Rarely Seen Mountain Wedding Rituals (Ibayyo Wedding in Bontoc, Philippines)

A traditional wedding in Ibayyo is truly a magnificent experience. We are in the picturesque mountains of Barangay Bayyo in Bontoc Province where we are documenting the union of Glaiza and Melford from start to finish. This wedding is a collective effort by the community where everyone has a role to play in ensuring that the sacred event is a success and that the bride and groom’s marriage is blessed by the gods.
This is a tradition that has been around for many generations and is still practiced to this day. We hope you enjoy watching this special feature as much as we did!

Sana ang bayanihan culture ng ating bansa ay patuloy na tangkilikin ,hindi lang sa iisang lugar kundi sa buong Pilipinas. Gaya nga ng sabi ni mayor religion is incorporated but the culture is never forgotten😢❤❤❤

Wala akong masabi kundi napakaganda!!! It's Bayanihan at its best. A tradition that never fade away in your place. When I was a kid, being a member of bago tribe somewhere in the northern part of La Union, I witnessed this kind of tradition. I remember my late father always was a part of the butchering and cooking of food. We kids helped on separating the banana barks to be used as dishes or help in cleaning the yard where the wedding event will happen or even help bring water from the pump well to be use. Yeah it's really a very good memory to cherish. The problem now is, modernization took its toll. It affected the true meaning of bayanihan now. Nobody wants to help now for free. Others who have already have a higher status in life feel that they are not anymore fitted to do such kind of help. Pa sosyal na sila. Yeah, as they go up in their status in life for some, it also affected their attitude in dealing with other people. That's why I am so envious that your community was able to preserve your culture despite of the Changing times. The Bayanihan or Spirit of Unity is still intact. God bless you all!!!

THIS is what we should be entertaining. i cannot wait for what is in store for erwan and featr.

These concepts are actually universal in the Cordilleras, iba iba lang ang name. Usually, weddings are scheduled in December, kaya andaming ulam at walang magugutom. Depending on the family's economic capacity, the wedding celebrations can last up to 1 week.

You are actually related to the Igorots by your Pangasinense side. History said the 8 wooden boats from north India (Nagaland, Asam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and the Chin tribe of Burma originated from Mongolia) traveled via Malaysia or Indonesia thru wooden boats. It did not mention how many boats among the 8 boats landed in Lingayen. These are the Pangalatots. Their brothers continued moving nortth via the Agno river. These are the ibalois, mentioned only Mun. of Kabayan, Benguet, and the kankanaey tribe of Bakun and Kibungan. The other boats continued along WPS, since the lowlands are already with inhabitants, they went up mountains, the tribes of Abra, Tanudan of Kalinga and Kalinga-meaning two distinct group, Then Apayo, The IBontoks and ibanaos of Mt. Province and the iFugaos of the Province of Ifugao. But in the course of time there were inter marriages and other nationalities like Samiklay (Sammy Leigh) a Briton pirate who came hiding in the Cordillera, continued his ilicit business in cohorts with chinese pirates. (Princess Urdajah of Pangasinan was of chinese pirate lineage might be one of British pirate Samiklay's business ally. not sure) Igorot kami Igorot kami is a movement (regional part of a national movement) advocating the use of Maharlika against Philippines. Preservation and enhancement of the good, (reome the bad if any) cultures of the different tribes in the Philippines. The igorots forefathers resisted colonization by Spain. Hence we are proud igorots.

Awwe! This is very sweet. I'm so fortunate to be an Igorot. Most Igorots that I know are hard-working, tough yet caring, intelligent yet humble, and hospitable. They have good characters! Of course. Not all, but most of us, by God's grace. It's a privilege to be a part of the Igorot community. I haven't seen any "highlanders" who are homeless because they have their own homes in their village, even if they aren't large structures, but a "kubo" is more than enough for us. As someone who currently lives in the United States, I constantly miss my culture and the people. One day, when I have enough savings and investments to support myself and help others, I will return to my hometown and live there for good. Thanks so much for featuring this! ❤

This is why I really admired and greatly envied Cordillerans. Minsan ko nang nakita personally yung ganito pero brief lang and nacurious ako sa buong ceremony talaga from preparations to end and ngayon eto na. Thank you FEATR for this, grabe ang effort niyo in every featured video like this. More power!

As a filipino, I am so proud. Thank you. I came from the Visayas but there are things that are clearly common with our traditions and culture. One thing that brings me back to the time when I was a kid is, we gather and eat as a community, we called it "kuasjon" or "kwasjon"...we eat using banana stem as a plate "upak". Seen the kids preparing/breaking it. Thank you for sharing! Loved it.

Glad we still practice exactly the same culture and traditions in the town where i grew up (Quirino, Ilocos Sur). This acrually is still being practiced in most "Bago tribes" dispersed in some of the mountainous interior towns of Ilocos Sur, Abra, LU, and of course the Cordilleras.

Bago tribes was formed because the true history of that was..kankana-eys from cordillera especially from benguet go down from the mountains to trade from lowlands and soon until they inter- married and a new language was formed into bagbag-o or bago (a mix of ilocano and kankana-ey).

I am a hiker and some places that I visited in the Mt. Province has farmlands so I was curious where do they sell their produce and most guides would say it is just for the family’s consumption and for the community when there are events such as weddings, funerals among others. Sure I got the idea in my head but I am dumbfounded how this sense of community is being practiced in reality. Thank you FEATR for showing this awesome tradition and congratulations to the couple. You are stronger with that community behind you.

I love this way of marriage traditions. Hoping that this tradition will be treasured and practice for many generations to come. Sad to say but with the fast growing economy and modernization of the Philippines and industrialism. These Filipino traditions will be practiced only in far provinces like the northern part and southern part of the Philippines.
