Just wanna add something. For context these songs came about the time where BTS were getting so much hate from all around and to top it off the rap line specifically where getting so much shit for joining an "Idol" group (which is what they call a boy band) that some of the peers they had way back when they were underground rappers told Suga and RM to their face that they betrayed HipHop or some sht like that. There was a part where Suga said " You better be glad that I'm an Idol" and thet should have because if BTS continued being underground and still managed to get the same amount of following and the money to have this kind of production I tell you them aholes wouldnt have any face to show - not that they have any today considering that the one who talked smack against RM and Suga back then is still hated on by so many.

to add onto this they also dissed the idol culture & basically told rm & suga that not only they were selling out but that they were “effeminate” basically called them gay in a derogatory way bc all idols wear makeup & that those things were “not hiphop” bc they were “gay.” kind of explains the sexual innuendos towards them in my opinion. there’s a video of this exchange mentioned by OP & i, if you ever want to feel not only frustration but also laugh at how foolish these nobodies were, i’d say check it out.

to add EVEN more to this, this is why in a lot of RM and Suga's early works, they're specifically calling out other rappers and telling them to stfu. RM in particular has talked about how comments like those made him feel like he had to prove that he was a real rapper but you can really feel in his later works how he's realized he doesnt need to prove that anymore cuz his work speaks for itself. "Do You" on RM's first mixtape touches on this subject if you wanna check it out. I also recommend Cypher Pt 2 (which i'm sure you've gotten tons of requests for already lmao) cuz it was specifically made in response to the situation mentioned by the comment above me

Fun fact. The king in Daewitcha is a representation of past Agust D, which is this one. (Notice how both have the blonde hair.) Here he is younger and has the ambitions of reaching Billboard and Grammys. But now that he has actually reached that level, he sees that its not as valuable as he thought it would be. And that its actually harder now that he got to this level. So Daewitcha is about that struggle in himself and his past self. But man do we LOVE past Agust D!

I'm sure you've noticed it by now, but all the three rappers of BTS bring their own unique fire to their songs. Jhope usually brings a great rhythm and incredible vibes, with a swagger and cadence, Suga/Agust D is about bringing the fire by rapping fast and without holding any punches, and RM is all about lyrical rhymes, wordplay and a deeper meaning. It's impossible to compare the three because what they do isn't the same. However I think it's also worth pointing out that earlier in their careers (2013-2016ish) they were still trying hard to prove themselves that they belong in the industry and are worthy artists, so a lot of their stuff is a lot harsher and grittier. Once they got to a certain level (of fame, popularity, maturity, success, whatever you wanna call it), they were able to take a step back, drop their angry and hungry facade and make music that was more true to their older selves. So I'd keep that in mind when I listened to some of their songs - if it's an older song, like Joke, or AGUST D, or some of the earlier Cyphers, they were in a very different mindset than they are now. The Agust D that did AGUST D is very different from the Agust D that did Daechwita (if you look carefully at the Daechwita MV, the king has white hair like the Agust D here. Suga spoke about how he was killing off the old Agust D, and letting the new version of him reign supreme - that's why he pulled out the gun at the end and shot). The RM that did Do You is a very different RM than the one that did Wildflower! Anyways, take all the time that you need to enjoy every song that you experience, and don't worry about pausing! Do what you gotta do!! Peace and love💜

I'm not sure how much you know about YoonGi/Suga/AugstD....but as you liked his MV then the following info might be of interest to you. He is a respected producer in Korea currently and had won awards for his producing of other artists songs. Suga/Agust D began writing music lyrics and working with MIDI at age 11 and held a part-time job composing and arranging music at a recording studio at age 16. Active under the name "Gloss" (wordplay on his name YoonGi, which means "to shine") as an underground rapper, He originally entered Big Hit Entertainment as a producer at age 17 in 2010, but was convinced to become a part of a new group (he was told he wouldn't have to dance!! LOL) as a rapper alongside members J-Hope and RM before making his debut as a member of BTS in 2013. In the initial years of his career in BTS, both he and his fellow group member RM faced criticism from the South Korean underground hip hop scene for "selling out" and becoming K-pop idols. Between his commitments as a member of BTS, Suga/Agust D took advantage of time on the plane and in hotel rooms after concerts to continuously produce and compose music. In an interview for Grazia Korea, Suga/Agust D expressed a desire to release the music he wanted to do without having to consider popular appeal or music ranking. He intended to release his music for free in the form of a mixtape to avoid such considerations, commenting that an album "has a feeling of being trapped in some sort of framework" due to the need for company involvement in promotion and advertising. Developing Agust D musically on the base of hip hop, much of Agust D's inspiration for the lyrics came from his own stories of dream, youth, and reality. In order to differentiate his work from that of his work as Suga, he developed the alter ego "Agust D".

Like the reporter asking them on a panel about plagiarism years ago. Rm was furious but Suga stepped in calmly and shut that reporter up. Hottest thing I saw in a long time. That man has iron control. Also I never seen RM that mad . He was triggered .

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but the name Agust D comes from his stage name "Suga" + D-T (which stands for Daegu Town, (Daegu = Yoongi's hometown, which is a relatively conservative part of korea) which is what his rap group was called before he moved to Seoul to join Bighit as a trainee for BTS) backwards. Baepsae (also known as 'Crow-tit' or 'Silver Spoon') is another great song that is very rap heavy but amazing! It's full of triple meanings and will probably require a guide to understanding the lyrics (the name itself comes from the Korean saying which goes like "the baepsae breaks it's legs trying to be like the stork" in which the baepsae (or crow-tit - it's a type of small bird with small legs) tries too much to be something it's not (the stork - which has long legs) and ends up hurting itself. - it's a very 'Okay Boomer' like song tbh lol) Ma City is another rapper heavy song as well that's really fun and is full of Hobi, Yoongi and Namjoon's personal experiences growing up in their respective hometowns - both of them include the vocal line as well, but they are there mostly for the chorus, a lot like Hiphophile. (Fun fact about Ma City and BTS as a whole - aside from two members (Jin and RM) the rest are from parts outside of Seoul; J-Hope from Gwangju, Suga and V from Daegu and Jimin and Jungkook from Busan. When they came to Seoul, the boys all had to adjust to speaking in standard Korean, as the provinces they came from (Hobi from Jeolla-do and the rest from Gyeongsang-do) have their own dialects they speak in (think of it like an accent) It's previously thought to be unsophisticated to speak with a satoori (the Korean word for dialect) but BTS have put out two songs in which they use their dialect within the song ('Paldogangsan' - another rapline song, and 'Where You From' which has all 7 of them) and made what used to be seen as cringey as cool. Ma City talks a lot about their hometowns and is basically them bragging about how they're not ashamed of their roots, even if other Koreans might see them as 'country bumpkins' For future reference, the blog doolset does an excellent job of explaining double and triple meanings native Koreans might not get in their lyrics they post! What some of the lyrics mean: • “too far from the sugar” - his stage name in BTS is Suga, which he flipped backwards and added, backwards “DT” to make “aguS T D”. The name Suga came from the first syllables of “Shoo-ting Gua-rd” - his position on his basketball team, but people inevitably compared his name to Sugar • “to be honest Ssaihanuwar is embarrassing now I sell half a million a year” - “Ssaihanuwar” was a diss track he made in 2013 in which he boasted about selling 30,000 copies of their debut album, so it’s “embarrassing” because now they sell so much more • “I’m d-boy because I’m from D” - Agust D mentions this a lot in his raps and it’s where the “DT” in his name comes in - it stands for “Daegu Town”, or just Daegu, his hometown. Koreans are very prideful of the regions they come from and have many regional dialects (called satoori). Yoongi has always been very proud of his humble background and reps his hometown and beginnings in many of his songs. • “All you fried (druggie) rappers should be thankful for I am an idol” - as part of a kpop group, rather than being a rapper on the Korean hip hop scene he is a Korean idol (part of the kpop industry, where groups are debuted and promote on music shows). The BTS rappers have always received criticism from the Korean hip hop scene for being so-called “idol rappers” or “fake rappers” and Suga and RM received hate for “abandoning” underground rap. So here he’s saying “be happy that I’m an idol and we aren’t running the same race because if I was still part of hip hop I would destroy you.” • note about the “tongue technology” line in the chorus - the literal translation is “my tongue technology takes you to Hong Kong with my rap”. The Korean expression “take you to Hong Kong” means “make you orgasm”, so he’s saying his rap skills make you c*m pretty much haha.

I think one thing to remember about this song is that he references specific things that people told him, or judged him, or made fun of him for when he was just starting. The judgement he and RM faced when they decided to purse hip hop as idols within the Korean rap community was crazy. So the sugar line literally references when people purposely mispronounced his stage name SUGA.

Pause as much as you need to!! Watched this with a massive smile on my face. I am a massive Agust D, Suga and Yoongi lover.He is so talented lyrically and musically.

The "From the D" is his hometown Daegu South Korea. Hes always been very proud of his hometown and mentions it in other songs aswell. And the D in Agust D stands for Daegu. He has always used his music to express all his emotions, and thoughts and than in reality he is one of the sweetest people you could meet and does everything he can for BTS. Currently he is one of the most sought out producers in South Korea and has won awards for his production skills.

I agree Yoongi is a wild card and that's why I cannot wait for his new album to drop because the one thing I know for sure is that nobody knows for sure what to expect. I hope he creates a whole new genre that blows our gd minds.

As a ARMY of 9 years, I can say I can easily sit through Agust D songs. But that’s because I’m used to them, his flow. But I also adore the songs so so so much, because this was the years where BTS got so much hate. And BTS has been through their shit. They started out barely anyone to support them, they could barely afford food. Suga also has had his hardships. This song was a release of anger, parents didn’t support him as much and such. There is more under the iceberg. BTS saved so many of us ARMY, and we saved em. And I adore your reaction. Absolutely. Thank you for taking your time to read the lyrics, understand em and taking in his talent. As said, “Agust D doesn’t need oxygen, oxygen needs Agust D.” and that is absolutely facts!

Suga is a producer so he created his beats. He's also received an award in the past for producer of the year. He's produced tracks for multiple artists. And yes... jhope creates his own beats. He's a perfectionist, so he produces his own music videos as well. Another one I recommend is RM's track Do You. He was really young but it hits. And when you get to the Cyphers... Suga hits 114 syllabals in 17 seconds. Fastest rapper in Korea. Looking forward to your reactions to those. I soooo appreciate you for this. So many people have the wrong perception of "KPop". On his last livestream, Yoongi played guitar and sang. He's been taking vocal lessons and dance lessons. He is indeed a wild card: he's earned the luxury of doing anything he wants, so all bets are off for his upcoming tour. No one knows what he'll do. He's already proven that he can take a stage and set it on fire with his rap (and there's no way he'll do an arena show and not rap at all) but what else can he do? He just turned 30, so it seems like that's the question he's asking himself now. And it may be that Yoongi can do anything: it's just a matter of him trying it.

IF you react to them all together PLEASE start with Black swan. I think it demonstrates their ability and the rap line’s insane lyricism. It’s a almost ballad like piece that talks about an artist who loses their passion for their art. It’s one of their most important and beautiful works. Back because I love this so much. Your understanding of the rappers is great. Min Yoongi (Agust D/Suga) is funny because his AgustD stuff is really hard, but he also does everything. He also does collabs as Suga, he even did a collab with Psy (yes -Gangnam Style Psy) and co wrote/produced the song. It's called That That and is hilarious, was a massive hit in South Korea. Basically, Min Yoongi just does whatever he wants and can do it all.

I love how you describe each of the rappers! BTS know what they have with ARMY. When they didn't win their first Grammy nomination in 2021, they went live to tell ARMY that they were fine with not winning. RM said that they have us and that means they have everything. Something along that line. Suga produced this song himself. He's an amazing and versatile producer. Now that you've seen him clapping back at haters, I think you should see how raw he can be when talking about personal struggles. "The Last" is a very emotional song about his fight with depression and social anxiety.

Since you did this one, I'd recommend "Give it to me" for your next Agust D reaction since the MVs are connected. I totally get your need to pause, process, get excited, replay the same part, get more excited, pick apart the lines and get excited. I was the same and lots of ARMY did the same in the beginning. Lots of people forget that stage of learning about BTS and have come to simply expect their brilliance without the excitement. I never want to get to that point where I lose my hype for amazing music and I'm glad you're not listening to those who try to dictate your journey. Suga is my bias of all time. And I think its cuz no one can match how aggressive and gritty and raspy his rapstyle is especially when he talk his shit and shits on those rappers that disrespected or tried to ruin them. His tone and cadence always impresses me and Im happy a lot of people appreciate it more and more. He's a damn savage genius. (Coming from an ARMY since 2014) Id put it as: RM - A rap genius, lyrically and melodically genius. Has so much brains in his compositions and lyrics and structure. He's definitely the biggest student of hiphop and rap. Jhope - A flow genius, man has got so much flow switch ups and his diction and pronunciation (slangs) is genius. He's either new school or old school. Suga - A rap god. He is a diff beast. His beats are insane and his energy and intensity and cadence just... as he said "whether youre a guy or a girl, my rap turns you on" BAHAHAHAHHA tongue technology it is, D-boy.

Also, I don’t know if you know this but when BTS started, they were looked down on, mostly the rapline, for being rapper idols (as if that would take away from the sheer talent they have), like rappers can’t be idols and idols can’t be rappers, they got a lot of hate but they are both so there’s some context in case you haven’t gotten it, yet.
