Thanks so much patrons!
I mention a few of my videos in this, you can find nicely organized links to everything at my website: calderhannan.com
Martin Clayton's book is called Time In Indian Music (and oops, it's about North Indian music, I might be completely off base about what I was saying about South Indian music).

Life can get hard and test all of us. Just remember that we're owed nothing but appreciate everything you do! Hang in there man.

Love these deep dives man, super fascinating to try and grasp this level of technicality. Don't sweat the gaps in releasing content, you're invested in academia which is always appreciated and respected as much as your work on this platform educating and enlightening us-- just make sure you do take some time here and there to prevent burnout as assignments permit. Sidebar-- who's stoked for the new Ingurgitating Oblivion album?? Going to be awesome.

This is somehow the first I've heard about a new Ingurgitating Oblivion album, but holy shit, can't wait to hear that!

The crazy bands I've never heard of are the best part of this series and Taupe is a great find, sax and noise rock always works. Also appreciate the bonus Trauma Triad shoutout, went to check out one track and accidentally listened to the entire album.

Man thanks so much for doing my request! I was hoping to just get Taupe's name out there a bit, since they're pretty much virtually unknown even in underground circles, but you've enhanced my enjoyment of that song tenfold.

I've ordered that Martin Clayton book! Thanks for the tip - I enjoyed your walkthrough of the section and highlighting the different elements that make it appealing. To echo some other commenters, don't overwork yourself - I know how time consuming it can be to make good videos, and you need to keep on top of a whole real life too! Keep kicking butt, but on your own schedule my man 💪

Hah, glad you enjoyed the Vildhjarta clip! And no worries, I enjoyed the analysis! I feel like they have established a notable trend of pairing really interesting juxtaposed atmospheres in their teaser clip imagery, videos, associated artwork, etc as they relate to the music you are hearing. I still see the imagery of the awkwardly looping wolf howling clip, or the fashion model walking down the street with jagged jump cuts, or the skull with smoke from their teaser videos over the past years when I hear those specific sections on the new album. They have an apparent skill there at making a memorable/unusual audio/visual imprint that I'm really happy to hear someone talk about. But yeah I have no idea what is going on in it structurally. When I was wondering if it was an isorhythm, I'm referring to the rhythmic repetition that takes place over the scale of each 8 (I think it's 8) measure chunk of the music. It sounds like at least some of the high and low notes flip in polarity on the second repeat of the chunk (in terms of when inside the pattern they are played), and then back and forth again by the end. Or for all I know the riff is just randomly played differently each time through, and I might just be misappropriately using the term. Listening to it tonight, I think maybe it's just the first chunk of bendy notes in each 8 measure repetition being varied in consecutive repetitions, creating a sense of unease about where the riff begins tonally? I don't know, I guess that's why it's so enjoyable, the fact that it's hard to wrap your head around it entirely from a surface level listen. Looking forward to the transcript/video either way! I have also become unreasonably obsessed with this clip.
