@@daniel4002 don’t get me wrong, Welbeck is a decent player in terms of holdup play and getting other players involved but as an out and out number 9 he’s no where near Vardy. 2021/22 season Welbeck 6 goals, 2 assists Vardy 15 goals, 2 assists This season both have only got 2 assists yet Welbeck is playing in an overachieving Brighton where Vardy is playing in a struggling Leicester. If we’re talking out and out striker which is primarily what a number 9 is, then Vardy is clear regardless of the slow start this season.

@sae I wouldn't say Welbeck is 'still doing it'. He hasn't been 'doing it' for a while if you're looking at goals. The job of a striker, is to score goals. Yes you have strikers that can track back and be more involved with link up play etc but their primary job is to put the ball in the back of the net. If we're talking about here and now then both are probably on par with each other due to having 0 goals in 7 games, but Vardy is playing in a struggling side atm whereas Welbeck is in a flying Brighton team like people have already mentioned. If we look back at each season and even their premier league totals, Vardy is miles clear of Welbeck. Overall totals: Welbeck: 56 goals & 28 assists in 280 games Vardy: 133 goals & 42 assists in 277 games Also remember that Welbeck has had so much more time in the premier league than Vardy has. Welbeck started regularly playing games in the premier league in the 2010/11 season when he was 19/20 years old. Vardy didn't even hit the premier league until 2014/15 when he was 27 years old, and that was when Leicester just survived being relegated. Welbeck has NEVER hit double figures in any season he has played in the premier league. He played 30 games for Man Utd in the 2011/12 season and scored 9. The following season he scored 1 goal in 27 games (although 14 of those were off the bench - for a striker you should still expect more). Vardy has hit double figures in every season since 2015/16. In every season since 2015/16, he's scored 15+ goals in the premier league except for one season which he scored 13 (in the 2016/17 season which we struggled battling relegation again). Vardy also has 4 POTM awards, 1 Golden Boot (which he got at the age of 33), 1 POTS award, 1 GOTM award. If you look at Welbeck and look at the teams he's played in... Man Utd & Arsenal for majority of his career, you'd expect him to have so many more goals than he has. Even if you use the argument of Welbeck links play up more than Vardy does and doesn't always stay in and around the box etc. Vardy's assists compared to Welbeck's is still better. Even big chances created... Welbeck has 33 big chances created compared to Vardy's 62. I don't think it's even a debate... Vardy is extremely underrated and under-appreciated by anyone who isn't a Leicester fan and has seen him play. Even for England he was under-utilised, not saying he would've gotten us further in tournaments because at that time the whole team wasn't great but at that time, it gave us a different option to attack and at the time, Vardy was arguably the best player in the world at doing what he did (sitting on shoulders, running in behind, pushing defenders back to create space for everyone else etc).

No one claims Welbeck is a goal scorer because he simply isn’t. Watch him at Brighton and just look at the numbers for the other attacking players there. Trossard on 5, MacAllister on 4 and Groß on 3. He was a key point in the build up for a majority of their goals. Wether it be assists, key passes or splitting defences with runs. He is Brightons most talented attacker and it shows on the pitch. Stats are a poor reflection of his raw ability

There's absolutely NO WAY Welbeck should even be a "D" let alone a C! He should be in "E"!! He has yet to score from 7 starts he's only scored 6 last season and 6 the season before in 25+ games per season. He has never shown that he can consistently score in the premier league (sure injury issues)... he has only scored 58 goals in 14 seasons!!! That's abysmal

@@Ray03595 Forgot to answer your main point, sorry. It's the same person that put Solanke in D with 5 goals in 69 matches in the PL. With Welbeck in C (7 matches - 0 goals. He does have 3 assists, so D for me). And Rory wanted to put Núñez IN E. Darwin would slide into any team, except City because they have Haaland, Arsenal because of Gabriel Jesus's form and Liverpool's because of Firmino's current form. And one of Rory's complaints was that he lost his head against Andersen (Andersen was targeting him all match and playing dirty, even though that's not an excuse as he still lost his head) and that puts him down possibly 4 tiers? All the players in this list have experience in the PL with one exception, Haaland. Darwin is fresh from a different league, is very young and doesn't have game time enough to actually show (England) how good he is. Time will tell. Haaland is in the same boat, but he is a monster. Can't compare him to anybody.

This is honestly some of the most shocking takes ive ever seen. Sky Sports should be genuinely embarassed that this is the best content they can manage

Welbeck is a good shout! No better defensive striker when you need to close out a game

welbeck has looked great in terms of buildup and positioning but if u look at his stats alone it’s not good enough, 0 goals in 7 appearances is crazy, and to say he’ll go to the world cup over toney and abraham is mental, u only take 3 strikers to the world cup unless they’re diverse and can play out wide so even if he was 4th choice which he’s not he won’t go

@@MrHenhen5 idk watkins isn’t great, he’s not good in 1v1’s and doesn’t contribute much if he doesn’t score, welbeck and him aren’t great but once rory gets it in his head someone’s good he dies by it, he’s very reactive aswell like he’s just seen trent score a free kick and he’s saying he has to go to the world cup when he’s been poor so far this season, im a liverpool fan aswell

That's because he barley takes shots unless they are power headers. Without Welbeck Brighton were lost that Fulham game we looked dire and sloppy. Just thing him up top with a faster good dribbled striker would be havoc

To say that Rory is basing his number 9’s on ‘what they are supposed to do’, I.e scoring goals, and then saying Welbeck is B tier is a joke. Welbeck gets 6 goals a season max. He has his attributes, just not very many

seriously don't understand the nunez hate, when was the last time a player scored 30+ goals in one of europe's top leagues and then is written off before he's played 5 games for his new team. Baffling
