Rare Honda Motorcycle Sitting For 50 Years. Will It Run?

I start to work on one of my Grandpa's mint, rare Honda s65s. This bike is in mint condition and all original. It has been sitting for a very long time! Can we fix it and make it run? #Honda, #Rare, #Fix,

I had one exactly like it , same color, brings back a lot of memories. One day my buddy and I were going down the river and he had a Honda 90 and I drove off in a deep spot and my buddy was up on the bank laughing at me and I yelled at him to get his ass down here in the water and help me get it out!!! It took me about 2 hours to get it started. I drove that little bike all over , it was a great little bike.

When you're starting a bike that's been standing, if you squirt a bit of 2 stroke gas into the spark plug hole, itll help lubricate the piston and save your bore. New battery would be nice, but the battery on these bikes is there more as a regulator than anything else. New petcock rubber, 5 bucks. New petcock, 20 bucks. Sweet little fun bike should be good for another 50 years if kept lubed up properly... 😀👍

In the early seventies, my first bike was a Honda 55. Wonderful little motorcycle. I did not know anything about motorcycles, engines at all, but it bent a valve one time and I fixed it myself. It was so simple nobody had to tell me how. No, I did not use a torque wrench or a feeler gauge, LOL.

That thing is a beauty. A little tip, it might seem like those oily fingerprints on the tank are insignificant but if left, they can potentially damage that original paint. You should give it a wipe down from time to time.

In 1964 my dad brought home a frame and a bushel basket of parts for the 50cc version of this bike. A few days later, my brother-in-law and I had it together and running. The rear tire was bald so I bought the nearest one I could find, a knobby scrambler tire. I rode it year-round in snow, rain, or extreme heat and it never let me down. Of course, I was riding it illegally because I was underage but I never got caught. I was brutal to this little bulletproof bike and it never complained. I ended up selling it when I got my driver's license and had access to the family car. Since then, I've owned many bikes of all sizes, styles and origins. Now I'm an old man on a Sportster. Still ridin'.....

I really like your Grandpas bike, I have a 1967 Honda CL90 that is similar to that little gem, but is more of a scrambler style with chrome fenders and telescoping forks. Fortunately I have an original Chiltons shop manual for all the information that you were fumbling around trying to figure out. My old Honda isn't as sweet as that one, but it is in very good shape and has been stored since the early 1970s out of the weather. The children of the owner didn't like the original color (red?) and took the bike apart, painted it green, and like is often the case the kids were not able to put the fairly new bike back together again. They soon lost interest in their project and the parts were stuffed into a couple of boxes until I received the Honda and reassembled it with the help of Chiltons excelent book. I was able to locate a few missing parts at a local motorcycle salvage yard, but the rubber parts were pretty rough so I never started the engine and took it for a ride. I owned a Harley Davidson at the time, so cruissing the Honda 90 not a big priority... Then life happened, and I got old as dirt, so I need to sell my old Honda just like your Gramps.... maybe I should make a video like you did?? Best of luck to you young man with your channel. Thank you for sharing that great vintage bike.

Watch the intake valve as you turn the engine. As it begins it close, the piston is coming up to top dead center. Put a soft probe into the spark plug hole or watch for the piston coming to the top. You are now at TDC. Valves can be adjusted at this point.

The year was 1978, Christmas day. Had been telling my mom that I wanted a dirt bike all year long like all my friends had in our neighborhood. So my mom walked us over to the neighbors house where she had kept mine and my Brothers Christmas presents hidden away for the last couple of weeks. The drum roll sounded and the garage door lifted as I could just imagine jumping and racing against my friends on the track behind my house... but when my and my Brothers eyes finally gazed on the sight before us, I could have swore we heard the happy days song playing in a not so happy rendition. For me, a black HONDA 65, and for my older brother, a blue HONDA 90. My mother must not have known the difference between a street bike and a dirt bike. But we all have to play the cards life deals us. That HONDA 65 looked pretty cool flying off the jumps behind our house with the white vinyl wrap around the seat and the rubber on chrome fuel thank pads! But when it Landed on that stupid swing arm front suspension, I don't think we were saying to ourselves "Thanks mom for the Dirt Bikes"!

Little 6 volt battery like my 125 has. Your lucky, i would love to have one of those to work on. And not broken crap. Sweet!

My firs bike was a '68 Honda S65 exactly like that. I went on to other bikes and gave it to my brother years later who then sold it. Wish I still had it!

I actually cringed when I saw the adjustable wrench, glad you came to your senses. I'm a new subscriber and love the videos, keep em coming. I actually use these to teach my grandkids about bikes. Sorry, don't give you credit, they just think old grandpa is really smart. Lol

I owned one of those as a kid! Not much suspension on it, but scooted up the road pretty decent! Have it's "little brother" Honda 55 sitting in the garage still.....

I would recommend on bikes like this that havnt run in that long to fog the cylinder with some fogging oil before turning over like that after sitting

Nice bike! I got a Honda C70 step through moped virtually same as that except it's a 3 speed semi automatic so no clutch 70cc, engine and head basically the same from outside it's original 1980 here in London England, done 25k miles in its first 10 years then hasn't moved since 1990! Was mint until few years back got left out in rain unknowingly and rusted away pretty much everything other than frame and engine so I want to do a full restoration on it when I have the time and money bit of nostalgia as I had it since o was 15 when my cousin gave it to me he was first or second owner so want to keep it in family sentimental reasons, Honda Cub biggest selling motorbike ever made 140million sold I think worldwide but remember as a kid my mate had same motorbike as this one you're selling not in this condition though it was old then and we'll used but it wasn't terrible like an antique light blue/green and chrome from memory.. nice bike! Think if it was me I'd have to keep it 😎

Yes... i had a 1974 st90 with that funny 3 speed trans and no hand clutch... shift pattern was 3 down... the original "paddle shift" concept... it only did like 40 mph
