    Hey guys, while editing this video I found myself changing my mind on my Makhachev and Fedor pick. I think that given all of fedor’s 29 wins, even though he doesn’t have a win over a top 20 all time fighter, Makhachev hasn’t had enough of those rly good wins to triumph over Fedor yet.

    Lucas, respectfully, not putting ANY "All-Time" wins on Fedor's resume shows that you weren't alive or old enough to remember just how big his fights with Cro Cop and Big Nog were. Those were the biggest fights I can recall until Connor v. Khabib. They were that big. And they were only around 2-1 odds. Meaning those were pick-'em fights. Those two wins alone elevate him significantly.

    You didn't include Anderson's two best wins. Dan Henderson imo could've made the list, he's about the same as Hughes for me, he was on his prime, the original champ champ beating a beastly Wanderlei Silva to win gold in pride at MW and LHW when he lost to Silva. Also, Forrest, now, looking back we all know Forrest wasn't the greatest champ ever but he had just lost the title in a division above Anderson's, and it was LHW so the jump from that division was 20 pounds. Let's say, hypothetically: Strickland loses his belt in his next fight, than does a weird superfight with Leon Edwards and Leon beats him. would you not consider that a good win for Leon? That would be a great win, even if in the future we look back and see that Sean wasn't the prime example of a middleweight champ. Also, it's difficult to have an all-time win when nobody can become an all-time fighter since you dominated the division for like 10 years, DJ's all time win only became all time after they fought, and personally, I think DJ won that fight, so had the scorecards gone differently he wouldn't have an "all-time win" even tho his record would've actually been better. And speaking of Fedor, I also think his wins over Big Nog was a bit underrated even if you praised it a lot, Big Nog was far from his prime and got interim gold, could've gotten undisputed if Brock hadn't cut the line.

Like, if an entire division looks uncompetitive compared to the champion for that long, is it more likely that by chance nobody else who was good weighted 185 pounds, or that Silva was just that much better than everyone. Absolutely. Jon also suffered with that in the latter half of his LHW reign. Glover for example, had it not been for his late push to UFC gold he would've been a forgotten Jon Jones defense even though he was one of the most impressive ones. This will happen to current champions too, in a few years people won't see Kamaru's opponents for example, in the same light as they do today, in a few years I doubt people will consider Burns as good a title defense as we now he is because we can see Burns fight live, in a few years they'll just see the wikipedia record.

    I don't think fedor falling off in his early 30s should really damage his argument in the goat list that much, sure age wise he's supposed to be in his prime but you have to take into consideration how much damage he accumulated in 10 years of fighting 30+ times, sometimes more than once a night against fully roided pride heavyweight, most of them are bigger than himself, and the likelihood that he himself took quite a lot of steroids to keep up with them, it'll take a toll in his body

When Khabib fought Tibou and he was no longer able to weight bully because Tibau is the biggest weight bully, he was 0-13 on takedowns and got taken down twice himself. When talking about wins over other other ATGs for ATG status of a fighter we should only consider wins over them in their prime. That would be similar to saying that Izzy beat Anderson Silva and that win should be counted as ATG win for him. Yes, Silva is ATG without a doubt, the GOAT of middleweight division but by the time he fought Izzy he was way past his prime. I think that any expert who knows how this things work would agree with me,yes a win is on Oliveira's resume but I doubt that someone will consider it worthy of ATG status in the future.

But if you take the Muhammad Ali approach that greatness is more than just the sum of athletic achievements, it has to be GSP.

    The site fightmatrix has a points-based methodology, similar to Elo, where the points you get are based on the points of who you fight, which is the most objective way of doing it. All-time MMA fighters according to their calculation is: 1. 36k GSP (repeatedly beat two high-point fighters of BJ Penn and Matt Hughes) 2. 33k JBJ (only repeatedly beat one high-point fighter of DC) 3. 24k Aldo 4. 22k Fedor 5. 21k Anderson Silva (imo this is the only true Great fighter MMA has seen so far of someone who bends the game) 6. 20k Matt Hughes (a lot of people sleep on his record, at one point he was 41 wins - 4 losses) 7. 16k Volk 8. 14k Mighty Mouse 9. 13k Holloway 10. 13k BJ Penn 11. 12k Usman 12. 12k Khabib 13. 12k DC 14. 11k Dan Henderson 15. 11k Adesanya 16. 11k Miocic 17. 11k Antonio Nogueira 18. 10k Couture 19. 10k Frankie Edgar 20. 9k Urijah

    Interesting af. I feel like this might underrate lower weightclasses which are more skilled and competitive. Like it's really hard for a dominant lw or bw champ to crop up. And I'm curious how it ranks farming bums, since Khabib's career has a lot of that mixed in with really sick competition, and I know Jones's opponents win rates aren't far from Khabib's overall.

  • @nd15music73

    @nd15music73

    5 ай бұрын

    @@keion_arknights It's similar to Elo system (used in Chess or some ranked video games) of points gained depends on points of who you beat, and that can be a chain going 30 years back to two obscure nobodies fighting. It's rather the other way around where if your division is bums then hard to get big points, similarly could be bias of not connecting to legacy chains of points. Another thing is that two high ranked fighters having a trilogy could inflate their points. But I'm not sure of algorithm, I think it's posted somewhere on site. Main thing is that such systems, and that site, are trying to make accurate predictions on who would win. Elo is highly accurate in Chess, or Starcraft or Age of Empires 2, but it requires the players to have hundreds of matches. MMA has a very low number of matches and so if you simply apply Elo or something like it then it has so little matches to work with. Plus it's rapidly advancing sport and a fighter can evolve loads between 2 fights.
