This was their first hit and most people's first experience of Linkin Park. I am not a Linkin Park fan but all their stuff was not the same. I think they lost a lot of early fans by moving away from the heavier stuff. Despite not being a fan, Chester was definitely a beast.

@@ultima6892 well, you contradict yourself, you say that In the End and Numb are their most mainstream hits and then you say people can't handle change from bands... if at the time all (or most of their songs) were like those two then they were mainstream and therefor they wouldn't have changed and there wouldn't be no change there for the fans to handle!! Obviously when I (and I suppose other fans) say they "went too mainstream" is their OVERALL sound and vibe, not one or two specific songs... can you seriously say that their first albums were mainstream?!?! Maybe the biggest hits, the most well known songs are a bit more mainstream, but that doesn't make them mainstream (or pop) at that time, their sound was much too heavy for normal mainstream/pop songs... then they obviously changed their overall tone and vibe, yes, they are allowed to change, I am not obligated to like the change just because I liked their previous works, that's all

Lifelong Linkin Park fan, have been since Hybrid Theory came out in 2000. They definitely considered themselves Nu-Metal, at least in the early days, and for many like myself were the introduction to Rap in general. Now, if you want to know whether their sound is the same across records, I honestly have to say No, many of their albums have a similar flow to them--especially their first two; Hybrid Theory and Meteora--their second album, and in my opinion their best but I love all their stuff. But after that, they tended to get a bit more experimental in their music, and honestly a lot of the fanbase would divide every album, often times saying they were "Selling out" or "Didn't sound the same anymore.", and in what became really annoying to me personally when Living Things came out in 2012, that they sounded "Too much like the old days", which was confusing to say the least. All in all, Linkin Park have an absolutely wide variety of songs and types, I'd recommend Given Up, Breaking The Habit, Wretches and Kings, Waiting For The End, and Guilty All The Same. Also, Mike Shinoda, the rapper, has a solo project called Fort Minor, you might enjoy checking that out too. Have a great day guys.

The song IN THE END, which is what Hollywood was referring to is also on Hybrid Theory, which was their debut album and one of the best first albums I think the two of you have heard a few songs from this album. I encourage you to do a full album reaction, as this is probably one of the greatest debut albums from this musical era, along with Infest from P Roach

Hybrid Theory songs tended to be either sung verses with rap chorus or rap verses with sung chorus. One Step Closer is an example of the former. In The End (the song you're humming) is a good example of the latter.

Then I went to see them live, (with btw Limp Bizkit and Metallica.)..and they blew my mind live. The way they sang over each other and threw the lines back and forth was just incredible. I find that when people say that all of a band's music sounds the same it's probably just coz they're not into that sound. Every band has it's own sound even though the songs can be drastically different. I find it funny coz I'm 60 and I love Linkin Park and introduced their music to my daughter and they were the first band she saw live which really is awesome I think.

Nah, it legit happens when an artist/band/group gets into a pattern. Happened with Linkin Park, happened with Staind, KoRn... Happens all the time. Usually the earlier album or two sounds different, a lil more raw, then they find "their sound" and put it on repeat.

Sean, overall your right. But then you have artists like the Beatles, David Bowie and Beck who have known to change up their styles with about every album. I can understand that having a signature sound can be both a good or bad thing. AC/DC is a perfect example of that pretty much establishing their sound on their debut nearly five decades ago. But it would be odd to hear them try something different especially at their ages.

Smokey may be onto something referring all the way back to the Run-DMC/Aerosmith collaboration! If nothing else I believe the nu-metal movement had to have been influence by it. After Aerosmith/RUN DMC you have Anthrax- I'm The Man which led to the Anthrax with Public Enemy- Bring the Noise collaboration and Faith No More- Epic would be probably the best early form of Nu Metal/ Rap-Rock(which ever label is preferred), However Grunge was what blew up and went big and everything just kinda went to the background until probably '95/'96 with Korn's first 2 albums coming out in '94 & '96 respectfully among others(RATM's first 2 albums dropped in '92 & '96). Essentially opening the flood gate. By '98 with Follow the Leader( '99 for RATM's BFLA) I feel the Nu Metal genre was everywhere. It was competing on TRL for the top spot against rap, rock. pop and R&B singers. RATM has been referred to as "Rap Metal" by reviewers. Maybe that's why I've always kept them in a column by themselves. However by '96 both RATM and Korn had 2 albums with each album having 3-4 singles on the charts. so '96 is a good start time for Nu Metal. 2 years after Cobain's passing and same year for both band's 2nd album being released.

TrashTalkers the song you are thinking of is In The End. One Step Closer was used with Points of Authority and 99 Problems in the Linkin Park/Jay Z mashup. Both One Step Closer and In the End are on their first album Hybrid Theory. To say that all Linkin Park albums sound the same is incorrect. For one Minutes to Midnight was after Chester Bennington had vocal cord surgery. And while Hybrid Theory was fast paced and hard, albums like One More Light we're slower by comparison.

Yeah, this was their first hit off of their Hybrid Theory album, they named the album that because that was originally going to be their band’s name but apparently it was taken. The name comes from fact that they mixed styles, that album has a few rap metal songs, Papercut and In the End are a few, can't remember if there are others off the top of my head.

Wow that song brought me back to the fun I had fresh out of high school. 2000 to 2003 was probably the fun I've had in my life. I wanted to enjoy everything I could before getting stuck in a career. It was worth it.

Check out Adema "The way you like it" from what I remember, it's their only track that really became popular... I could be wrong, but I honestly couldn't name another track by the band, it's a pretty good tune that gets stuck in your head, the music video is pretty funny and features members of Linkin Park. The one you're humming is "In the End" but if I remember correctly "One Step closer" was the first single they released off the Hybrid Theory album, then "Papercut", "Crawling" then "In The End" but again, I could be mistaken.

This was their first alternative radio hit for sure. In The End was a huge and probably their first crossover hit shortly thereafter. Some of their songs could be considered formulaic, but like you said it worked so why fix what isn't broken. Pretty wide range of stuff all considered though, as pointed out there's no "rapping" on this track and several tracks don't have it, some are heavy into it. Absolutely brilliant in my mind, definitely evolved with deep, thoughtful songs that hit on a whole different level than most nu metal outfits.

Man this song makes me relive my angsty teen years, repressed cringey memories have flooded into my brain The song you're stuck on is called In The End, and it was the biggest single on that album, it's one of their songs that has reached over a billion plays

Please, please oh please do Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name (official video) and/or Polyphia - Goat (official video). Both songs are great and reactors always love them. You'll enjoy them. Trust me. You'll regret not doing them earlier. A lot of people have reacted to those songs. Just look up how many videos there are on KZread for both songs. They'll be worth it.

@nathanclarke2777 In the End was the last single released from Hybrid Theory. It went One Step Closer, Crawling, Papercut, Points of Authority, and then In the End. They didn't intend Points of Authority to be a single but the fans made it a single by always requesting it on the radio stations.

Great reaction to a fantastic song. R.I.P. Chester! I was a fan of Linkin Park and played their albums endlessly when they first came out. I've got a recommendation for you guys. A band that goes by the name of The Warning. 3 sisters from Mexico make up this heavy rock band, playing amazing songs, amazingly well. All their songs are fantastic, but the one I listened to first and my introduction to the band is called 'Choke', so I recommend you watch/listen to the official video of 'Choke' by The Warning. I, along with other The Warning fans, would love to see your reaction to them, I'm sure. Peace. x
