joke doesn't actually have a specific meaning, yeah it's just "JOKE". he made this song "Joke" because many haters, especially underground rappers, said RM and SUGA could not rap fast because they had become "Idols".Here he shows he can make rap sound good with just meaningless words like other rappers. Can only fast rap with meaningless lyrics. In this song he shows various types of flow and it is true that the name Rap Monster at that time was not meaningless.

RM is the erudite professor who can either rage at stupidity or calmly explain to you why you’re chickenshit (“Do You”). Suga is the artist who paints portraits with melodies, flows and beats. He pulls emotions that you forgot you could feel. JHope is the sun. He raps like pure energy, fills your soul with peace, then every now and then, he reminds you that the sun is a sustained nuclear reaction. On another note, is that a composite of Bob Marley photos behind you? 100 points for being awesome!

Most people like to think they're open-minded, but then they see 'asian boyband with young female fans' and their mind closes in a split second before they even realised. I keep seeing reactors say "why didn't anyone tell me they were this good?" and it's like... we've BEEN telling you!!! I've been shouting from the rooftops since 2014!! But you didn't listen because you didn't think our opinions were worth taking seriously. There are so many reasons I'm happy for BTS' success, but one thing I really love is how their sheer talent is forcing people to open their eyes and examine prejudices they didn't realise they had.

To give you a little background. He released this mixtape - “RM” when he was still going by Rap Monster. He went into Korean underground rap stage at age of 15. Korean hip-hop stage treated him like a prince, the most respected rappers had been inviting him to features when he was barely a teenager. He went to BTS for rap, BTS was supposed to be a group of rappers. Other rappers fled when it started becoming an idol group, Namjoon stayed. When he debuted he got a LOT of trash from k-hh scene, claiming he sold himself, he is wearing make up like a girl and other bullshit. This mixtape was his first and “Joke” and “Do You” both highlight tracks address the lawsers claiming he ain’t hip-hop anymore. Similar thing with BTS Cyphers. Please react to them too

The "bibidy bobidy" mumble part, RM is actually mimicking his haters who tells him that he is just mumble rapping. Also his way to prove them that even tho he is indeed mumbling nonsense words, it makes sick flows and impact. Lastly the "HIT ME" is him challenging his haters (esp those in the industry mocking him) to respond to him in rap. And NO ONE EVER RESPONDED.

One of my favorite RM stories is how when he was still an underground rapper (around 15 years old), the other rappers were scared to go up against him even though they were older. There's even a screenshot of a forum post where one fan asked one of the rappers what it felt like to battle RM and he said that even as he was cursing at him, he felt terrified. If you're looking for a recommendation for a song with all the members, I suggest Born Singer.

The beat was originally "Oh My Darling" by Run The Jewels! This song is from RM's first mixtape where all but three of the songs (the first and last songs on the tracklist, and a collab he did with Krizz Kaliko) used instrumentals from other hip hop songs (including two J. Cole songs!). It's so cool that for his first solo project (the first out of any of the members to do one, in fact), he decided to pay so much homage to the genre that he loves! And if you were interested in the J. Cole beats, they're "Monster", which uses "Grown Simba" (and he even references that in the lyrics) and "God Rap", which uses "God's Gift"

The rap line is a gem. RM has two mixtapes (called RM and MONO) and a few months ago he released his album Indigo (soloist), where he collaborated with other artists, as he himself said, it is the last file of his 20. Suga has two Mixtapes as Agust D (Agust D and D2), J-Hope has a mixtape (Hope World) and released his album Jack in the Box last year. Each of the boys will release a solo album before they go to military service (military service is compulsory in Korea for men), the first to leave was Jin, he is the oldest in the group (he left in December of last year) he only managed to leave us a beautiful farewell song "The Astronaut", he sang it for the first time in Argentina in Coldplay's concert (it was the last time he sing in front of an audience until soon), and J-hope will be leaving soon... BTS has an extensive and varied discography, in fact last year they released their anthology album Proof, which is a compilation of their career years. You could see the video: BTS ROOM LIVE FESTA 2021, it is a small compilation of their discography and they sing live. Thanks for your sincerity.

He's basically saying that they rap nonsense with the bibadi babadi nimini nakami😂 10 flow switches too! The hit me at the end was a challenge that so far no one has responded to. 😂🎉 I am OT7 all the way there's no way for me to have 1 bias they make it too hard! Also if you want to check out vocal line I HIGHLY recommend House of Cards and The Truth Untold they really showcase all of them together. Solo wise I suggest Jimin- Lie or Filter JK- My Time and Euphoria Jin- Epiphany and Moon V- Stigma and Singularity If you haven't yet you should react to their song Hip Hop Phile or also known as Hip Hop Lover where they shout out their influences in the industry they really are true students of the craft!

My friend, you understood the assignment. BTS's music is a genre all by itself. It busts, slaps, tells a story, has a message, references their musical roots, pays homage to the OGs, and honors the craft. The music will have you holding your breath. You may shake, rattle and roll,. You may have to get up and walk it out, drink some water, push away from the table, check with a trusted other that you're not dreaming this stuff up. and wait to exhale. This is normal (don't worry, your nice. Keep going-in Jimin's voice). They take their work seriously, LOVE their fans (ARMY loves them back), the're all for one (OT7). They are funny, loveable and most of all, humble. That's all for now but I think you get the pucture. The tumble down the rabbit hole is just beginning. Happy travels. G G.

This song compared to Daechwita really shows the difference in how Yoongi (Agust D/Suga) and Namjoon (RM, previously called Rap Monster, which he doesn't like anymore. RM stands for "Real Me") will speak on the subject. Yoongi's words cut and are impactful, like a knife: he is direct and will tell you how it is. Namjoon is more like a growing ache: subtle and uses complex wordplay, metaphors, references, you won't fully know what he's really saying until you actively think about it. But both truly know what hip hop and rap are all about: flow, beat, wordplay and meaning. They both know being fast isn't what's impressive. The control they have over their voice, their words and their flow is absolutely incredible. You can clearly see their underground rapper background in their understanding of rap. Namjoon's old underground rapper name Runch Runda when he was only like 16? There's old comments on websites that show underground rapper talking about how incredible "Runch Randa" was, and he was only a kid. As for Hoseok (j-hope), his background is a little different but you can clearly tell that he was taught about rap through these two and really understands the depth of it. His background as an underground dancer really helps. He was also in the hip hop scene. And truly the way he raps is so incredibly unique. Some people have rightfully described it as "he dances his words". His background as a dancer really shows through his rap. He raps like he dances, following the flow of the music like a dancer would instead of how a rapper would. And it makes his rap truly amazing.

As others have said, this song was a response to the Korean hiphop community mocking RM because he became an idol rapper and saying he didn't have rap skills because he often didn't choose to rap fast (he focused on poetry, lyrics, and wordplay) -- so this entire video was a tongue-in-cheek response proving he can show any skills they want (fast rapping, flow switches, etc.) whilst mocking their nonsense and shallow rapping. He said he wanted to turn his haters into fans ("want your hands at a concert) and he said "Hit me" to invite anyone to come back to him. No one did.

That’s why the title is ‘Joke.’ There’s nothing hidden in the lyrics, and the song is 500% for the auditory pleasure. I felt a necessity of a song that refreshes the mood without any particular meaning since I’ve included messages and sentiments in other songs. There is an artist on artist interview that Rolling Stone did recently between RM and Pharrell. It’s one of the most honest conversations I’ve ever seen published between two musicians (Pharrell says at one point that RM asks him something he’s never been asked before). I think you’d enjoy seeing it to understand a bit inside RM’s head with how he feels about his place in the music industry (and also where a legend like Pharrell sees him and BTS). If you wanted to react to it, people would enjoy it, but even if you don’t react to it you would enjoy watching it on your own time. RM was chosen by the music company. They asked him did he want to be solo or have a group formed around him. He decided to have a group instead of solo...and he became the Leader of the group. There would be no BTS if it wasn't for him. He is the middle member in age but he is the leader and father figure of all 7 members. Suga was hired next as the music producer but ended up getting talked into rapping and dancing too. He was already a rapper on the Korean underground rap scene and went by the name Gloss at the time. Now he's Suga with BTS and Agust D in his solo rapping career. Because of the clean like image BTS has they save their hard stuff for their solo Image. The 3rd rapper Jhope was a street dancer and won national awards for his hip hop dancing. He became a rapper after joining BTS and brings his love into his rap style. He's the most fun to watch while he raps because he owns the stage. All 3 rappers have their own unique styles and flow together nicely on their cyphers. It's hard to have a bias , indeed.

You are so right, it is very hard to pick a bias. From the beginning RM has been my bias, and not just one, but the other six members are my bias wreckers. The duallity of this man is so amazing, when this elegant, soft-spoken man turns into this fire spitting dragon. Your reaction was fun and made me laugh

This beat is originally "Oh My Darling Don't Cry" by Run The Jewels. This is from his first mixtape back in 2015 and at the time he was receiving a lot of hate for being a rapper in an idol group, along with Suga (August D) and J- Hope. BTS was originally supposed to be a hip hop group and then changed to an idol group, and he lost a lot of respect from the hip hop community. Idol groups, at the time, were looked down upon by other genres that aren't pop, being told that the music, dress style, dancing, etc was feminine. He was constantly ridiculed for wearing makeup onstage or in music videos and there were many who told him that he wasn't a real rapper, that hiphop and idol groups didn't go together. So he made this song to basically prove a point that he in fact was a real rapper and could rap faster and better than any of those who were criticizing him. Whether he was in a hip hop group, an idol group or a soloist, he was a better rapper than any of the haters. Especially because RM is all about substance in his music while others rap with no meaning.

Funny thing is, this wasn't even about the lyrics. This was a clap back at the rappers in Korea envious of his success, proving that he can still out-battle/speed rap them. Oh, yeah, if this is him just messing around, you can imagine what it's like when he REALLY puts his all into it. BTW, with BTS it's impossible to just pick one as a bias. I adore Suga and Jimin and Jhope, but I am here for all 7 of them, they are one unit, one team and they will make you love all of them. 😉💜💜💜 Borahae. PS: I subscribed.

Back then RM got comments from underground artists that he's not a rapper and he can't keep the flow. Dude basically made a song "Joke" to make fun of his haters, proving he can rap to any flow (the rap's speed gets faster as song progresses). And there is a line that basically sums the whole song up: "this is a meaningless wordplay". RM basically just made a song in a style that many rappers at the time made songs - without any deep meaning. So he's in a way proving - no matter what lyrics I write, I'm still better than y'all haters.

the thing is he proved his speed and stylistic rapping but at the same time this song is actually filled with word play. the genius in this track is that he can do both "cool" rap yet always with substance. it's satirical. it's not meaningless word play only.

Joon’s evolution is amazing to see. He has the beast inside him and only fools forget that. Snoop was talking about Eminem and commenting on how people forget that he’s still who he is, and they like to poke the bear. That’s how I think of Joon (RM) He’s matured - but don’t wake that bear up - because he will decimate you.

Thank you for appreciating them. It reminded me about the time when Namjoon (RM) told in a show that they did these songs out of love for hip hop but hip hop fans looked down on them because they are idols that do hip hop. And the idol fans looked down on the for doing hip hop when they are idols. He also said there that if people will just listen without prejudice, they will understand their music.

You should definitely check the color coded videos for Cyphers 1,2,3 & 4, which are songs made by the rapline where they constantly switch flows, play with words in a very creative way. These songs were made as an “answer” to their haters, to rappers that said they could not be rappers because they were idols, to people who judged them simply for being a boygroup, wearing makeup etc, lots of things going on on each of these cyphers and it’s worth listening to all of them. They end with cypher 4 with lyrics such as “I love myself, Ya, playa, haters, you should love yourself” 😏😎

Joke is insane 🔥🔥 In this song Namjoon is mocking the people that call themselves “rappers” when they aren’t real ones. It is well known that he, as well as Yoongi (Suga), was an underground artist and that he was being looked down at because he became famous as an idol rather than pursuing a career as a rapper. I think that this song is a way for him to tell them that no matter what path he took and how people perceive him as an idol, he is still a rapper and he has the skills that they don’t. He basically laughs at them and at how pathetic they are, pointing out how different their leagues are and making them feel insignificant. He even brags about how writing the lyrics took him just a short time and that it is easy for him to do so. He raps his lines with such ease and skills. Some lines are incredibly genius if get the sarcasm and you analyze all the references and some lines don’t make that much sense, but since he is laughing at them, it does make sense in the end. It isn’t a regular dissing song: it is truly like a joke to him. They are a joke, his situation is a joke and writing this track feels like a joke too. I just love so much how he laughs at them for writing meaningless lyrics about overused topics and stereotypes while he kind of does in this song as a Joke. Like come on, RM killed it. 🔥🔥

i only see one comment listing it, but let me put you on: Hip Hop Phile is an amazing song for people who know their rap history. enough said: as someone who seems really into beats, lyrics, and american rappers, this is the one song that you need to understand where each member of the rap line gets their influence from, they name them all. its really wonderful. technically would be your first song with all 7 members on it because the singers have the chorus, and honestly not a bad intro to them too :)

They are all completely unique individually and together they make the Avengers of music LMAOO I can't wait for you to check out the vocal line and get into their group stuff as well. I definitely suggest ON: Kinetic Manifesto Film, Black Swan, and RUN Bts (with the dance practice and live performance). They will blow you AWAY with their dancing trust me!!

RM or Namjoon, which is his real name, is also the kindest, most tender man in the world. He is quiet and calm and so introspective. He's outer tree hugger, our art enthusiast, our gentle leader. He has wrestled with his rage and is learning to love himself despite all the criticism. His new album Indigo shows his range and growth. It's TOTALLY different from Joke but an absolute blessing. 10 songs, 10 genres and a masterpiece!!

After I fell down the rabbit hole, I told everyone how amazing they are. You can’t have a Bias without Wreckers. V is my Bias, but they all wreck me.
