    This is a blast from the past for one reason: That Time My Dad Got Obsessed With A Video Game We had Ratatouille on the Wii. It was ostensibly my sister's game, but she got bored/frustrated with it about halfway in. And it would have gathered dust if my dad hadn't picked it up. For context, my dad is not a gamer, really. He's played them on and off in the past according to my mother, but he doesn't show much interest. So for him to pick up the game was completely out of the blue. I would come downstairs in the morning, at like 8am, and I'd see him playing Ratatouille for the Nintendo Wii. He played through the game reasonably quickly, but his attention was now on all the collectables. Over the course of weeks, we as a family watched him scour every level. The open levels, the weird food dream worlds, the sewer levels. Slowly, the total climbed higher until there were a tiny few left, and even they dwindled. Eventually there was one left, and he didn't know what level it was in. His playing was near obsessive, all his free time was spent on the game. Eventually the last gold thingie was found, tucked in a side path of a sewer raft level thing. And that was it. He closed the game and never went back to it. He's never done it with another game. We have the switch now and he doesn't show any interest. Then again, he didn't before then. It's just a very odd chapter of my family's history.

    As someone currently going through culinary school, I’ll pass on some advice from my instructor: Cooking is fucking easy, and anyone can make good food. Great food comes from clean workstations and someone that puts effort, passion, and a bit of fire into everything they make. Also: In a professional kitchen, between meeting timelines, cleaning down, and making sure everything’s up to standard, there’s absolutely no time to relax. At the end of the day, I don’t even have the energy to cook for myself. I end up eating Kraft Dinner or getting a burger on my way back home.

    Linguine can cook, but never takes enough time to learn. During the events of the movie there was not enough time. Learning to pilot a Linguine is easier than Linguine learning to cook.

  • @ma.2089

    @ma.2089

    Well even then, Linguine’s calling wasn’t exactly cooking. He ran the restaurant really well, he just wasn’t good at cooking in it (tho he learned from Claudette. Essentially, Claudette helped Linguine learn to run a business and helped Remy cook better in a restaurant setting. And of course she learned from Linguine and Remy a lot as well). He also was kickass at rollerskates.

  • @OriginalPiMan

    @@ma.2089 I'd like to believe that after the events of the movie, Remy tried again to teach Linguine how to cook. At least to a passable level, but not a professional level.

    If he made him cook by directing his exact movements at all times, could he really not have taught him to cook the normal way? Give him some recipes and guide him step by step through each one, telling him exactly when to flip, how to chop, how long to blend, etc. They even show the initial stages where Linguine is struggling to perfectly replicate the movement Remy is commanding from him. Pixar just wanted the quirky image of a master chef who secretly has a highly intelligent rat hiding in his hat guiding every move he makes.

    @@OriginalPiMan But Remy is just tugging on his hair to tell him to move his arms a certain way. If he can learn a system like that, he can learn to cook. There's nothing he's doing that's magical. He's moving his arms, hands, and body in very specific ways, at very specific times. If he lacked the required finesse for cooking, then he'd never be a suitable puppet. It's not as if Remy's controlling his body directly, he's just giving signals. Telling him what to do step by step in a way that's completely silent so as not to give away the fact he's under the hat by making any noise. The only thing that could prevent Linguine from being a master chef is his intelligence. If he can't memorize Remy's recipes to make them exactly to standard without needing to be walked through the process step by step every time he does it no matter how many times he does it, then you could say he's not a good chef. But he can effectively run a business as has been stated. So he's not as stupid as he seems. I see no reason why he couldn't be taught to make foie gras, escargot, minestrone, spaghetti bolognese, lobster thermidor, etc. Even if it takes 200 times of making a meal step by step for him to memorize the recipe, he's still memorized the recipe. If he memorizes a menu's worth of recipes, then he's a master chef as far as the movie is concerned (Because he'd probably have to go to cooking school in reality, but in the movie all it takes is for him to make a tasty soup for everyone to start talking about his potential.)

    I'm looking into becoming a speedrunner myself. Only thing is I'm stuck on step 4 on how to become one. Do you know where I can find a Super Crown to complete the process of getting into the world of speedruns?
