That is Steven Stills on lead vocals and this song is about folk singer Judy Colins whom he was dating at the the time. Our House another one of their songs is about Joni Mitchell whom Graham Nash was in a relationship with. Joni Mitchell is a Canadian folk artist. Joni Mitchell's song The River is about the breakup of her and and Graham Nash's relationship. Graham Nash is British Steven Stills and David Crosby are American Neil Young Canadian (from my hometown of Winnipeg) A suite is a set of songs that can either be played together or separately. Love this song! Their harmonies are second to none! Cheers

Such a great song. Regarding the title: it's a play on words. In music, a "Suite" is a collection of different shorter pieces combined into one work, just like this is. And they are using "Suite" as a homophone of "Sweet", so when you say it out loud it sounds like "Sweet Judy Blue Eyes".

CSN(Y) was a "supergroup" - all of them were known from earlier bands, so their names had clout with the public. The song is in bits, like a suite of different songs, and it's also a pun "Sweet Judy Blue-eyes". Written by Stephen Stills after he split up with singer Judy Collins, as a way of saying "sorry, please come back." Her reply was "Great song, but haha - no." I always love it when the Spanish bit comes in. Try their "Marrakesh Express" next! :) RIP David Crosby.

A suite is collection of musical compositions played together. So this suite is called Judy Blue Eyes. It’s also a play on words sounding like Sweet Judy Blues Eyes. And I don’t think young guys realize how short of a time the Beatles were together. They only made music as the Beatles from 1960-1970. The amount of music they put out and the range of musical styles they went through in one decade is absolutely insane! Probably one of the most productive and versatile band of that era.

"Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" takes the unrequited love song to new places. Sweet Judy with the Blue Eyes is Judy Collins, a singer who took the Joni Mitchell composition "Both Sides, Now" to the top of the U.S. charts in 1968. Song birds and angels supply apt metaphors for describing her singing voice. Collins also has intensely blue eyes. They seemed to sparkle when she sang her songs on television way back when I was a kid. Classic song.

A suite is a song with multiple parts. The song is about Stephen Stills then girlfriend singer Judy Collins. Crosby, Stills and Nash uses a drummer and usually a bassist, but Stills played most of the bass on this. The band was the names so anyone could be added (Young) or subtracted (Stills Young Band. Crosby & Nash). They were definitely a supergroup. CSN was founded after Buffalo Springfield broke up (included Stills abd Young), Nash quit The Hollies, and Crosby was fired from The Byrds. They were all then living in the Laurel Canyon neighborhood of Los Angeles at the time. They may or may not have harmonized together for the first time at Mama Cass' house. Different members remember different things. They immediately knew their voices meshed beautifully. The Beatles broke up in 1970.

Graham Nash had a huge career in the UK and USA as a member of The Hollies, part of the British Invasion. He met David Crosby, who had just left The Byrds and Stephen Stills who had just left Buffalo Springfield in London and after one session with them, realised he had to chase this dream. So he left the band, packed up and went to California, where they made the first albums. Their voices melded so perfectly. They were one of the first supergroups, where every member had a successful career with a big band before they got together. Neil Young came along, and they became Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Their session at Woodstock, the second time they'd ever appeared together (the first in a small club) was eagerly anticipated because of their previous reputations and they were a smash. Young actually appeared with them, but refused to appear in the movie, so they had to cut his parts.

A "Suite" is classical musical structure typically consisting of three (not always) separate but related movements or musical ideas played in together in sequence. This song has three parts the beginning, the middle and the end with the Latin vibe. It's brilliant and one of their best songs of which there are many. Big rabbit hole to go down if your interested. They had some of the best vocal harmonies ever recorded and don't forget about C,S,N & Y. That came later when the great Neil Young joined them.

60s folk. They played this song at Woodstock, in August 1969, and it's called a Suite because the song had multiple distinct movements in how the song went, as far as tempo, and how each section of the song was a different section, as how the song went.

Crosby was second fiddle in the Byrds, Nash was part of the Hollies, the band with the second most hits in the 60s after only the Beatles, and Stills was the leader of Buffalo Springfield which broke up because he and Neil Young couldn't get along, which makes it ironic that Young sometimes played with them. The three of them were at a party in Haight-Asbury at the house of Jefferson Airplane when they found out they could harmonize very well. And so they formed a band. But they are not like Rush in that they were not a self-sufficient band. None of them played drums. But they all wrote songs, and they were probably the greatest harmonizers in rock. Here "suite" seems to be a pun on "sweet Judy" and the fact that the song comes off as a collection of songs, and so a suite. One of their first shows, if not their first, was Woodstock. They were so excited about it that they gushed to Joni Mitchell who wrote it up as a song, which they then recorded as Woodstock. Later Neil Young wrote the great protest song Ohio about the Kent State massacre. Their prettiest song is Guinevere. But they have other big hits like Wooden Ships (which they wrote, but was first recorded by Jefferson Airplane) Our House, Teach Your Children, etc. I have been puzzled by the ordering of the names. The Hollies was the biggest band, but Nash gets named last. He even wrote their first hit. Crosby was second fiddle to Roger McGuinn in the Byrds, while Stills was the main writer (although only slightly) of Buffalo Springfield. And yet Crosby gets top billing and Nash is at the end. Maybe it has to do with where their voices lie in the harmonies. Or maybe Crosby just had the biggest ego, and so they had no choice but to let him go first.

Suite: Judy Blue Eyes is actually a suite in music terms, a group of self-contained movements or musical ideas of varying character and length, usually in the same key. The title is a play on words as well, because it sounds like "sweet Judy blue eyes" a song aimed at Judy Collins as others have noted. Its a masterpiece in harmony and vocal orchestration, very much in the genre of folk-rock that was stretching the norms of music at that time.

Background. The title "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" (a play on words for "Sweet Judy Blue Eyes") refers to Stephen Stills' former girlfriend, singer/songwriter Judy Collins, and the lyrics to most of the suite's sections consist of his thoughts about her and their imminent breakup.

Stephen Stills brings the Caribbean vibe to CSN. He grew up in the south, including Louisiana, and lived in Central America. One of his greatest songs is "Go Back Home," with a super solo by Eric Clapton. "Stoner rock" is perfectly fine for their vibe!

The original album cover had a picture of a man looking through a window. It appears to be Neil Young. It is rumored that Neil played on album but did not want credit. Which is unbelievable considering CSN appeared for the first time publicly at Woodstock. Neil played with them but, according to Neil,he yold cameraman not to film him. Why? Because he did not want the camera man getting in the way. That is why he appears no where in the film about Woodstock.

Graham Nash previously played with the Hollies, Stephen Stills played in Buffalo Springfield band and David Crosby was a co-founder of the Byrds all prior to joining to together so YES they would be considered a Super Group and one of the first since all 3 had legitimate success prior to coming together. Crosby and Nash also performed together in Jefferson Starship and as a duo on some records.

I've read that Stills was trying to write a song for Judy Collins (they'd recently split), but it was coming in fits and starts. He had pieces, but they were unrelated, weren't cohesive, and didn't work as whole songs on their own. His song just wasn't coming together. Then he thought to put the disparate chunks all together as a suite, and a masterpiece was born.

Stephan Stills auditioned to be one of the Monkees. Obviously he didn't get the part. Another Dallas area guy named Michael Nesmith was picked and the rest is history. Nesmith is often credited as originating the concept of music videos broadcast 24/7 on TV channels the same way song recordings played over radio stations dedicated to the format in audio. AND, his mother invented Liquid Paper/Witeout while working as a secretary when typewriters were the machine for documentation and communication. Needless to say, she wasn't a secretary much longer after that and they were able to go to Red Lobster for dinner pretty much every night for dinner, if you know what I mean 😉🤣!

Nice reaction! I do have a question. Why do you try to put a name on their genre, folk, rock, etc.? You try and do it every reaction. The greatest musicians and groups don't limit themselves. Wherever their creativity goes, they follow. They jump categories, sometimes even in the same song. Music has only two groups to me, good or bad. And that is even personal. My "good isn't your good." I don't Yuck someone's Yum.
