DBM II is definitely god tier man. The style of will’s guitar and Matt’s drums paired with Jonny’s bluesy voice and Jon Mess’s screams really improve. So much to love with all of them though let’s be real

Too many people wanna play it safe when is comes to talking about anything having to do with JC since he was problematic… but he’s undeniably one of the best to EVER do it in the scene period. And by far DGD’s best vocalist no debate. So naturally those albums should have a higher rank

And I think I'd have to go (order of ranking starting with my current most favorite[s]): Mothership, Afterburner, Jackpot Juicer, Artificial Selection, Downtown Battle Mountain, DBM2, Self-Titled, Instant Gratification (would rank higher because of "We Own the Night" and "Death of a Strawberry" but there's really only a few songs I listen to on this album), Happiness, Whatever I Say Is Royal Ocean (could rank higher because of "Robot with Human Hair Pt. 1 & 2" but don't really listen this much anymore), Acceptance Speech.

Great vid, only disagreement I have is Royal Ocean. Recording didn’t do it Justice, that cd captured their raw talents, if you were there in the sac/norcal area during the screamo phase, that cd was a staple in your life, they killed it live and that cd was like the souvenir you got to take home to remember them lol

The nostalgia WISIRO gives me is just unmatched. Not ny favorite album but it was my first taste of them back in 2008 and Ive been listening to them ever since. 100 percent agree with you

Yeah i gotta agree DGD only gets better, but the jonny craig era was the best of the best, literally the best of its genre

I could never use this scale to rank DGD, it's just too much of a drop between "pretty good" and "meh" in my opinion (and probably also between pretty good and god tier too! i would rank them probably something like: S Tier: DBM1, Deathstar/Untitled, Mothership A Tier: DBM2, Instant Gratification B Tier: WISIRO, Artificial Selection, Acceptance Speech, Happiness C Tier: Afterburner D-F Tier: Nothing, because they can't put anything shitty like that. Didn't feel like ranking Tree City Sessions or singles etc. Also I put WISIRO down in B while I honestly like it enough for it to be A-tier, I just feel like it's showing its age a bit too much to put it higher. Also Afterburner would be an B-tier or A-tier if the entire tracklist was as good as some of my favorite tracks on that album, there are just a lot of misses for me on that album. Same goes for Acceptance Speech, some fantastic tracks, some are somewhat meh, so I had to put it at B.

Afterburner just felt hollow and uninspired. Definitely C tier. I’m hoping that the addition of Andrew Wells will give them their drive and inspiration back.

I'm gonna have to go through and listen to the old stuff now.

To think what is going to be of DGD now that Tilian's gone. I'm pretty excited though, you haven't been a DGD fan if you didn't go through some kind of lineup change haha

S:Afterburner(Hits a sweetspot for me), Self-titled(introduced me to Kurt and his godly melodies), JJ(It feels like a mix of all tillian albums) A:DBM2(Has some godly vocals from Jonny and jon love this one), Mothership(I enjoyed this one a lot at first but it lost a lot of my intrest when I found afterburner), Happiness(First album I heard with my first song being Carl Barker!) B:ArSe(This one was hard to rank I love all the songs on this album especially evaporate but it feels a little less from the other albums), IG(First album I listened to when i finally got into DGD love the songs but feels super simplistic On The Run is gold) C:DBM1(I must say Jonny's vocals are good however I didnt find it memorable despite listening to this album 20+ times I just dont enjoy it other than Lemon Mergiune Tie and Times New Roman), WISIRO(feels messy but raw I like it for that but it just doesnt sit well with me other than robot pt.1

Judging from this, I'm assuming Jackpot Juicer is your new #1. I can't complain if it is, it truly is one of their best right behind Mothership for me!

The robot with human hair pt 1 is a treasure. And the beginning of quite the adventure. The fade from untitled to And i told them is such a good time. Kurt did amazing, carve and carl barker taught me guitar.

Now you gotta make it with jackpot juicer. So many fucking bangers on that album

Nah Royal Ocean was a different tier , absolute flame

Jonny Craig albums in god tier, Kurt Travis in pretty good and everything with Tilian in meh. Although it might be attributed to me kind of growing out of DGDs style of music while the first couple of records still hold a massive amount of nostalgia to me and I revisit them every winter.

tcs was recorded in a studio and engineered to sound "live" but none the less were recorded at Pus Cavern Studios I can only assume that tcs2 got the same treatment. the live stream we saw of tcs2 was not "live", it was them preforming what it would look like for them to play the songs live to preciously recorded tracks

The band wouldn't exist anymore if Downtown Battle Mountain wasn't such a hit record. It's god-tier for that reason alone, AND it was easily the best post-hardcore of that time period and still holds up to this day. oof Not to mention, they literally created the genre of swancore at the same time as far as I know.

I love jackpot juicer. I want to make a video about all my thoughts but I haven't figured out the way I want to do it yet. it might be a whole album review. and once there are enough new albums to justify a new ranking I will make an update most likely.

Yeah I pretty much agree with this, I will say that I think jackpot juicer is probably 4th below afterburner, artificial selection, and mothership. Tilians lyrics are sad and that makes me sad. Jon is really good though

I’m an og fan and DTM and DTM II are God Tier. I’m so sick of having to argue this, man.

JPJ is wayy better than i anticipated tbh it got me back into tilian after falling off before mothership. Stroke god millionaire and the death of the robot was sophmore year for me. 2014 was so good.

It’s how I found out about dgd. Old show on Fuse. ( A tv channel about music trying to compete with mtv and vh1 in the 00’s 10’s) and mark hoppus (bass player/ singer for blink 182) hosted the show and highlighted dgd on an episode and the rest is history. I was like 14 at the time I think.

Also it had a few different names. A different spin with mark hoppus was the original and then they changed it to the spin I think.

Personally didnt really enjoy listening to any DGD albums post Acceptance speech. I love all their early releases but thats probably because I first heard them in 2007 so some nostalgia I guess lol.

Wait. Someone holds basically the same opinion! I sort of liked some melodies and Jonny/Mess back and forth in passing with Royal Ocean until this year when I got a nice amp and headphones. Might be my favorite now, top 2 with Dbm. I just KEEP coming back to it. Previously to this, I think the mixing was too rough to dive in. I'd probably switch happiness with Acceptance Speech but they're close depending on mood. I like deathstar/mothership slightly over IG but you pretty much nailed it for me

Maybe it's me getting older but I've felt that every album after Mothership has just kind of been meh. I used to get very excited about new dgd albums, I would never know what to expect. Everything is so structured and polished now and feels sterile (this is something very common in today's music imo). I feel like they've plateaued and every album is just a continuation of the same thing.

My favorite band does get better with every album. And that is DGD

Afterburner blows.

I think if their older stuff wasn't mixed like utter trash I'd like it a lot more. DGD's kinda out there for my tastes but the crazy good experimentation and musicianship hooked me on their later releases. Artificial Selection, Mothership, and Afterburner are all solid records

WISIRO is better than Acceptance Speech. Musically Tilian doesn't bring anything to the table, and the rest of the group fell off afterward. For me every album before Tilian is tied for 1st.
