Chimaira are criminally underrated. They are part of the new wave of American heavy metal. Unfortunately they struggled with lineup issues and broke up almost a decade ago. They got back together for a couple of reunion shows but I think that's it. Awesome reaction, glad you enjoyed it!

I remember seeing Chimaira for the first time opening for Slayer in 2001 and I was impressed... They had Kerry King of Slayer and Dimebag Darrell of Pantera as their early champions... and secured a spot on Ozzfest tours... It was a pity that they never got to the popularity of their peers Slipknot... Five Finger Death Punch... System of a Down... etc. Chimaira hailed from Cleveland, Ohio... their 2001 debut album 'Pass out of existence' was an extreme metal classic... w/ early tracks - 'Severed' ... 'Dead inside'... 🔥🔥🤘🤘 The band originally featured: Mark Hunter (vocals), Rob Arnold (lead guitar), Jason Hager (rhythm guitar), Jim LaMarca (bass), Chris Spicuzza (samples) and Andols Herrick (drums) Matt DeVries (guitar) replaced Jason Hager for their 2nd album 'The impossibility of reason' in 2003 ... which was a better album and more successful as a result w/ songs like - 'Pure hatred' ... 'Down again' ... 'Power trip'... Andols Herrick left the band on that tour and was eventually replaced by veteran drummer Kevin Talley for Chimaira's 3rd self-titled album in 2005... 'Salvation' was from that record w/ standout songs like - 'Nothing remains' ... 'Save ourselves'. Mark Hunter felt that the band needed a label change and drummer Andols Herrick back in Chimaira... They switched labels in 2007 for the re-energized 4th album 'Resurrection'... marking Herrick returning to the band w/ songs like 'Resurrection' ... 'Six'... 5th album 'The infection' in 2009 featured the songs - 'Destroy and dominate' ... 'Secrets of the dead'... It was followed by a live CD/DVD in 2010 - 'Coming alive'. Unfortunately, Chimaira underwent an exodus of members as they began work on their 6th album 'The age of hell' in 2011... Herrick, LaMarca & Spicuzza all quit and the album was tracked mainly by guitarist Rob Arnold... Guitarist Matt DeVries also left... and Rob Arnold quit the band following the tour. Despite charting at #54 in the US, 'The age of hell' was a disappointment. Vocalist Mark Hunter re-tooled Chimaira in 2013 w/ members of another underrated extreme metal band Daath... they released their 7th (and final) album 'Crown of phantoms'... but despite charting at #52 in the US, Chimaira was in decline. In 2014, Chimaira announced that they were breaking up... Mark Hunter was able to reunite the classic Chimaira line-up for one-off shows but not much else.

Damn, I saw "Salvation" and my instant thought was "Finally Pain of Salvation!!" But no.. 😢

I've never known what genre of metal to label chimaira as they've been around before deathcore/metalcore was a thing. The first album they released pass out of existence was a bit nu metal but then they have to thrash and groove in there sound but also heavier than that so maybe chimaira and KSE were the founders of metalcore?
