Interesting fact about thr nunchaku part Thats actually a reference to the show that inspired Death Battle, Deadliest Warrior Specifically a scene feom The Sicilian Mafia vs The Japanese Yakuza where one guy used a Nunchuk against a gel dummy 3 times. A guy representing the mafia side comes up with a bat, smacks the gel dummy and does far more with 1 shot

I've watched Goku Vs Superman dozens of times, and I swear, that punt Goku hits Superman with right after he destroys the Kryptonite ALWAYS makes me laugh.

It is CRIMINAL that this doesn't have more views. Death Battle's first season really does feel like the first season of a show launched 10+ years ago on the internet. Despite it being rough around the edges, the childhood nostalgia for all of these episodes, decent matchups, and the benchmarks & standards laid slowly but surely in this very season alone is what makes it a blast to rewatch via a critical lens. Slightly off-topic, but it sucks that Rewind Rumble went nowhere, though, truly making it the K-Mart of versus shows.

Season 2 is what gave me the most/best memories of the show, but season 1 was a fun revisit (barring some obvious contenders). Goku vs Superman definitely made up for the low points, though. Also, poor Rewind Rumble. Could be a legitimately good alternative to DB, but they focused too much on Sans and other shitty meme matchups. Ya hate to see it.

@@JonathanFrostathan Season 2 was a solid follow-up to season 1, with even more polish, better fight choreography, and WAY less stinkers in both who wins and how they won (except for that ONE episode, ugh). Also, it had a decent finale to top everything off with a neatly wrapped bow. Can’t wait for your next DB analysis of all the S2 episodes! Also yeah, Rewind Rumble just turning into Cartoon Fight Club (*shudders*) mid-way through its lifespan really sucked, but nothing beats looking at the Vs Battles Wiki & Forums to truly find out who beats who.

The standing here bit caught me off guard and killed me, great vid man excited for part 2

Loved the review! It was funny to see how many of our points lined up, and the horny Boomstick image is brilliant. I will still defend Bomberman vs Dig Dug and Rainbow Dash vs Starscream til my dying breath!

Being reminded of how much I want Spawn vs Demi Fiend was a nice nostalgia trip but at the same time seeing how badly they lowballed Mitsuru it scares me to think how theyd handle someone as absurd as Demi Fiend

I imagine they used specifically Ash's Pikachu because this Pikachu is strangely powerful compared with a regular Pikachu that could be... well... very frail and weak.

You know, under normal circumstances, the equal amd casual acknowledgement, treatment and presentation of all these different groups of people in season 1 would be praise-worthy. Unfortunately, this season came out in the early 2010s Internet. Also, glad to hear someone share my thoughts on legacy matchups. I understamd that this might be a craaaazy opinion, but I'd like my matchup to have something more than just "a lot of people want it". Wiz: Mickey's weapons are technically NOT WEAPONS, since they were originally farming tools. Also Wiz: Master Splinter gave THE MOST COMPLICATED WEAPON to the (bad word) of the group. Is anyone else curious about how Shadversity would react ti the TMNT Battle Royale, considering all the talk about weapons and the nunchunk rants in it?

46:40 my biggest complaint about Starscream Vs Rainbow Dash, is that they compared him too much to an ACTUAL F-15 Eagle. While I do understand why they did this, and while this comparison would be logical at first glance, this fails to take into account that Starscream is an ALIEN ROBOT. he is vastly VASTLY different from a normal F-15. For instance, he can fly to space. That is something a normal F-15 cannot do. And in the back of the original toy's box, it states that Starscream's top speed is Mach 2.8. For reference, the top speed of an Eagle is Mach 2.5. Screamer is faster by Mach 0.3 according to the box. And his engines are also cybetronian scramjet engines, which are vastly different from normal F-15 engines. And yes, his Null-Rays CAN kill. In the G1 tv show, we see him destroying stuff with them, and even in the 1986 movie, we see him blast trumpets that were played in his coronation. His Null-Rays can be and ARE lethal. Lastly, they also forgot one key armament of the F-15: the F-15 can carry NUKES. Specifically only two. The pilots call them "Buckets of instant sunshine". Had Screamer been equipped with these, he could have just vaporized Dash in an instant. Hell, the guy that made the calculations for Rainbow Dash's speed later went on to admit that he had it wrong, that that her actual speed falls somewhere between Mach 3.0 to 3.5. Bringing her EASILY up to par with Starscream. I will play devil's advocate a little though and say that perhaps the whole "Starscream just standing there" bit may have been to show him struggling to keep up with Dash, since she was "more agile and faster" than him. Also, Starscream can possess techno-organic life forms, which means he could have possessed Rainbow Dash if he wanted to after she ate his spark. (Side note, they also brushed off the fact that Starscream's spark is immortal and cannot die, even if he is eaten, which I find pretty dumb in their part tbh) In short, that battle was BS and Staracream should have won. I. WANT. A. REMATCH!!!

Yeah, can understand, especially as it’s the only episode to not kill someone without a joke or reason for doing so (DP vs PP/ CN vs SS)

Great video. I really like it and it was funny. Another guy who is also going through every video Death Battle has done is a guy named DigitalTy. But there's nothing saying two awsome guys can't review every episode of Death Battle. Keep up the good work.

Pretending that JB vs RB is kind of a running joke in the community (at least with the people I've interacted with), but when it got to the point where I needed to talk about it, I felt that it would be necessary to dissect it like I would any other episode. Not just to explain why it's fucked up, but also to explain why it fails as a joke episode outside of the scumminess of it all. Nem didn't really give the episode a proper review, and while I respect and understand why that is, I didn't want to go that same route.

Honestly I enjoyed this season first time I watched it. It might've been because I was 12 when I started watching, joining midway through season 3.

A little thing you got wrong during the scripted part during the goku vs superman, goku at the end didnt get power from the sun, he's never had that ability, that was goku using the spirit bomb then absorbing the power of it since he cant fire it off while in super saiyan, and then launching it as a Kamehameha, something he did in one of the dbz movies.

Tbh shadow vs vegeta was a comedy episode but the thing is they downgraded shadow and vegeta badly.

Did you not notice that the stats for Goku's speed was halved between base form and SS1 form? Why didn't you point it out?

Wily vs Robotnik couldve ended with the robot masters and super bass teaming up on Metal Overlord and dying to a slash man thrown by super bass for extra speed/cutting power. Metal Overlord lost in Heroes to the true super power of teamwork and that was Wilys biggest advantage.

Out of these episodes the ones I've always held my ground that they're absolute bullshit are Doomguy vs Master Chief and Eggman vs Wily. For the first one they go on about how my guy the doomguy is faster than a cheetah while the chief is molasses slow, yet the whole fight they're walking and doomguy can't even dodge a grenade (a glowy one at that) And for the second one I don't think I need to explain, Wily's robots stomp

I feel like lowkey it’s a contradiction to your own criteria that the messed up numbers in the Goku v Superman don’t influence you, but fair enough if the nostalgia and effort in other areas is enough for ya. The “attention to detail” in Superman not damaging the city but Goku being fine with doing so is actually a bad showing of Goku’s character. Goku hates fighting in populated areas, even a wasteland that only has corpses is enough for Goku to dislike and have him ask Vegeta to move the fight elsewhere. Goku also doesn’t get power from the sun, I don’t know where that came from at all. There’s just way too much wrong with Goku’s section, and as a massive dragon ball fan, no amount of effort can make up for the glaring mistakes in Goku’s scaling, lol. The “thematic ending” is also just kind of bullshit and antithetical to what vs battle debates are. But yeah, I do agree there are more incorrect battles, with Gaara vs Toph being perhaps the most egregious.

People do know current Doom *SLAYER* would stomp Master Chief into Hell and then kill all the demons there before finishing him off right? His armor is literally just for looks because his skin is CANONICALLY stronger.

It's so funny to me hearing you say that the takes on Sonic were bad then, and you follow that up by dunking on 06. This isn't a personal attack or me having a go at you personally, it's just the most tired "haha, 06 bad" comment you could give. 06 isn't even that bad, especially in comparison to other Sonic games. The levels are well designed for the speed the game has, most of the characters are fun to play as, the story is brilliant with some of the best portrayal of characters the Sonic series has ever seen... I mean, Secret Rings came out the next year, and while I still don't think it's a bad game, it's not that fun to play, and you have to fight the game to even control it. What I'm saying is, it's ironic you call out Death Battle for being dated, then make a dated "haha, 06 bad" reference. (Also Colours, Lost World and Forces are way worse than 06, at least 06 is fun when it works)

I don't think I'm gonna miss TMNT Battle Royale. Rest in copyright Hell, you poorly aged episode in both Mikey and the conclusion. 2nd worst episode of the season for me.
