun! Thanks for all you do for the arkham community. Your guides and content in general is an absolute staple for me.

@@Trizface I think it's doable if you have Pete in play, but otherwise it's not really that consistent. I've seen it do good work, but it isn't as reliable as other options. So you can run it, but I'd be aware it has some additional baggage required to really sing.

That Rotting Remains scale is interesting and can probably something that can be discussed more in-depth for this series. Like in terms of defensive stats, failing foot tests usually mean physical damage and failing willpower tests are mentai damage. How many cards to you invest in defending against these tests? For someone like Silas, who leverages skills and has a slightly lower than average brain stat, we probably just need some teddy bears and go hard on wildcard skills. But how about 1 brain rogues? Like at what point do we try and go to win the test vs giving up and eating damage to the face. If its the latter, how much soak do we need to invest in? I've definitely ran into the problem a few times where I couldn't decide if I should go for a Guts or go for a soak.
