This song was written before Dimebag died so he got to hear it before his death, it was after he died that Zakk Wylde dedicated the song in his memory.

Absolute classic, by an absolute legend, for a metal god. RiP Dime, and glad we still got Zakk. Now for their sound guys, they're what you'd imagine Biker Metal to sound like. Loud, heavy, sometimes fast, smooth, kinda if you took the Black Sabbath days of sound and kept it up to date with speaker quality, amps, and vocal quality lol. Great stuff. "Fire it Up" anything off the albums Mafia or Sonic Brew.

In this River was written shortly after Dimebag passed away. It was Zakks tribute to him. Him and Dimebag were damn near inseparable when he was alive. If yall really want to see Zakks guitar skills, give a listen to anything off of the SDMF or 1919 Eternal albums

stillborn is a familiar track. another one is suicide messiah.

The guy that shot Dimebag thought Dimebag and his band were stealing his identity and writing songs about him and if anything I believe it's a powerful statement on the importance of mental health care and highlighting the need for making mental health care available for those who are in need of it.

U are correct however just days after this horrible tragic death they come out and said He (Nathan Gayle) shot and killed Dime and tried also killing Vinnie because in this crazy ass head he thought they were the reason Pantera broke up when it was all Phil. I love that band and all its members and seen them 53 times live and met Dime and Vinnie in vegas while walking thru the MGM in Vegas in 1994 one week after I seen them in my home town of Seattle i ran into them on there 2 days off in between Cali and Vegas and Dime and Vinnie stood there and talked to me and my cousin for about 15min letting us take pictures with them. They had no security or anything just walking thru the casino it was epic especially at only 15yrs old. Long live Pantera!

From what I understand of it pretty much Phil got so into his side projects like Down and Superjoint ritual and whatever else he might have been doing and just kind of left Dime and Vinnie hanging and they eventually pretty much had no choice but to move on to something else if they wanted to be active with recording and touring

Such a BEAUTIFUL song by Zack for Dimebag! I saw BLS approx 13yrs back now and when Zack did this song, I had tears falling!

Yup. Double neck guitar. One neck has 12 strings (standard guitar tuning just with a second octave to harmonize). The 6 string neck is just like a regular guitar

Man, it really sucked when Dimebag died. Still remember where I was when I heard about it. Traumatic to say the least. Cried many tears. RIP legend!

A million of us metalheads had our hearts broken when Dime was murdered.

Wow! I was definitely unaware of this song. I have a Dimebag Daryl story. A sad one. He was murdered at a place called the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, where I grew up. He was in a relatively new band called, "Damage Plan" my nephew Shaun and I were heading towards that club in separate cars from separate directions, we were late getting there, a few minutes before I got there I was listening to the radio and they said that there had been a shooting at the club. By the time I got there there were at least 20 police cars and I don't know how many police officers, and commotion on every side of the building. Most of the people from the club were outside. Shaun showed up a few minutes later. We found out pretty quickly that someone in the band was killed and a few people in the club, before a police officer shot the assailant. Of course by the next day we knew pretty much the whole story, which is a very sad one and a sad day in my life We had only just recently gotten into Damage Plan, because we both liked Pantera, of course. Anyway, this was a cool one for you guys to do, RIP, Dimebag. The story around town the days after his murder and also the stories in the media, were that the shooter was angry at Dimebag for leaving pantera. He was ex-military and had some mental issues. It's never become totally clear what the whole story was. But it is just such a soul crushing thing. I'm happy I saw this today and almost wish I didn't.

Rivers can be half salty, called “brackish water” because of the tides pushing the salt water up river a bit. Also check out what Zakk Wylde looked like when he first joined Ozzy. He was skinny as a rail and had “beautiful” hair. You wouldn’t recognize him at all. He grew a beard, started riding Harley’s and got all buff.

This is actually not too far from their usual sound. They did catch some flak for this song. Some people believed it was Zakk capitalizing on Dimebag's death. I don't think so though. Zakk is a musician, how else would he pay tribute? The dudes too damned old to be learning anything new. Damn. Anyway if you liked what you heard you might check out stillborn, or for something heavier try counterfeit god. Or you could always check out more Devin Townsend. Lol whatever you want. Either way you choose always go with a live version. Both men are masters of their craft. Nothing is lost from the recording and you get to see all the extra improvisation and crowd interaction. Zakk's improv riffs are the stuff of legend! And Devy, well I think you already know about him. Lol.

This "official" video gives a glimpse into Zakk and Dime's BFF relationship.They actually met in their adulthood. Being part of the Trash Talkers family,I HIGHLY recommend reacting to the Live version of this song(which will always be in the BLS set list)from "Doom Troopin'/European Invasion". My son was murdered on March 8, 2007 at the age of 21. I had this song played at his memorial service. It's hard to watch, but yet it reminds me so much of my boy. Taken before his time.

One of those songs that makes me tear up any and every time I hear it. Rest In Peace Dime. Much love.

I love their album 'Catacombs of the Black Vatican', songs like Fields of Unforgiveness, My Dying Time, Beyond the Down, I've Gone Away and Shades of Gray. Great band. This song just makes me think about Dimebag. Man, what a loss.

The guy was insane after the split of Pantera. At the time, Dime was on stage performing with his new band Damage Plan, along with his brother and Pantera Drummer Vinnie Paul. The guy wanted to kill them both and killed a bunch of other people in club too. Not sure if it was intentionally on the anniversary of John Lennon's murder or just coincidence

Yes Nathan Gale suffered from schizophrenia and he blamed that bag Darrell and Vinny Abbet for the downfall of Pantera and thought if he can no longer enjoy Pantera then these two guys shouldn’t be able to enjoy their life

Yep. My nephew and I were there at the club the night Dimebag was murdered. We never made it inside, we were late getting there. By the time we got there almost all of the people from inside were outside and the police had already killed the shooter.

A R . I really understand. It was such a terrible night for me and my nephew. So I will share with you another unique and special story. My nephew, Shaun Snow, After that massacre, they were closed for a couple of months. The first person to ever step on stage in that spot where Dimebag was murdered, was my nephew, Shaun Snow... The story is much too long to tell, but suffice it to say that we had put together another band, after all of my years as a front man, I was behind scenes. The band my nephew was in, called, *Cadence" was the first band to play in the club several months after those murders. He stood in the same spot that Dimebag was killed when the club opened up for the first night after those terrible murders. He is now in a band with Matt Mcjunkins, (A Perfect Circle) Michael Levine, (Falling In Reverse) and ("Gino Bambino) Novallo, called, "Solaria" be watching for Solaria and their first single release, "the key to life" Coming out in the next few weeks. I would probably have to write an article to explain it all to you. Anyway, watch out for a band called solaria, and then you can comment back to me and I will keep you informed from behind the scenes. Be well and be safe, my friend.

Such an iconic song you should check out the live version and see the passion coming from Zack it’s has some of the greatest guitar solos I’ve seen in metal

He sounds like this on his quieter material. He released Pride & Glory back in '94 which was more of a heavy Skynyrd type of band, and he has two solo acoustic records. Black Label Society is typically heavier than this.

BLS music ranges from what you heard to very heavy.... Zakk uses the piano for several songs and acoustic as well.. Zakk was also the lead guitarist for Ozzy from 1988 to 2007 and still fills in on tour every now and then. Zakk started his solo career in 1994 with Pride and Glory and started Black Label Society in 1999. Zakk has worked on 27 albums. Next you should try "Stillborn" (feat. Ozzy Osbourne) . Other BLS: "Crazy Horse" "Godspeed Hell Bound" "Bleed for Me" "Fire It Up"... Pride and Glory: "Lovin' Woman" "Losin' Your Mind" "Found a Friend" Good luck on the Zak rabbit hole.

He was a crazed fan that was angry about the dissolution of Pantera. He had been previously diagnosed with bipolar and a lot of other mental shit. He was a former Marine as well. He killed Dime and a few other people in the audience. He was eventually shot dead by a cop who reported to the scene. Great reaction by the way and y’all earned yourselves a new subscriber.

Zakk wrote this song before Dime passed. Every concert Zakk plays he includes this song in his set. Great performer and greater human being.

I am kind of surprised that no one has said this, but Zakk was the permanent replacement for Randy Rhodes in OZZY's band after Randy tragically died....in some instances Zakk even plays Randy's polka dot guitar....RIP Randy and RIP Dime

Zack wylde is the next gen Randy Rhodes. He started in Ozzy Osbourne...mostly known for his guitar work in No More Tears. Hes done other stuff as well but Black Label Society is his baby. It's a new twist to southern metal trash metal... also know as biker music

Something to note, BLS will ALWAYS include this song in every single show they perform at. This is one metal group that I never miss when they come to Utah, excited for this fall to see them again! Anyway, always enjoy "RR", keep up the good work... oh ya, seeing The Hu this fall for the first time, great review on their music!

The day I found out Dime was killed, I literally curled up in a fetal position and cried. I never met Dime, but it hurt that much. My best friend took his life several months ago, and now this song has new emotions for me. I regret not seeing Damageplan 2 months before Dime was killed. And I regret not seeing my best friend for 5 years. We'd talk daily, but not face to face. And I miss him every day... 😒

One part people might not understand is the visuals are the river Styx and Charon references. The strange looking people are the souls of those who could not pay the fee or bodies were never buried.

Ozzy had some of the most legendary guitarists to ever walk the planet work with him. Zakk is definitely one of them. My absolute favorite though is Jake E. Lee. I saw him live with his band Badlands way back in the day and I swear to you I’ve never seen another guitarist able to shred on a guitar like this guy. I was absolutely blown away. There are some crazy stories that the guys in Motley Crue tell about the things Ozzy has snorted and drank in their book The Dirt too. I don’t want to tell you because honestly, you should just read the book. I finished it in about a day and a half because I couldn’t put it down. It is that good! ✌️

When I saw Rock Star back in 2001 BEFORE I noticed Zack's face I saw his arm tatt's and I was "Hey Zack Wyld!!!!" A little known trivia fact, Myles Kennedy appears in Rock Star near the end as "Thor" :) And YES Ozzy WAS buying roids off of Zack and HOW he got the gig with Ozzy lol, that's a FACT according to Zack on Wiki's Fact or Fiction lol

Ozzy also booted Zack out of the band after he came back from doing BLS work.... Ozzy said he loved him to death BUT his playing in the sessions sounded like BLS and Ozzy DIDN'T want that sound, so out went Zack lol

Song always makes me think of my grandad who passed away a few years ago. Another BLS song kind of on the same level as this one you could check out is "Scars", pretty deep. Otherwise, check out "Stillborn" or "Suicide Messiah" pretty good head banger jams

It's loosely based on judist priest. Any way my point is Zack is one of the guitar players in the band in the movie. Yes he's talking about dime bag it's a tribute to him. Theres a book you can get called "a vulger display of power, courage and carnage at the alarosa villa". it describes to a T of what happened to dimebag and 4 others at the show. coming an hour away from where it happened and a town away from where the killer lived its a very sad story for us ohio metalheads.

Zack is joking about the steroid thing. He met Ozzy and started playing for him when he was 19 years old. I absolutely adore Zakk! He's one of the nicest, most genuine people you could meet.

Saw Black Label play a small piss ant town music festival in Western Australia, they had maybe 1000 people in the audience and absolutely destroyed...they seemed to revel in the smaller crowd, was a much more personal performance and never missed a note, absolute pro's.

If you saw what Zakk looked like when he joined Ozzy, you would laugh about that steroids rumor. Zakk looked like a skinny teenage girl then, especially compared to what he looks like now. Check out the videos of Miracle Man or Crazy Babies to see what Zakk looked like back then (1988).

I was lucky enough to party with Dimebag a couple of times. Most of Pantera were pretty cool, but got a bit shitty with fans as time went on. Dimebag seemed to treat everyone around as equals or as a friend. I only saw them from a bouncer/ fan perspective, but from my interactions, cool as fuck.

Zakk is cool as all hell. DO NOT try to keep up drinking with him, ever. BLS will get you drinking Jack Daniels and wanting to throw down like a champ though.

This is their later sound Black Label Society were heaver on their earlier albums and mellowed out a lot on their later albums.

One more thing, you would be well advised to do a reaction or two from, Damage Plan. Also another band around at the exact same time also connected to Pantera and Darrell, called "Down" Also, on zakk wylde's solo record after he left Ozzy, the drummer from my band at the time, "Alien Fame" who's name is Jason Mitchell, did the drums on five of the songs on that record.

Dude that shot him blamed dime for pantera breaking up. He was a vet that just got home and obviously had some other problems

There's footage of the shooting. It's from a camera pointed at the audience so you don't see the shooting thankfully. But you can hear it.
