    Love Pantera to death. They've been my favorite Heavy Metal band since I first heard them back in 1990 shortly after Cowboys From Hell was released. Had the pleasure of seeing them live 6 times in Philly and Jersey. Also have one of Dimebag's guitar picks that he threw out to the crowd. It's a black pick with his face on one side and signature on the other side. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SMOKEY!

    Pantera basically invented "the breakdown" there are maybe 1 or 2 other examples of something similar prior to them but personally I would credit them with the invention of the technique. A lot of what your hearing in Dimes playing that sounds like "other instruments" is a digitech whammy pedal and/or his ability to pull what's called harmonics and bend them up or down. Harmonics is where you lightly touch a place on the string that creates a high pitched tone then you can use the whammy bar to bend that tone up or down.

  • @joshuamasserant8215

    @joshuamasserant8215

    Жыл бұрын

    PanterA invented the breakdown. Get the fuck out... Agnostic Front, Madball, Biohazard, Prong, all did that in the mid - late 80,s but ok. There are billions of hardcore bands who did it way before and from the 70's also. Vulgar Display Of Power and Super Joint Ritual are the only music Phil has ever created like that but nowhere near first or being the investors of it. Freddy Cricien of Madball was doing breakdowns with Agnostic Front when he was 8 years old.

    Nah, this isn't grunge. This is one of Pantera's ballads, same as "Cemetery Gates". You guys should check out "The Sleep" next time, the riffs are tasty and it's got one of Dime's greatest solos (if not, THE greatest). I know you guys will love that song, great reaction guys! 🤘🤘🤙🤙

    There's definitely some Grunge influence here, but that's mostly from the Alternative Metal side of the song. Alternative Metal and Grunge went hand in hand in the early 90s. Both were based off of Alternative Rock and Metal. Grunge leaned more in the Alternative and Punk side, while Alternative Metal was of course more in the Metal direction.

    Phil channeling his inner Layne Staley in this one. Love this tune! You guys should react to Geezer - "Seance Fiction" or "The Invisible." It's a band started by Geezer Butler, who was the bassist of Black Sabbath, with Burton Bell from Fear Factory on vocals. The first album is fucking brilliant and almost no one knows about them. Thank you Mortal Kombat soundtrack for introducing me to them back in the 90's!

    This came out when I was coming up on 14. Blew my mind entirely one night sitting watching Headbanger's Ball on MTV at midnight or 1am. Went out and bought this album and Cowboys From Hell at the mall that week. Hits so damned hard that it surprised the hell outta me when they came back in 94 with Far Beyond Driven, and it was even heavier. Ayy happy birthyness sir.

Obviously the Abbot brothers aren’t there, but it’s gonna be a great celebration to honor Vinnie and a Dime. They have anthrax drummer and Zakk Wylde from ozzy and own band Black label. Zakk was one dimes close music friends and he in my opinion is a no brainer to play guitar. Shows coming next year I hear.

    I consider Pantera above Anthrax Slayer Testament and I have from day one. People might not remember but Pantera was part of the biggest crowd ever Moscow 1991 they were rocking it on stage right before Metallica took Center Stage

    Absolutely Dave mustaine's douchiness just rubs me wrong I don't listen to him just for that fact alone I think in his mind he believes he's supremely more talented a songwriter and musician than anybody in Metallica wrong

    @@mattarmstrong1756 I just don’t like the guy’s singing voice 😅 same reason I never really got into Slayer, I can hear the music is great but if a voice or general song topics don’t interest me I am signing out

    @@mattarmstrong1756 I like both bands, and maybe Metallica has the better songwriting, but Mustaine is miles above James or Kirk as far as ability with the guitar. That's just an objective fact.

    @@potatos_4_free he may have better ability but it doesn't play out in his music and solos. Tell you what take your time and send me a list of guitar solos from Megadeth that you believe are better than Kirk hammett's solos.

    The last notes are a bridge towards next song, "Rise", another banger. Not as connected as Suicide Note pt 1 and pt 2, but still they mix very well. Happy birthday Smokey!

    God Pantera will NEVER get old for me. I'll be 80 in a rest home and STILL blast them into my ears. Anyways, yes it's me again 😁. Ya'll ready to react to S.U.I.T (So Us Is This) by Blindspott yet? I'm gonna keep asking till yous do react to it or get annoyed with me (sorry in advance) lol. I'm just a proud kiwi tryna get a great great nz band out there to a new audience. And I'm surd you guys will dig them and their music. Thank you 😁🤘 And a massive metal happy birthday Smokey. Another day younger 👌 lol

    I hosted a Pantera show when they were hair metal. Their old singer, Terry Blaze got kicked out and in came Phil. I was playing beer bong with Dime, he said” you need to meet our new singer”. Went to the bar, picked this guys face off the bar by his hair and introduced us. Lol. They were all nice guys. Dime always had a smile on his face. When they went on their world tour MAXX HAMMER from Z-Rock was Phil’s babysitter on the tour lol.

    HBD Smokey. Recommend y'all (including Commenter's) check out Dimebag's/Vinnie's Cuzin's (her name is April) old band Premenishen. Look up Premenishen - Eyes Of The South (Featuring Dimebag Darrell) here on YT. Dimebag did a guest solo on the jam. The rest of the guitar is his cuzin April
