Morrigan, Lililth and Roll look out of place because they have stupid ugly-ass mismatched black outlines. Literally no other MvC2 characters have those mid-gameplay; their outlines are sparse, appropriately colored and used to illustrate rounding and for shading, as all outlines in a final drawing should be.

For me the voice lines sell the super almost as much as the visuals, some of them are just timeless. Cyclops' "BEHOLD" and Iron Man's "Here's my Sunday Best!" among so many others that I still hear perfectly in my head when I think about them

I was 10 at Knotts Berry Farm school trip when I discovered this game. I was already a HUGE fan of MVC1 so when I found out about this game I spent the whole day at the arcade playing against older teens lol

One cool thing about Gambits Royal Flush super is that the staff he throws in the air has a hitbox that knocks opponents down into the card barrage.

Mega Man's basically the capcom "insert your childhood here" character so it makes sense for him and his sister to get moves that are old references since he's already a jumble of Kamen Rider references plus Astro Boy plus Casshern with a dash of Ninja Captor.

@@CarbonRollerCaco Rock/Mega himself is in the role of Casshern story-wise (later on, X fills it better since Sigma is basically Buraiking Boss). Roll is Luna (the early story version without her pistol). Dr. Light is Dr. Kotaro Azuma (Dr. Wily and Dr. Cain take the architect of humanity's doom bit since Dr.Wily made the Zero Virus and Dr. Cain ignored Dr.Light's warning about logic circuit testing and decided to mass-produce X via the Reploids). Rush very much so counts as friender given the forms he can change into here and in the main games (Jet, Sub, Bike, Armor, Jetpack, Car and Drill tank).

Supers in this game suffer from lacking impact; a lot of them sometimes even end with no sound effects. In practice they fit the games snappy pace; but in isolation a lot of them are pretty underwhelming.

Jill was basically Black Widow before Black Widow At least she was an absolute beast if you know how to use her install super

I would play this game almost every weekend in the early 2000s when this game came out in arcades. Because the internet wasn’t readily available (and I was 7-8 years old), I never knew about Hayato’s Black Hayato special until YEARS after it came out.

The "casual wear" was Hayato's alt costume in Star Gladiator, FYI. Ironically the rest of the game title is Episode 1: Final Crusade....then they made a sequel. 😅🤪

To hear that a MvC2 remaster is at least being talked about makes me get all in my feels. To relive the 90s and 00s is a dream come true.

In Hayato's demon super he turns into Black Hayato, an evil version of himself that exist because Bilstein, the big bad of the Star Glatiator and Plasma Sword games, implanted a genotype microchip in him during the final battle of the first game that eventually took over Haytao and he became Black Hayato, there is still a bit of himself in there though fighting against the microchip so his super is him losing control for a brief time. in the first game Star Gladiator he was just a palate swap of Hayato but in the sequel Plasma Sword he got his own story. I actually am a big fan of the Star Gladiator/Plasma Sword series and would like to see Capcom remake it..but I have even LESS hope for that than I do a new Rival Schools or Darkstalkers game.

@@r9ue not even the aesthetic just being God awful, the cutscenes are animated like shit, cinematic supers look like shit, the voice acting and dialogue is garbage, the only thing that looks good is the movesets of the characters, excluding cinematic supers of course

It is only seeing them all individually like this, you can fully appreciate the disparity between sprite quality in this game. Especially matching them all up to Cable.

Tron's first super, is her attack, with the gun, and then all 40 of her Bots hitting you. Play the Mis-Adventures of Tron Bonne to learn everyone's name. If you can afford the disc...

Ruby heart shovering you in a barrel and playing Pop up Pirate on her opponant with real swords is a 10/10 for me. (I know its a reference to the kids game on the fact that: she only has a 50% chance to hit every time she throws a sword just like in the game it was a random chance to "pop the pirate" every time you put in the swords.)

If I remember correctly, megaman's rush drill has invincibility. You can use it to tank opponent's supers specially the beam ones. Captain America's hyper charging star also has this property. Ryu's shinku hadouken has the fastest start up in terms of beam supers, you can use it to intercept other beam supers.

The money from Raid sponsorship is actually quite large. I have seen smaller KZreadrs sponsored by them being able to buy sports cars. Ridge Wallet is also another sponsorship who are very generous with their money.

Marrow is from the X-men comics. She was a Morlock (Mutants who live underground, in the sewers of NY, because their mutations make them look too “unattractive” to live on the surface, and pass as humans) who survived the infamous Mutant Massacre, where Mr. Sinister hired a bunch of bad mutants, sent them into the Morlock camp, and had them slaughter the Morlocks. Side note: Marrow was actually rescued by Gambit who consequently, was hired by Mr. Sinister and lead the bad mutants to the Morlock camp (Don’t worry, Gambit was tricked; He had no clue that the plan was to assault the Morlocks).

I want Max to rate all the supers in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Allstars. That would be pretty dope.

Fun Fact about Ruby Heart: Her VA also voices Chun-Li in 3rd Strike.

These are my most favorite sprites from Capcom up to this day. Well, in terms of art style anyway. The Street Fighter III games are still my most favorite in terms of animation. Hell, much of Capcom's sprite work around the early 2000's has aged like wine.

I would love for Capcom to do a re-release of MvC2, not only with rollback netcode but also new characters. That would be so sick.

@@RoboP I wouldn't say 0 chance. There's characters that appeared in older MvC games that didn't show up in MvC2, like Shadow Lady, Anita or Cyber Akuma. If we can have Boneclaw Wolverine, we could have Cyber-Akuma. Adding new characters to old games isn't an uncalled idea, they did that with SFA3 Max.

Jeez why does blackhart have so many supers? Today hes so obscure but back then he must have actually been something.

Very fond memories of playing MVC2 in the arcades on our lunch break. Usually went with Cyclops, Spidey and Iron-Man.

I like using Hayato in this game even if people think he sucks. Love those sounds when he swings his sword

As a kid I used to think he was wielding a lightsaber and I would always use him because of it

I really wish Capcom would bring back this game's Sonson for a new game. I thought she was kind of cute.

@@marplatense31 The original Sonson wouldn't flag anything due to that. But, with the Oozaru form, MvC SonSon would probably more likely to catch Toei's [legal] attention.

@@pious83 Yeah, I don't know about that. If fighting game devs can get away with Jojo references in their games without any lawsuits, I don't see why Capcom would get in trouble for this.

@@marplatense31 There is a difference between references and a more direct analogue. Sun Wukong didn't change into a Great Ape... It is quite telling that Capcom haven't re-released the original SonSon game either. I think they would sooner err on the side of caution and not take the risk.

I love the slowdown on Shuma, exiting the portal, when KO-ing with Chaos Dimension. 🤘

All these years and I never knew Guile had an opening gambit type air only super.

Rate the Fatalies in SamShoVSpecial. Won't take too long and many are great for a sprite game.

Max you did not rate Silver Samurai's electric storm super and Sentinel's Overdrive And all hail Lord Anakaris for getting a 10!!!

I used to play so much Jill and Megaman in this game

We needed "Norimaro" in this game, to just give it that little extra "Oomph".

I was going down the comments to see if anyone else remembers this

I remember seeing Hyper Megaman as a kid, and I thought that this was the pinnacle of fighting games.

Marrow is from the X-Men. She's a mutant with the ability to pull her bones out of her body (which regenerates afterwards) as weapons and she's the leader of the Murlocks (?) which is pretty much a group of outcast mutants that live underground in the sewers.

3:53 I’m not gonna lie. I would give this a ten out of ten purely because of how committed it is to being shitty. It’s literally just a gadoken but with all the flashy background effects.

When I first saw Jin Saotome's animations in MVC, I immediately thought of Kakugo no Susume / Apocalypse Zero.

@@azure8935 Jin Saotome and Bakugo have very different personalities. Jin follows bushido, influenced by his grandfather to be a traditional Japanese patriot. Although he is hot-blooded and could lose his cool, he remains polite. According to his designer, he is based primarily on Kakugo Hagakure from Kakugo no Susume / Apocalypse Zero, who wears a similar costume but colored black and is masked.

I didn't know you can nuke Nemesis at the end. Such a cool Easter egg!

I really love this MVC series that Max makes right now. I am not really a huge fighting game fan especially a versus game it's basically learning a fighting game but 10x harder but ngl this vids make me wanna play this mvc games on my psp especially marvel super heroes, xmen children of atom and mvc clash of super heroes. I don't really know if I can run this games on my psp but mvc clash of super heroes is definitely running well on it but yeah thanks dood! This videos made me wanna play this games and let's see for how will it turns out cheers!

the hayato "demon" is evil/b. hayato doing the finishing hit. I think its implied both of them are hacking at you from both sides then b.hayato does the finishing hit. Its a reference to the plasma sword sequel.

Hayato´s special were his body chances for a moment is a reference to star gladiator 2, plasma sword:revenge of blistein, in that story Hayato was at some point grab by blistein (the villain) at get made a chip a turns the bounty hunter into a cruel fighter only searching to get somewhere, this less a transformation and more a swicth persona.

i do wonder if he'll ever do a rate the super on tatsunoko vs capcom with all the crazy stuff they do in it

Black Hayato deserved a 10, but i'll respect a 9.

When you play Zangief, If you continuously spin your joystick while doing the pile-driver, he actually spins faster and do more damage. When you do it during his super, the pile-driver turns him red.

Hayato his demon is a reference to Black Hayato from Star Gladiator, when he was turned evil by bilstein.

I always hated that Spider-Man's Ultimate Web Throw and Felicia's Help Me supers couldn't grab more than one person. I was also annoyed that Combining Tron and Servbot's Lunch Time Rush Supers always results in the enemy being popped out of the attacks long enough to disrupt the combo so you couldn't get all 80 hits.

I remember my first experience with this game when I was like 8 and playing it in an arcade. I was playing servbot and this guy came up and kicked my ass in the game. I asked if he could tell me how to do the supers and he just said no 🤣

Damn... Dan's supertaunt and Akuma's Demon in this game were so weak looking...

You missed the full powdered Zangief. The same way u mashed the buttons with Amingo to do the extended version, there is another version of Zangief’s special where you continuously rotate the d pad or the joystick in a 360 motion to turn Zangief Red as he’s doing the final spinning sit down powerbomb. It does more damage and shows a physical difference in the visuals.

glad to see you revisiting old games for this series, id love to see one for third strike someday

@@SuperPeterok I am 21. I grew up very unfortunate, and was literally stuck playing the wii until I was 18. My dad bought himself a ps3, and he got Mvc3 at the pawn shop. That's how I was introduced to the series and the characters in it.

If MvC2 had the announcer yell the name of each super and displayed it on the screen when it finishes, that would have been amazing. Man, that was hype back in the day. Still love MvC2 would buy again!
