Rare Canadian Quarters- What To Look For In Your Pocket Change
1973 LARGE BUST MOUNTIE QUARTER
With less than 10,000 pieces believed to have been made, the 1973 Large Bust quarter is one of the more popular rare Canadian coins. In 1973, to commemorate the 100th birthday of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the mint produced hundreds of millions of quarters that depicted a Mountie on horseback. A small number were made using the obverse of the 1972 Quarter. Circulated examples can be purchased for around $150, while mint state examples can be found for around $300-$500.
2000 P CARIBOU QUARTER
Around the turn of the millennium, the Royal Canadian Mint began experimenting with nickel-plating around a steel inner core. The coins were struck with a small “P” on the obverse side. A very small number of 2000 “P” Quarters were released into public circulation. If you find one of these in your change, this ultra-rare 2000 P quarter is worth as much as $10k.

Thanks for the info. I had a 1973 quarter and wasnt sure how to tell the large from the small bust but your video helped me figure out that I did not have the rare one. Oh well, keep up the good work. See ya in the next one.
1968 was a transition year from silver to nickel, as a result the RCM was not trying to trick anyone. LOL New sub.

That quarter, from the mounted police, I always liked very much. and I have one as soon as I could sell it.
Nice review of the top ten Canadian Collectible Coins. :) New sub.
I would have liked to see that Lynx quarter at the beginning...
Very nice selection of coins. The 1968 Silver Quarter is about the only silver Quarter you can still find in circulation

Best way to tell the difference between silver and nickel coins is simply the sound they make when lightly dropped on a table, no need for a scale because not everyone has a scale

Although you have to be familiar with the difference in sound the two coins make.
the easy way to tell the 1968 quarters apart is to use a magnet ,and one of my favorite commemorative Canadian coins is the 1951 nickel

There's a specific year when the Canadian mint under produced the quarter. There were only 495,000 struck for the 1991 year. They stopped production for 1991 early, so they can work on producing the Canada 125 series of quarters for 1992. The lower No. of quarters minted in 1991, meant each quarter shot up in price due to rarity. Starting at 3.00 per coin.
I spend a lot of my time searching for a very Rare and expensive coin.
I have this in a mint set and one from circulation found in change.
I had one of them nickels didn’t know it was rare “ish”
the sliver quarter will be hard to find...even in the 80's and 90's people were keeping them when they got them .......but they do show up...
When they were putting out the "Mountie quarters" the government was complaining that people were not using them. They were estimating at the time only about half were being circulated. Over the next few decades they were used more often but there are still way too many still being saved to make them more than a curiosity.

Probably because they were only 2 different commemorative quarters designs minted at that time so i guess it was still a new thing
I have many 1973 Mountie coins but lots of luck finding the small bust in circulation. Many of the coins spoken of in these videos are no-shows in circulation, but yes, one can still find some silver coins in circulation as people turn in those accumulations in glass jars they inherited or clean out the sock drawer. Don't get your hopes too high.
R C M P. stands for Royal Canadian Mounted Police.I just got one of these quaters from 1973 last week at 7-11 store
Great video thanks for talking about our coins in the GREAT WHITE NORTH, if you ever want to swap let me know
People always forget about the 1991 Canadian quarter. Its SUPER rare as only 450,000 were minted.

IF you want to see what a coin here discussed/explained, search the internet with the correct name. I read the comments and I also know he didnt share photos of some of these coins. There has to be a library of these coins on line some where. Good luck, I have to search as well, and who knows, maybe some one else on YT has the coin you need to see, perhaps they have one.
Use a Magnet on your Change _ Anything that don't stick is silver
I actually used a Canada quarter in America in a machine and it works. I think it's because Canada quarters feel like US quarters.
Would be nice to find some of them thanks for sharing

Yea chances of that are slim. Just saying that most silver coins were taken out of circulation for the 1968 quarter it is pretty unlikely your gonna find the silver variant. For the Mountie chances of finding a large bust is slim because a lot of coin collectors look for them. As for the 5 cents because it was a popular coin there are very few left in circulation.
Yes your right about RCMP
I find the easiest way to tell between the silver and nickel is to use a magnet
They also had trading cards for the 1973 RCMP. And a silver dollar. The big deal on the quarter is they started with the traditional bust and then went to a smaller one. The large bust pays over $50.

It is RCMP (Roayl Canadian Mounted Police, you are right. From Canada.
The 1991 Canadian quarter production was 450,000 making it relatively rare.
The 1973 quarter has a large head and a small head. Only 10,000 large head approx issued.
The large headc1973 Canada quarter. Is hard to find. I have 7 of them. 2 regular used issued and 4 in mint sets from mint.
I have 48 rcmp quarters that my dad collected are they worth anything more that 25 cents each
The animal on the 1967 Canadian quarter is a lynx and not a bobcat. Thanks for the video.
RCMP is Royal Canadian Mounted Police you are correct.
Why aren't you providing pictures of the coins your taking about?
It should be made clear that the vast majority of Mountie quarters are only worth 25 cents. There were about 136 million made. It's a small selection of special large bust quarters that are rare.
When talking about a coin it would be far better to follow your comments if you displayed the coin.
I have one of the 1973 Mountie coins and am currently trying to figure its value. It is magnetic but I heard that was not actually a relevant test? The other coin I have is the 1967 Bobcat, which is not magnetic. Should I be weighing them to find out their silver or nickel content? I would really appreciate your input, thanks.
I have a couple of the ones with the horse.
