It should be the opposite, the Vietnamese MIGs usually have a big disanvantage about long range weapons compare to US aircraft and cannot carry much of missile or weapons or bombs, so the NVA pilots were instructed to encounter or lauch suprise interceptions in short range so they can disanvantage of US aircraft long range weapons and force the US pilots to throw off the bombs early and get into a dogfight with them and that's when the mobility advantage of the Migs will be affective.

In the 80s we lived in Várpalota (Hungary). This was the time of socialism in hungary (not as bad as communism, we have light socialism with many western goods) and near the city of Várpalota leans one of the biggest practice range of Hungary. Artillery, tanks and airplanes, helicopters practice the shooting there. In the 80s MIG21s fly over the city literally 100 meters high, and turn to target. We saw firing missiles and machinegun action when we went to the small hills of Várpalota. Mi 24s and Mi8 fly over our houses 10-15 meters high! We see the pilots. I never forget the sound of the Migs. So loud so brutal. And the sound of the rotors of the helicopters. I was 12-14 but I hear the difference from distance if a helo comes and know what type it is. One of my biggest surprise a Mig23 fly over our houses... I only once saw that type of jet, but man... it was so beautiful! Fly with closed wings (delta wing position)

I love history and I love historic airplanes. In a small way, a VERY small way, I feel like I kinda participated in a blink of history. Nixon drafted my older stepbrother and sent him to fight in Vietnam. He didn't want to go, but they threatened to throw him in prison if he didn't ( so much for "free America".) At first, I didn't really understand what all this was about. I was pissed at the government for kidnapping my stepbrother- who was a VERY cool and peaceful person. The US Army made him a door gunner in a helicopter. I became an anti-war peace protestor. Haha! So I did participate in history- sorta. This video is really cool. I think it's important to see " the other side's " story. Otherwise, all we have left is what the US government tells us. ( Can you say P-R-O-P-A-G-A-N-D-A ?) I've been to the US Vietnam war memorial. How many Americans died in that war? 55,000? TOO DAMN MANY! But wait, not many Americans know ( or care) how many VIETNAMESE died in that war. In 1995, Vietnam released its estimate on how many Vietnamese PEOPLE died in the conflict. As many as 2 MILLION Vietnamese CIVILIANS of both sides died, and over 1,100,000 NVA / VC perished. The US government estimates between 200,000- 250, 000 South Vietnamese military personnel died. Good God! DAMN! That is a LOT of human beings! The US government said, "we were over there fighting for our freedom." WTF!? It was a civil war. If the US had not become involved, and drug it out, the war would have lasted weeks, maybe. The Vietnamese (both sides) had the right to self-determination. Natural selection. The people of North AND South Vietnam were fighting for self-determination. Both should be respected and honoured. This video shows heroic pilots, patriots. I can see parallels to the American Revolution. War is such a horrible, horrible waste of human lives.

If you are refering to G-suit, then it was mandatory as you say, it was used in every flight. You also have many videos of hungarian MiG-21 and 23, you can see the pilots flying with normal g-suit and flying costume

@@albaviator You guessed it right, I'm from Hungary. Strange. Two former pilots told me unanimously, that the pressure suit was worn during every flight. Perhaps they have fading memories, or I misunderstood something. One thing is for sure: in Hungarian service, the main role of the "Shiny" (as the Hungarian pilots and ground crew called the MiG-21 fighters) was high altitude interception (as the ground attack role was covered by MiG-15, MiG-17 and later, Su-22 fighters). Anyways, great video, thanks for the upload!
