Rare Vintage Lighter Restoration - Clinton Squeeze Lighter

I will restore this awesome Clinton squeeze lighter. There is some rust and damage from pitting but the mechanism works. Also the plating on the lighter is in need of a restoration. I really like this type of mechanical lighters because it’s always fun to take look and see what’s inside.
The restoration was quite straight forward. I had no issues with the disassembly, other than the fact that some parts fell out and I didn’t see where they came from. Luckily it didn’t take too long to figure out how to put it back together.
I used rust remover to get rid of the rust. It is very simple solution when there are a lot of small pieces and it is not abrasive. I also like to use rust remover because I often get the disassembly filmed quite late. I can get the part to rust remover fast and then leave them there overnight and continue the next day.
After rust was removed I sanded all the pitting from the parts. This took many hours I had to be very careful with the largest shell part because there was this pattern and I didn’t want to ruin it by sanding.
After sanding I first copper plated the parts and then nickel plated them over the copper. The copper will increase the durability of the plating. Here’s my nickel plating tutorial, copper plating works with the same principles. • How to make simple DIY...
Video where I made the ignot: • Is This the Easiest Fu...
The other parts were pretty much ready to be polished and then nickel plated from the rust remover. Here is my nickel plating tutorial for more information on the process: • How to make simple DIY...

I really enjoy these videos. They are calming and not annoying in the slightest. The aspect of no music makes it better so you can hear all of the components making noise. It's like a better version on ASMR. It's also surprising how you can get humor through no noise at all. You're doing great work for KZread. Stay safe.

I love your lighter videos! My half-brother old lighter came from his late father as a gift and it was lost in their pool for months. It was rusty and gross when we found it so my brother just placed it in a drawer and left it to collect dust. I loved the idea of restorating lighters (hince this channel) and tried some methods like the sanding and the rust remover, nothing to hard. And once I gave it a good clean, I gave it back to my brother and he was so pleased. Thanks to you, now my brother can have a working lighter and a good momento from his father! Love from Missouri, USA ❤️

You are so good. Can you do more consoles and electronics? They are fascinating.
