To clarify about my comments on Silva and Jones' USADA violations. I didn't do a good job of stating that clearly. The justification I used for Jones at number 1 is the same for Silva at number 3. It holds both of their legacies back, but despite that, they still sit that high on the list. Many would argue that because of Silva's violations that he should not be in the top 3 or even on this list at all. At the end of the day, I see GSP's record as better than Silva's and Jones' better than GSP's. I had to heavily emphasize why Jones would still be number 1, so I spent way more time talking about why for him than I did for Silva. I should have broken that down more.

Yeah I get that. It would have for a much more compelling case that Silva's record was better if not for his USADA stuff. It made their very close records a much easier pick to put GSP ahead. I always thought GSP's record was a bit better in a more stacked division anyway. For Jones, I just thought his record was still that much better.

You can't say "Anderson Silva can't be top because he's held back by his USADA violations" and then have Jon Jones top of the list.

@@kingfartyt8420 Silva's best days were behind him when he lost to Weidman, and Weidman's style was a bad matchup for Silva. Even if Silva wasn't showboating he'd probably still have lost as evidenced in the rematch, despite actually keeping his hand up to protect his face Weidman was still winning both on the ground and in the stand up. Quite simply, Silva should have taken the retirement hint Dana White and the UFC gave him before the Weidman fight.

Jones was the reason I started watching UFC . It's not easy listing him on the top spot but his UFC title defence. His inring game plans is just remarkable . He always finds a way to win. And that something outstanding. Have been a huge fan of Jones then now and will be.

I think the Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia wins by Fedor should not be dismissed. It's a false narrative that these two ex champions were past there prime just because they left UFC. Arlovski won 5 fights in a row, 4 by KO, going into the Fedor fight. This win streak included KOs over big iron chin contenders Ben Rothwell and Roy Nelson. It also included a win over future UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum. Before getting KOd by Fedor in one of the most spectacular one punch knockouts in mma history, Arlovski was looking better than he ever has. He brought his best game in his career that day. Tim Sylvia wasn't quite as hot going into the Fedor fight, but he had gone 7-2 in his last 9 fights, with his two losses coming in UFC title fights. A decision loss to Randy Couture, and a submission loss to Nogueira in a fight Tim was winning before getting caught in the submission. Tim came in at his prime fighting weight of 265, and had huge height and weight advantages over Fedor. This is what makes Fedor's 39 second destruction of Tim Sylvia impressive. It was after the Fedor fight when Tim stopped training and ballooned to 311 pounds, and was no longer a heavyweight contender

He got a gift title shot against journeyman Bisping, who should not have even had the title after he clearly lost to Hendo but was given the decision. GSP also lost to Hughes and Serra in his prime. Fedor and Jones didn't lose in their primes. Jones was a cheater, Anderson was a cheater who lost to cans in his prime. Fedor should be top.

Jones is good but against majority of his opposition he had size plus reach advantage and would poke eyes along with doping. He also fought opposition past their primes. It was said that he didn't have enough in his system to affect his performance, but they know how to cycle that stuff. He just got caught. Look at how Canelo in boxing got caught before the second fight with GGG.

Anderson didn’t get higher on the list because of USADA violations then puts Jon Jones at #1. That completely discredited the whole list lol

List of an MMA Fan since spring 2020: 1. Khabib - He didn't just conquer the deepest and most talented division in all of mma history. He thoroughly dominated it. Never a close fight. Sure, he didn't fight everyone the division, but he still fought the very best (Poirier, Gaethje, McGregor) and they never had him in danger. And that's the difference between Khabib and everyone else: throughout his entire UFC career, against the toughest competition in the world, he's never been close to losing a fight. And let's be honest, El Cucuy would at best survive to the final horn. Khabib is my goat. 2. St-Pierre - All time great, beat many all-time greats. However, he still technically lost 2 fights, and many say he should have lost 3. For this reason, he's not my goat. 3. Jones - Reigned over the premier division of mixed martial arts for the better part of a decade. Undefeated to the initiated. However, the drug issue is a major mark, and the reality is that the quality of the LHW division went down during his reign. 4. Fedor - I've seen a few fights on youtube, and while Fedor's career doesn't connect with me as a new fan, I have to place him somewhere in the top 5. The record, opponents, and win streaks speak for themselves. 5. Spider - It feels weird placing the such a dominant fighter this low in the rankings. But I can't ignore the losing streak at the end of his career. Still, top 5 feels respectable enough for a man who mystified the masses in ways that will never be replicated. 6. Stipe - The greatest fighter of all time in the most badass division in existence. Knocked out all-time greats in title fights. Honestly, had he not lost to Ngannou, Stipe may be in my top 5. However, top 10 is locked in stone here. 7. Mighty Mouse - If I had the technology to shrink or balloon a fighter into any size and bet on him to win any title fight, I'm probably picking DJ. In his prime, he brought everything to the table and reigned champ for too many years to be ignored. 8. DC - Okay, so the man lost the majority of his fights to his main rivals. At least those rivals are the consensus greats of their divisions' histories. While DC lands #2 all-time at both LHW and HW, his resume still proves formidable enough to be top 10. Strikeforce tournament champ. Undisputed champ in 2 divisions. Wins over Stipe, Silva, Rumble, Gustaffson, Henderson. Daddest man on the plant right here. 9. Couture - The Natural may have lost his trilogy to Iceman - among many other loses - but he's still the man that exceeded expectations in the brightest moments over and over. A man who reigned as champion time and time again must get his respect in the top 10. 10. Marty Fake Newsman - I believe it's time to recognize that Usman is no longer just a modern-day great. He's all-time great. Similar to Khabib, he bullied his way to the top. But then, once he reaches the very top, he shows a new element to his game and starts breaking the faces of incredibly dangerous fighters. And let's be real, the modern WW division is as savage a division there is in the game. Usman rules it with an iron fist.

Great list, personally I would swap GSP and Khabib, mainly because St Pierre had waya more title matches and in general had harder competition

For me, reality is the bummer... always wish different era fighters could've been around in their primes, all at once. That's why so much criteria has to go into judging them on the merits of the day. Still suffer mentally from Emelianenko's absence from the great early days of the UFC, only to fall into it in his outgoing days as an aged shadow of his prime.

@Hello Tron you know how many times Silva defended his belt? Silva even went up a weight class and dominated. Where Khabib only stayed in 1 weight division. It's not about being undefeated. How can you consider yourself the GOAT if you don't even hold that many title defenses compare to Other great fighters that should be on anyone's GOAT list. Khabib defended his title 3 times! Compare that to fighters like Jon Jones who defended his title 11 times, Anderson Silva defended his title 10 times! Jose Aldo defended his title 7 times! Demetrius Johnson defended his title 11 times! And even George Saint Pierre defended his title 9 times! Please Khabib 3 title defense can't compare. Look at Daniel Cormier he was also undefeated until he met Jon Jones. Being undefeated with 3 title defense doesn't hold any weight to GOAT

Would love to see this list 3 years later! Would you add Khabib and/or Amanda Nunez, and if so, who would you remove? I think I'd take out Iceman and BJ Penn, mostly because they both lost a lot of fights at their prime. I'd keep Randy at 10 just because I think that while Chuck did more for the sport overall, Randy's resume, not to mention the 40's title run just bump him a slight notch higher.

BJ didn’t lose “A lot” in his prime… two of them were to the greatest fighter of all time (GSP, and BJ should’ve won the first one but got robbed) the ones to Matt Hughes and Jens pulver were avenged and I’d say the rest weren’t really in his prime

His long term issues with conditioning and how he treated his body outside of the Octagon are what led to his rapid decline at a time when most fighters are still going strong (early 30's). Keep in mind I am a massive BJ Penn fan, and think he's on the Mt Rushmore of all time LW's, but I don't think he's top 10 all time with the emergence of Khabib, Usman, Adesanya, and Nunez (despite her recent loss).

Hamza Nazeer I don’t recall him getting so fucked up in the octagon fam. He got held on the ground (after multiple stuffed takedowns) then got hit with a (admittedly pretty good) punch and he tapped. At the end he only had a slight shiner and was more tired than hurt.

I believe Fedor should be #1. If you see his fight against Randleman, you will see how tough he is and the pressure he can put on in the ground game, even after being dropped on his head from one of the most devastating throws ever. In the Cro Cop fight, he also puts on relentless pressure and walks through well-timed punches. After taking Cro Cop down you can see his skills with ground and pound.

I used to have Jones as the best fighter of all time, but all of these lists have 30 seconds of Jones accolades and 2:30 minutes defending his actions, but you take GSP and ever second of any video ever is constant praise, I think that says something

Rickson Gracie always comes to mind for me, because Royce ranked #7 in the family. Rickson was ranked #1 and was the Gracie Grandmaster and supposedly was 400 wins and 0 losses in bare knuckle challenge matches. Royce was scared as hell of Rickson. He wasn't well known in USA and reigned in a time before UFC became popular but he was able to easily destroy 6'3 250 lb men and he was only 5'10 and 185lbs. Let's see any of these guys on this list take on men 5 inches taller than them and 65 pounds heavier and win. Ken Shamrock always dreamed of defeating Royce so he could get a shot at the guy known as the best on planet earth..Rickson Gracie! I wonder how Mcgregor would rank if he had just walked away after destroying Eddie Alvarez rather than went AWOL against Mayweather. He's never been the same since. Watching his rise was something to behold, especially if you're half Irish...like me. LOL.

Fedor walked in fat, didn't care. Didn't care about the drama, didn't call his opponents names, he didn't complain, he didn't make excuses, and when Fedor finally lost he lost gracefully. Fedor is a real champion that has been great for MMA. I'll watch Fedor fight even if he never wins another match because he's a real champion all around.

Matt Hughes deserves to be at least 10, I know BJ beat him twice but he is 45-9 and was one of the first truly dominant champion and he beat Bj, GSP, Frank Trigg, Carlos newton etc

The only question mark to that is that Jones walks around 230-240 and would be dominant at HW also. We shall see in the next couple years.

I agree, Fedor fought the best of the best while they were in their prime. He never lost in Pride. He never cheated in any form or fashion. I'd rather fight the people in the UFC during GSP's run rather than the people Fedor had to fight during his streak. I could go on and on thinking who would be better and I ponder Jones and maybe Rickson Gracie, but both time and substance issues come into play. Who Rickson faught is not the same as who Fedor fought. Jones did use banned substances and that's too bad because otherwise he would be number one. I can see him beating Fedor some strange way, while I also thought the same about CroCop, Nog, Coleman and a few others. They still were mauled by The Last Emperor.

Yeah fedor by far the best fighter. He could plow through opponents with power and he knocks them out with his fist or if he wants to he armbars people. Those who are tough gets armbared. Prime fedor would be able to beat any fighters he have lost against.

I think it’s not bandwagon. Beating Connor, Porier, and Geathje were bigger achievements than the wins before. On top of that, it was all dominant wins with those 3. Not only was it the recognition, but also the significance despite it being only 3 fights.
