One incredible aspect of Assassin's Creed is the detail and historical accuracy of each world. The series takes us to places like Renaissance Italy, the French Revolution, and even Ancient Greece. It's easy to see why so many of us love these games. Now as somebody that plays Assassin’s Creed quite extensively, it’s the design of each world for me that makes the series so special. So what I'm going to do in this video is rank the world of all 13 mainline Assassin’s Creed games from worst to best

Assassin's Creed is an open-world, action-adventure, and stealth game franchise published by Ubisoft and developed mainly by its studio Ubisoft Montreal using the game engine Anvil and its more advanced derivatives. Created by Patrice Désilets, Jade Raymond, and Corey May, the Assassin's Creed video game series depicts a fictional millennia-old struggle between the Order of Assassins, who fight for peace and free will, and the Knights Templar, who desire peace through order and control. The series features historical fiction, science fiction, and fictional characters intertwined with real-world historical events and historical figures. In most games, players control a historical Assassin while also playing as an Assassin Initiate or someone caught in the Assassin-Templar conflict in the present-day framing story. Considered a spiritual successor to the Prince of Persia series, Assassin's Creed took inspiration from the novel Alamut by the Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol, based on the historical Hashashin sect of the medieval Middle East.

    For me it’s always a hard choice between Odyssey and Valhalla. The amount of detail the developers put into Odyssey is just amazing. Like the giant snake skeleton near Delphi as a reference to to Apollo killing a snake so that Delphi gets it’s clairvoyant ability. Or the giant statue of Athena on the Akropolis which was destroyed almost a thousand years ago. And Valhalla’s huge forest with fog etc really adds an almost supernatural factor to the game. But if I had to choose I’d always pick Ancient Greece

    For me what also gave personallity to those games with its first entries was the crowd and all the social stealth that came with it. I liked how you had to pay attention to the crowd when traversing cities: - Walking quickly at the risk of bumping with someone holding a vase/crate and breaking your stealth approach or walking slower but making sure you avoid NPCs. - Running quickly at the risk of bumping into someone and falling or running slower but making sure to push people away and not get slowed down. - In AC1, avoid crazy people who will shove you aside, breaking your stealth approach. Alongside the recruitable NPCs we got with AC2 (courtesans, mercenaries, thieves), all those things brought some personality to the world and unique mechanics to the game. I was sad when, starting with AC3, the character would automatically run at full speed and remove civilians from his way, it just made the crowd part of the decor now, like any building, instead of having it be a "character" of its own to pay attention to.

    There's something about Colonial America in AC3 that always grabs me in how authentic it feels as opposed to being vibrant or lively as some of the other settings in the franchise. The Frontier in was very reminiscent of the Kingdom from AC1. Compared to most nature oriented open-worlds, it always felt a lot more grounded and dynamic with its NPC's and events, which always drew me back to it whenever I replay. In the Black Hills section of the map, you could literally parkour amongst the trees for long stretches of time and see the beauty that really shines through in the remaster. Along with the beautiful Winter setting which really brings everything to life even more.

  • @1woozy

    @1woozy

    I agree. It truly felt like the devs wanted an authentic approximation of the setting in AC3 and not a sandbox that just catered to what players had come to expect (i.e. sprawling high buildings, rooftops and 'exotic' sights). Like they chose Revolutionary America and then went full-send when it came time to flesh it out, doing their best with the tech available to them at the time. It sets the game apart from the ones before it and makes for a very immersive experience.

    I actually think every AC game has had solid settings in terms of time period and location... The historical figures are another story however, and the characters especially in more recent games' side stories act badly out of place for their time periods. The modern/meta humor in Valhalla was easily the worst part of the game.

    Nope, just an oft-repeated myth. Ubisoft offered help but it was never taken up on, simply because the real records are much more detailed than Ubisoft's.

    AC1 should be higher. The cities are quite distinct, in my opinion, I'm quite confident I could guess them based on a random picture in black and white(no colour filter to help). Acre even has a visual and functional aspect found nowhere else in the series. AC1 is always dragged through the dirt lol

    I always found Victorian British history fascinating and interesting, which is why AC Syndicate appealed to me with its setting That, and I love gothic fiction too AC Revelations made a mistake with its setting. It should have been Spain during the Spanish Inquisition, which was a setting teased in Assassin's Creed 2

    Top-tier: 1. AC 2 (Pretty much the main reason AC 2 is my favorite game in the series) 2. AC Origins (Straight up pretty) 3. AC Syndicate (I would say the most alive open world in the series) 4. AC 4 Black Flag (Despite having small cities the Caribbean is stunning and fun the sail in) 5. AC Odyssey (Lots of landmarks and places to explore like the inside of volcanoes) 6. AC Unity (Probably the second most alive open world in the series) Mid-tier: 7. AC Brotherhood (Lots of landmarks with the Italian feeling though step back with having only one city with a lot of it being countryside) 8. AC 3 (Frontier is pretty with fun tree parkouring and the cities feel like American colonies) 9. AC 1 (Multiple cities with different atmospheres and designs for the rich, middle, and poor classes) 10. AC Revelations (Nice blend of AC 1 settings with the Ezio Trilogy but not as much variety on the buildings and less landmarks) Low-tier: 11. AC Rogue (North Atlantic is pretty but New York feels like AC 3 mixed in with Black Flag) 12. AC Valhalla (Lots to explore with an autumn feeling to England but most of the areas are in open fields and I prefer being in cities) Black Flag could be above or below both Odyssey and Unity anytime and Unity and Odyssey could swap places with each other and the same goes with AC 1 with AC 3 and Valhalla with Rogue. I haven't played Mirage yet but I'm thinking it may be either in the top tier or the mid tier.

    Odyssey should gains extra points for its historical accuracy, altought the scaling isn't right and the landscape doesn't look like that irl, the acropolis looks exactly like it should, i've seen it and both the Parthenon and the Erectheion are extremely accurate to how they look irl, others sites like Delphi, Korinth and Olympia are also so well designed it shows historians worked on this

One thing i see in the 2nd game thats not in any is the pistol. Ezio had that pistol. None of the others do that and i wonder if its because Leonardo Da Vinci hid his work or something?

    To be honest the RPG trilogy, as beautiful as they were, really left a lot to be desired with settlements. AC Mirage actually seems to scale and gives the feel of Baghdad at the time. The Cities in the trilogy were laghable. There was one in Odessy that was litterally a big stone wall protecting like two dozen citizens lol. Literally small towns with the infrastructure of big cities at the time. Almost like Bethesda but not as bad

    Personally I think Valhallas map is decent. It isn't bad... I mean, it also isn't really all too special and the story... Well I lost track after making an allieance with London. But all in all, I think the map is appealing in it's own way. Greece in Odyssey ofc is a lot, and I mean a very lot, more engaging and, well, diverse, but I like that Valhalla has less side content... Like, I am replaying Odyssey's 100% rn, and I wish I could think "Oh, cool, I get to explore Laconia now!" but my thoughts just go to "Ah shit, here we go again." Like, I haven't even started the story, I only just finished the mission on Andros and other than that just explored, doing side content, and I am already at lvl 40 or so, having only finished about one third of the entire map. Don'tget me wrong, I love Odyssey, I love the map, I am a sucker for ancient Greek history, and I am pretty biased on Odyssey because of it, but the side content is just overwhelming imo. And, but this is a common issue with open-world games, I personally thought Black Flag's map was pretty lackluster. I mean, yes, the golden age of piracy is an intruiging setting (even though it's not really my cup of tea) and the cities and map in general, can be quite beautiful, but frankly, the islands just seem very repetitive at times, similarly to Odysseys military camps... and if I have to get another uncharted chest or animus fragment for the 100%, I'll throw a tantrum.

    Rereading my comment I just see how much I dislike repetitive side content. Collecting chests, raiding camps that all look the same, etc. get away with that. But that's sadly a problem with Ubisoft games in general. I love AC and Far Cry. I love all their maps and the stories, but they somehow fuck it up by making me collect 466 chests (I'm looking at you, Far Cry 6). Honestly, I think GTA 5 made it best with the side content imo. It just feels natural there. You just don't run around and collect random chests, because why not, but you actually talk with people and do stuff that you could actually be doing irl (Like, not that you actually should, but you know what I mean, it seems natural.)
