The guy singing is Mark Lanegan, lead singer of the band Screaming Trees and his solo work Mark Lanegan Band. He was also part of Mad Season, the super group with Layne Staley, Mike McCready, Barrett Martin, and John Baker Saunders. Anyone who hasn't given Mark's music is missing out big time

Asked why they were called Queens and not Kings, Homme revealed: "Kings would be too macho. The Kings of the Stone Age wear armour and have axes and wrestle. "The Queens of the Stone Age hang out with the Kings of the Stone Age's girlfriends, when they wrestle." He added: "Rock should be heavy enough for the boys and sweet enough for the girls. That way, everyone is happy and it's more of a party. Kings of the Stone Age, is too lopsided."

He only played like a month of that tour; they had to postpone it until Joey Castillo could learn enough songs to play a whole set. They went out again and Joey beasted the drums and it turned out to be a great tour after all. Also, Mark Lanegan here got in a fight during this tour with the supporting band They Will Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead. Notorious ass whooping. Enjoy everyone!

Queens of the Stone Age has had some monsters on drums. Dave played drums on their Songs for the Deaf album. Joey Castillo took over after that. Joey left in the middle of recording their …Like Clockwork album, so Dave stepped in again for most of the songs. He highly recommended Jon Theodore, so Jon joined the band. I think Jon drummed on one song on the …Like Clockwork album. He’s been their drummer ever since. QOTSA and Pearl Jam have no beef. It would be funny to watch - I hear Eddie Vedder is very short and Josh is 6’4”. Eddie came out and played cowbell on their song “Little Sister”at a few festival gigs, there are clips on KZread. See why I kept hassling you guys for QOTSA reactions? 😁 By the way, the guy in the purple sweater is Troy Van Leeuwen. He was in A Perfect Circle before QOTSA. He’s in the “Judith” video, but you have to really be looking for him. This was awesome! Thank you so much ❤️

8:30 That is a lap steel guitar, most often used in country and bluegrass styles. Is anyone surprised Dave stole the show slaughtering that kit? BTW, Dave also plays drums in Them Crooked Vultures, a supergroup he formed with QOTSA guitarist Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones. As for the subgenre in question? Stoner rock: heavy bottom end, overdrive and distortion pedals are almost mandatory for the guitars, bluesy tone to the riffs, etc. Another guest on this track was vocalist Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees. Still gotta get to Little Sister, Go With the Flow, and Feel Good Hit of the Summer

By the way pretty much every year QOTSA headlines mega festivals in Europe and South America, even with no new album…their last one came out in 2017. They are headlining three European festivals this summer. They were set to do one in England last year, but they had to cancel because of medical protocols. They only tour in the U.S. when they have new music. The crowd you guys were impressed by is a drop in the bucket. Suggestions: Mexicola Tangled in Plaid Medication The Sky Is Fallin’ The Blood Is Love If you need something for Valentine’s Day, do “Make It Wit Chu”. Lots of children were conceived to that one LOL

When Foo Fighters play live, Dave will switch with Taylor (their drummer) for a song. When they played New Zealand last, he was drumming and Taylor sang Under Pressure. Dave is so passionate in both roles though, even though it was an outdoor gig in the pouring rain he was still just fuckin jamming and smoking cigs and chatting to the crowd, and it was fucking amazing. You guys should check out From Can to Can't from Sound City which is another Dave Grohl project that features Corey Taylor showing off his range on vocals 🤙

Queens of the Stone Age had a lot of different musicians over the years, producing very varied music. This is about as hard as it gets. Other times, QOTSA made extremely melodic music, even down to haunting piano songs (Elton John collab included). Josh Homme made so much great music and chooses fantastic musicians to play it. My favourite from the more melodic ones: I Appear Missing live on Letterman And not QOTSA, but Homme, Grohl and Trent Reznor in a studio composing a song together: Sound City Players Mantra Official (with vocals & guitars)

🦋Eric picked a Nice One. 🙌 Awesome Reaction Guys! ''I Sat By The Ocean'' is my #1 favorite by them. This Concert Was A Wild One & Dave definitely played like he'd drank a 4 hour energy shot, 2 red bulls, a monster & a shot of Jäger for shits & giggles. If he played any faster / harder. I imagine he would've flew away. 😅 QOTSA was founded by vocalist and guitarist Josh Homme, After the breakup with his previous band Kyuss in 1995. He has been the only constant member throughout multiple line-up changes. The current line-up consists of Homme alongside Troy Van Leeuwen (guitar, lap steel, keyboard, percussion, backing vocals), Michael Shuman (bass guitar, keyboard, backing vocals), Dean Fertita (keyboards, guitar, percussion, backing vocals), and Jon Theodore (drums, percussion). Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer, Dave Grohl, joined in late 2001 to record drums for their third album. Songs for the Deaf was released in August 2002, again featuring Lanegan, along with former A Perfect Circle guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen to the touring line-up following the album's release. Also featured on Songs for the Deaf for the final track "Mosquito Song" were former A Perfect Circle bassist Paz Lenchantin on viola and piano, and Dean Ween on guitar. Towards the end of the Rated R tour, the band's performance at the 2001 Rock am Ring festival in Germany was, according to Homme, "the worst show we've ever played and it was in front of 40,000 people." The band decided to tattoo themselves with the starting time of the performance, "Freitag 4:15." As Oliveri explained during a interview. ''Me, Mark Lanegan, Josh Homme and Hutch, our soundman, have the same tattoo, it's from Rock am Ring festival. The time we had to play was 4:15 in the afternoon and it was just a terrible show. It sucked, it was horrible. That's why I tattooed it on my ribs, where it would hurt, so I'd never forget''.

I had heard of Kyuss prior to, but the first time I saw Josh Homme (the red headed leader/founder of QOTSA) play was with the Screaming Trees (the band fronted by the man singing this song, Mark Lanegan) in Olympia, Wa, in early 1997. About two blocks from where Dave Grohl first played a show with Nirvana. Coincidentally, that night was the first time I met Krist Novocelic, of Nirvana. Anyway, come fall of 1997 I hear of Josh Homme's new band playing their first show. Having seen the Trees, with Homme, earlier that year, I had to go check out this Queens of the Stone Age at the OK Hotel in Seattle. 🙂 Coincidentally, the same place Nirvana debuted Smells like Teen Spirit. Yeah, the 80s and 90s, some of the early 2000s, was a good time for music in the Northwest.

Dave Grohl is a monster and one of my biggest influence on my playing....I don't think he has ever laid down a sub par drum track...I often wonder when NIRVANA were on their last legs and Kurt sank deeper into addiction how many actual melodies and general riffs did Dave contribute to songs Kurt was writing...? Just a thought.....Peace.,...

Queen of the Stone age is like a collective. The only constant member is the lead singer/lead guitar/main song writer (he didnt sang this song). They have had like 20 member in their career. Dave Grohl recorded drums in that album and toured it. Back then he referred to it as the best album and most fun he have had since Nevermind with Nirvana.

The singer looks (and sounds) like Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees. Couldn't tell you the story here, because I've never really listened to QOTSA. On that note, you guys should react to Screaming Trees. They're one of the original Seattle Grunge bands. The song "Gospel Plow" is one of my favorites.

The only constant member of Queens of the Stone Age is Josh Homme, Dave Grohl goes and plays drums kind of at random for different bands, and sometimes just on particular albums. He played drums on a few Nine Inch Nails songs from With Teeth, on the first Tenacious D album, and of course voiced/played Satan in Beelzeboss.

The band used to be called Gamma Ray until they became aware of a prominent band from Germany with the same moniker who threatened to sue QOTSA. Their present name originated from a nickname their producer used to refer to the band. To paraphrase, J. Hommes explained that they used "Queens" instead of "kings" because it was wasn't excessively macho. They pictured themselves hanging out and partying with the Kings' wives and girlfriends while they were away at war.

A little background information: QOTSA is basically made up of one individual throughout their discography, Josh Homme. Josh first cut his teeth as the guitarist/songwriter with the Desert Rock/Stoner Rock band legends, Kyuss. After Kyuss had called it quits, Josh branched out and toured with The Screaming Trees. After that brief stint, he played almost every instrument and recorded the songs for the first Queen of the Stone Age album. QOTSA has had a "revolving door" of musicians in the band. Some stay for one album, some stay for multiple then move on to other projects, and then a new musician is brought in their place. In this particular phase of QOTSA, on bass is Nick Oliveri, also formerly the bassist for Kyuss. On vocals is Mark Lanegan of the Seattle band The Screaming Trees. Playing rhythm guitar and the lap steel type instrument is Troy Van Leeuwen, who played guitar on A Perfect Circle's Mer De Noms album. Of course, drums are played by Dave Grohl on the entire QOTSA album Songs for The Dead, but he also plays drums on a few tracks from QOTSA's later album, ...Like Clockwork. Dave and Josh Homme are very close friends and have also had numerous side projects together, with the most well known being Them Crooked Vultures which consisted of Josh, Dave Grohl, and bass legend John Paul Jones from a little known band named Led Zeppelin. These QOTSA folks have all been involved in other "supergroup" like projects with members of Mastodon (Killer be Killed, Gone is Gone, Legend of the Seagullmen), Tool/A Perfect Circle, Desert Sessions, Stoner, Mondo Generator, Eagles of Death Metal and more. It's quite the group of colleagues to have, and have all created large amounts of highly acclaimed music. A good rabbit hole to go down.
