I first heard this awesome song when it came out in 1969.. Rare Earth was great then and they are still great some 54 years later!!! Not many groups can outlive the generation they came out with!!! Rare Earth hangs in with Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly, Rolling Stones and others!!!! ROCK ON!!!!

I was 7..mom always had the radio on in the car....I knew this song very well....

In the military barracks in Germany, around 1971, high as a kite on hashish. This song playing on a thousand dollar stereo setup, bass turned up, the band crawls inside your head and makes itself at home. You are one with the music. 5 or 6 guys in the room , no one saying a word, all just knodding our heads to the beat. Thousands of miles away from home, but we are at peace with the world.

They still make music like this, but mainstream radio stations rather play music which the masses can consume and don't trigger responses of inspiration or admiration. Just like modern art and architecture slowly replacing true masterpieces. We are approaching the state of the world sketched by Aldous Huxley in Brave New World and people longing for true artistry are slowly but certainly becoming the feared minority.

Another wonderful example of the overwhelming musical talent of the 60's and 70's. This band and it's music was overshadowed by other bands marketing machines. But real music NEVER dies and this is an example of talented musicians / writers making REAL music that's timeless. I was in high school catching the bus to go to school and I played it all the time unfortunately as I was playing it I had to go in school because the song was too long but I put my record player will my MyPlayer on pause after that I should get ready here I come

I'm now 65 learned to love rare earth in the seventies, because of my neighbor! Nate, in Memphis on Orleans and Lucy st. Nate has since passed on , but when ever I hear this I'm reminded of him and his herb of choice,!!!!RIP nate ( My mom said his music was to loud, but I loved it)

Absolutely some of the best music ever made. Sadly, "screaming" instead of actually having a voice and singing took over and then "rap" came along and it was all downhill from there. Rare are the songs these days that are worthwhile actually listening to, music wise, skill wise, lyric wise.

Wow, hearing a absolute classic master piece that is over 21 minutes long is beyond words to describe it!

In in my late 60's now and still enjoy listening to Rare Earth. Used to drag up and down main street on a Friday night and all I really liked to listen to was this band and Grand Funk Railroad on my 8 track through some Kraco speakers. Say what you want, but I think we had the best Rock 'n' Roll in the 70's.

These guys didn't get the recognition they deserved they are top shelf funk masters of rock. I was a young kid when I first heard this I knew from then on I wanted to do this but never heard this version just radio play long story short they were my inspiration they are still #1 to me. God got me to Joe, I am a a gospel music lover now but the music we had back in the day was irreplaceable. Some time I go back listen to that Motown sound.

I was 11 almost 12 when I first heard Rare Earth back in 1970. Pete and the men of this band blew me away. Pete the great drummer he is, could also belt out a tune. Especially on this song. Now that's talent to play drums and also sing. John Parrish (Persh) killed it on the bass. His solo knocked my boots off. It's a shame he was an underrated bass player. Every one got a turn to solo on this song to show their skills and talent. Great job. My favorite song ever in my life time and I'm now 65.

Ray Monette on guitar, his solo was kick ass. Gill Bridges on saxophone was "bitchin". He made the tambourine sound cool. And Mark Olssen on organ phenomenal. A fantastic band all the way around.

Yes, classic, historical!

50 plus years ago I first heard this while in the service. Still Amazes me. Vocals rhythm and DRUMMER 😊🙏♥️♥️♥️♥️

Love this! First concert I went to was Rare Earth & Santana.

Avec l'argent on peut tout acheter sauf notre santé et notre jeunesse 🕺. Ce soir j'ai les larmes aux yeux en écoutant cette chanson😪... Souvenir souvenir lorsque tu nous tiens 😤💉... Une jeunesse des années 70/80 à Paris🗼qui resteront gravées à tout jamais au fond de nous-même... Un grand bravo 👏à tous ces grands artistes qui ont su nous faire vibrer l'âme et chavirer le cœur💕. There is a Moody Blues concert here on YT that took place in Paris in 1968. You can experience those long gone days and watch people dancing right by where the band was set up. It’s a great performance.

It was San Francisco in 1971, and I was smoking a joint of panama Red, listening to Rare Earth, this long version. What a different world back then. I went into The Marines July 12th, 1971.

Oh wow! How much I do Love this Incredible Song! And life was better back then!

This is the kinda music the world really needs right now blasting from the radio stations,cars,cell phones ,homes and in the clubs.This is real music and real music for the soul.

Astonishingly great times through the years still rocking with this fine song!

Saw most of original members in middle of a new minor league baseball field , only a stones throw up from Mississippi River. Drizzled light rain, nobody cared. Only 100 people at most and the wife and me. Sugar Loaf, Uriah Heep, Spencer Davis. Danced, played, danced some more & more. A groovy vibe for those who stayed. Best 3 HR free flow jam session and happening to this day. People getting off on vibe and jam. None better at genre than Rare Earth.

I SAW THIS GROUP IN NORTHERN Indiana maybe 1978or1979 it was just great enjoyed it very much and still hearing their music

Best organ playing on that version I could listen to it all day!

They were an okay band. One hit song doesn't make a band great. This is a decent tune but it's also weak. Like the rest of their catalog.

Oh my goodness my older brother played this and I just danced and danced. Im in my 60 ‘s now and still loving it. I have the vinyl and will purchase from iTunes for my car

Good to hear again. 66 and still rocking in Cape Town, South Africa

There were many very good records in our time, but Get Ready is one of the best - even today.

The entire band just kicks ass through the whole 20 plus minutes of this musical masterpiece.

@@captebbtide The drum solo reminds me of "Key" by the "Guess Who" on their "Canned Wheat" album.

Glad I can still hear incredible music like this.

This drum solo alone inspired me so much. I received my first drum kit at 13. Wow its still powerful.

I remember loving this song, and babysitting and helping my mom clean base housing.... she took me to a a record/album shop in Sausalito... I wanted this album. I still have it today.... determination, appreciation, and a good, patient mamma. She took me there to get my most wanted album, even though she was working hard, to6 - my dad was in the Marines, and was in Vietnam 3 times, and overseas a lot... Okinawa, Philippines, etc. This song has lived with me forever ❤❤💙💙

These guys performed this Live,recorded this on the double knacksack album 23mins wonderful. My father worked for the US Navy and rented to US Navy personnel, how I first heard them. Much Love!

I've been playing drums since 1966 and I always enjoy listening to the drummer executing one heck of a brilliant solo! Forget all the fancy, technical stuff, this guy doesn't need it! He just plays what he feels, Yeeeeah!

I'd forgotten how seamlessly the solos flowed together..unbelievable..

Thank you for sharing this. It was suggested by KZread after listening to Ten Years After and it made my day! I did not know that this existed. Possibly the best jam I ever heard.

Played this song all day at my senior picnic in 1970...........

Haven't listened to the long version in decades, all I have to say is "Right On"!!

I remember when this album came out my cousin TJ used to play it I was about nine or 10 years old God rest his soul I miss you brother🙂

I was 17yo in 1974 when I got to see rare earth along with several other bands like the eagles, deep purple, black sabbath, elp and earth wind and fire while attending California Jam 1. Two hits of window pane (those who know know), less than half a football field away with a path to get to the stage. It was a crazy time and being reminded of them through the music on KZread that randomly pop up that I haven't heard in possibly decades triggering that in my life is amazing. I believe if my memory serves me well that this song woke everyone one up.
