I really appreciate that you just put the anime in the tier you thought they belonged, despite how scuffed the tier list ended up looking. Evening out the tiers makes sense because you can rate every single one of them and you know that the average should be grouped around B tier. However in this case, we aren't rating all anime. But one season. Which is a season of anime that is above average when compared to "all" anime. So it does not make sense to even out the tiers. A series that is weak for this season can still be A tier when considering anime as a whole. I explained this pretty poorly, but I hope you understand what I mean.

Tomo-chan is the most textbook romcom I've seen. It knows where it wants to end, good side characters, conclusive story, not doing more than it needs to. Tomo-chan should be taught in anime making schools at the romcom discipline. It's a basic romcom done well. Like a good homemade lasagna.

Also, Angel Next Door has the animation quality of a PowerPoint presentation so the bar for romance anime would be quite low if it was a romance textbook

@@poligrant5152 Code geass, FMAB, HxH .though they do have comedy, are s tier anime. I would heavily recommend Berserk. Not the anime but the manga as it is very dark and might be the 3rd best manga I have ever read. Voilet evergarden, I want to eat your pancreas, Your lie in april Wolf children are also very good animes that will make you definitely cry. I would also recommend rewatching AOT if you already have watched it, as emotional scenes become even more heart wrenching, the rewatch value of it is insane.

Handyman Saitou in Another World was unironically the best anime of the season. It's a shame that most people didn't give it a chance because of the name or dropped it after ep 1 which wasn't the best start for it, but every episode after 2 was really good!

I watched 1 episode and dropped, came back to see people praising when it was finished so gave it another try. It really does get better in 2~3 episodes. It's not perfect, but it is a character driven story with good plot and a lot of (decent) humor. I'd give it an 8/10, one of the best of the season (maybe second?) clearly not above Vinland though. I think the season was overall pretty weak as well, which is why I'd rate it so high.

Huh, I had a different experience. I really liked the earlier episodes but lost interest mid way through cause it felt like it just dragged on and changed the structure too much

My favourite trio of LNs are ReZero, Danmachi and Mushoku, so I'm super happy to see s4 finally got a great adaptation that was well received by the community. I supposed you weren't watching Danmachi since past seasons weren't adapted as well but aside from that, as always, matching tastes, It's scary at this point :D

It kinda drives me nuts with the complaints people have been having about Vinland Saga S2, the main character is a former Viking, disgraced by the king, severe PTSD from war, and a run away who watched his dad die at 5. Not every character is gonna be like goku and just go back to fighting again, there’s been more character development for Thorfinn in the first 6 episodes of this season than there was in all of season 1. Like if you just want fighting then go watch MHA, Bleach, One Piece, etc

I'd love to know how long it takes you to script these - you always seem to come up with fresh jokes and clever wordplay that I haven't seen anyone else use. Hilarious as always

On a romance anime only tierliest tomo has to be an s tier. The relationships between all the characters are really realistic, and the way that the show was able to have these hilarious moments, but then also have the serious moments at peak times and not take away from them was super refreshing honestly.

Honestly, you kind of disappointed me, my friend. I was really waiting for your opinion on Record of Ragnarok season 2, especially after the animation has improved greatly from the first season.

finally something I can disagree on: Magical Revolution doesn´t belong in S. The Yuri part just saved it from C in my opinion. It started pretty good but quickly the whole rest of the story was pretty mid and before the last episode, the show didn´t even care to mention that it was an isekai. That´s how unimportant it was. B Tier.

Vinland Saga S2 has been just incredible. The themes in S2 really bring light to the events in S1 in a deeo way. People who had depression or even everyday people who struggle with stuff like regret can relate so much with the themes this show is trying to portray. It sucks that some people dropped the show because it was "boring with no Viking action". Nowadays it's action, gore, shiny animation, fan service and senseless protagonist screaming which makes a show "watchable". Shounen fans being the worst of this catagory. Still I'm just glad to see Vinland Saga got a great anime adaptation by Mappa (yes I know it's the same team from Studio Wits who are working on S2 under Studio Mappa).

Most violent animes the protagonist doesn't get condemned for violent actions when it comes to their version of "greater good" but Vinland Saga is one of the exceptions. Great action in the first season and great story telling and messages in the second. Both having a dope plot and rise so yeah this shi is pretty good I'd say. 👍

Exactly. Vinland Saga, I liked when it came to Season 1. I understood it as a brilliant piece of art when Season 2 dropped. It is an absolute whiplash, because that is the narrative point. It has stuck with me and made me a better person. No show ever influenced my peaceful ways as much as VS.

HIGH CARD is one of my favorites for winter 2023. it is one of the most underrated anime i have ever watched and i’m honestly surprised at just how many people slept on it

god i fucking love the nier franchise and 100% encourage people to get into DrakenNier lore - drakengard lore can be a bit weird bc it was written around the era “shock value = good content” (o well the manga still has cute anime girls), but the nier timeline is one of the most beautiful stories ever written and will tear apart your will to live just so that it can build it back up again

You actually didn't touch on a lot of the series I enjoyed that season. Handyman Saitou in Another World Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement Chillin' in My 30s after Getting Fired from the Demon King's Army Farming Life in Another World Reborn to Master the Blade: From Hero-King to Extraordinary Squire Yeah, they're all isekai. A lot of times, isekai is pretty much indistinguishable from standard fantasy, but Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement does something special: the MC can jump between worlds at will. Farming was really cozy, and Saitou had a good mix of comedy and feeling. Chillin' felt kind of generic, but when the season was done I was impressed at how they worked with the characters and the world.

My favorite this season was actually magical revolution, in the end I ended on episode 11, went to read the LN, finished it, and then decided I didn’t have enough chaos and read the WN it’s chaotic attitude mixed with wholesome moments made me like it a lot

Danmachi season 4 was absolutely incredible. Much more intense than previous seasons. Highly recommend

Thanks for the as usually funny and entertaining video! I'm surprised you missed Trigun Stampede. It was one of the big hitters last season. Studio Orange really knocked it out of the park once again. These days I kind of only really watch fantasy (if ALL anime became Isekai or regular fantasy I would actually love it, haha) but for me Stampede was still my top show last season. Imo the show is really underwatched which is a shame considering just how good it was.

Spy Classroom suffered from having an LN vol 1 that was almost impossible to adapt properly simply due to the Erna surprise introduction. All of the complaints that they skipped over all of the training that would have developed the characters properly was because every one of those would have revealed Erna. They could either do what they did in the anime and keep Erna secret and delay all those training montages until later, or they could have done away with Erna's surprise reveal and adapted the training in it's proper place - and had just as many people complain about how Erna's surprise introduction was ruined. It was a no-win situation for those adapting this series. The worst part is LN readers should have known this, and yet they were the ones screaming the loudest about how the adaptation was terrible because they were skipping over all of the training scenes.

@@bilditup1 in the LN it was less about hiding Erna and more about maintaining the lie that Lamplight was a team of 7. As was stated, Erna missed the official introduction of the team, but when they included her in a training mission they'd conveniently leave one of the other members of Lamplight out. Same as in the anime, Erna was officially revealed and Lamplight was revealed to be a team of 8 during the same mission as in the anime. Honestly, if you were seriously paying attention while reading you would have picked up on it, but if you were reading casually it was very easy to lose this fact in the words - which was what the author was intending. But this would have never worked in the anime because faces are so much easier to remember, and as it was Erna's presence (table settings, arms, legs, etc) was in several scenes and it was easily picked out.

I'm an anime only and I thought it was a decent watch, especially Grete's arc (and her bathroom scene 😏). I thought the SoL comedic scenes were more fun and entertaining than any of the serious scenes the show had done. I would prefer it if it just stays light-hearted.

As always, another SOLID tier list Echidnut. I disagree with some of the rankings respectfully but I love how you don't balance out these tier lists unlike other anime KZreadrs. Also you point on "Vinland Saga S2" was spot on!

Benriya Saitou-san, Isekai ni Iku is the anime that surprised me the most. Started it with low expectations but laughed alot.

For spring look out for Oshi No Ko it’s really unique it depends it could be boring to others but it was really good to me. Plus it’s made from the same author of Love is War which this series is so different from comedy romance.

oh no did you forgot to add Danmachi??? potential God tier it was the best anime of the season for me personally and every episode was intense & amazing. strongest exorcist isekai was pretty decent to me too. nevertheless, appreciate the tierlist and agree with most of it. can't expect too much since i havn't been able to even watch half of all these that you've watched to come up with this. Tenshi should be S tier if we factor in LN popularity but this is an anime tierlist overall a decent anime season, cya in the next tierlist which might be crazier idk

The genius of Vinland saga is the juxtaposition of peace and violence but it goes even deeper than that as it follows the evolution and character development of both the young king and Thorfinn. While first season was about strength through violence, the second season focused on peaceful resistance which made it so slow. This reminds of the zen story: During the civil wars in feudal Japan, an invading army would quickly sweep into a town and take control. In one particular village, everyone fled just before the army arrived - everyone except the Zen master. Curious about this old fellow, the general went to the temple to see for himself what kind of man this master was. When he wasn't treated with the deference and submissiveness to which he was accustomed, the general burst into anger. "You fool," he shouted as he reached for his sword, "don't you realize you are standing before a man who could run you through without blinking an eye!" But despite the threat, the master seemed unmoved. "And do you realize," the master replied calmly, "that you are standing before a man who can be run through without blinking an eye?"

Wait..."the main character is very intelligent and also very lewd. In the middle of and abruptly make an out of pocket sex joke for no reason, it's shocking sometimes. " So...I don't understand...somehow, YOU'RE the main character of In/Specter?

MagiRevo was so great, but I'm irritated about how they decided to end it. If I had to guess, the writers probably had no faith that they'd get greenlit for a continuation so they tried to rush it to a satisfying end point, which meant skipping a lot of important things and have a final episode that bit off more than it could chew. Spoilers: With the whole ending monologue about how they reformed society and ended the monarchy stuff, you'd think this is just where the story ends, but it only adapted 3 volumes of the LN. So far it has six and it's still going. I just wish they'd made it to just be a good anime instead of effectively using it as an ad for the source material. I still really liked it, but it was frustrating. Yuri does make it s tier tho

As someone who is a fan of CGDCT, Onimai was my personal AOTS, but only if I exclude the second cour of Eminence in Shadow. I do think quick relationships are good in romance series, but if the author decides to go that route, I prefer when there's still content left after the fact instead of just ending the series. Also, I'm surprised you didn't include Danmachi or the rest of To Your Eternity that aired

Hey, this roundup was super useful! I'm getting deeper into anime (after having watched not much beyond original FMA, Evangelion, half of Death Note over the years), so I'm spoiled for choice. I did watch Tomo-chan (the best part of which is that it's a story that's done in a single season), so it's nice to see that I don't have to bother with the rest of winter 2023 for a bit! Don't get me wrong, I liked Tomo-chan, but it didn't wow me like Kaguya, Bocchi or Mob, and I still have plenty of S-tier anime from earlier seasons to watch. Like Vinland Saga, apparently!

Onimai was my favourite new series, with Vinland Saga's second season being my favourite sequel series. Followed up by Tsurune's second season and Bungou Stray Dog's fourth season.

I feel like the main "Aim" Vinland Saga season 2 is character development(if that wasn't obvious enough)and i really don't mind a farming arc,Vagabond had one and people thought it was batshit crazy good(which it was) and i think this still proves that half the anime fan population is braindead

You're dang right The Magical Revolution deserves an S-tier. I don't even like yuri but if the two main heroines didn't end up together, I would have pulled out the inner keyboard warrior in me to complain about the anime. I would put Angel Next Door in S-tier for the same reasons you mentioned but not a 10/10. Still, it made me happy the whole time and had a conclusive ending, so S-tier.

Do you know why i like your opinion so much? Because you are the only anime youtuber who doesn't put every harem,ecchi, and isekai in the F tier and call them garbage and then move on. You actully say the good and the bad of every anime regardless of it's genre and you are one of us horny weebs so whenever i see one of your videos it always feel relatable Af. I really love your videos and humor and for the first timr ever in my life i decided to agree with someone on everything he says even if i disagree because i feel like your opinion is always right. So even tho i disagree echidna is indeed the best anime character and best girl and re:zero is the best anime (this time i actully agree) Also all of your tierlist videos are completely right. Mostly A-tier sounds about right. I cannot remember a season where so many anime stayed on my watchlist after episode 3. I usually cull most, but last season so many stayed.

many are disappointed with the Vinland Saga season 2 arc, you guys are not observant in judging this anime. not all about the brutality of war and who is strong, this vinland saga season 2 gives a lot of meaning to our real life that war and slavery are very, very cruel and inhumane things, it's true that the ends end up being war but, as a leader who loves peace like Thors said a world that is peaceful and without war and slavery is very difficult to achieve like a fantasy, but remember one thing "CARVE that you have no enemies". -Thors Snorresson vinland saga which is taken from this true story. very very beautiful arc as long as I watch anime. this is called maturity in an assessment of life as a human being who loves the beauty of peace.

I can agree with most of these, except for Tokyo Revengers and Spy Classroom. Those were pretty boring. They are both getting sequels so I guess I’ll stick around. Also, making the main guy from Kubo-san invisible at 2:58 is brilliant visual humor.

Great list but the Christmas showdown arc got to be one of the worst arcs i have ever seen in anime, i would put TR in D tier, and thanks for not complaining about delays of nier and giving it A as it deserves. Also imo kubo san was the best romance anime last season as it was definitely one of the most wholesome anime i have ever watched

Thankfully, someone finally acknowledged "The Angel Next Door Spoils me Rotten". I was waiting for anyone to say anything about this anime because it was better than I expected or better than how anyone talked about it. It felt too basic in the beginning, but it soon developed the relationship. Definitely deserves an A tier.

To me it was good first five episodes but after that it fell real short since MC is a wuss and it felt really boring to watch since there was almost no progression and the MC and everyone else is poorly written even the main chic is sub par in terms of quality last thing to mention there was almost no emotion in the animation nor the script

You've missed pretty good ones imo like Malevolent Spirit: Mononogatari or Revenger. But we don't care because I couldn't live without these seasonal videos, thanks boss

Can you do a tierlist for the Anime in A tier ?

A few missed shows: High Card: B tier, decent. Started out really strong but didn't really develop much afterwards. The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World: A tier, if you like power fantansy isekai this is the show for you. Really good show. Liked everything about it. Highly recommend for isekai fans. Kaina of the Great Snow Sea: B tier if you can get past the CGI. The story and characters are actually pretty good. Low budget show so animation quality is poor but ignoring that it is good. Revenger: B tier solid show not too much to say. Sugar Apple Fairy Tale: C tier, interesting premise but not for me.

I'll get around to watching your recommendations in 2026. I'm ridiculously behind as is while my phd is kicking my ass this year
