Bahrain should be considered a modern classic, it has provided so many good races and good moments and it's crazy to think the race is almost 20 years old

I agree but its biggest problem in my opinion is lack of atmosphere for a season opener, it kinda feels just right to start in colorful Australia with a lot of fans cheering on from the grandstand In Bahrain you don't even realise there are any fans and most of the circuit is completely empty

I think that the 2020 Bahrain GP is so high up, since some people thought it meant the far more exciting Sakhir GP

exactly, if the Sakhir GP was part of the vote it would easily be top 3, but the regular 2020 Bahrain GP was mundane

Fun fact about 2005's Bahrain GP - there was no celebration on podium that day because of pope John Paul's death. Being Catholic, Alonso and Trulli didn't want to open champagne.

Good ranking, I'd personally put 2006 in 2nd right behind 2014, it was incredibly eventful for a season opener - Iconic duel between Alonso/Schumacher to mark their rivalry over the season - Rosberg's astonishing comeback on debut indicative of his talent and a great career ahead - Raikkonen starting last but on a 1-stop surging to 3rd not too far behind the leaders - Unusually for the aero-heavy era, a lot of overtakes throughout the race - Massa's spectacular spin which as Peter pointed out nearly changed the entire fate of the GP - An enormous engine detonation for Jacques Villeneuve - Yuji Ide's... antics - Fisichella's swearing on team radio being broadcast on live TV across the world! 😂

what a year 2010 was. its probably nostalgia talking since 2009 was the first season i watched in full and got excited about, and was absolutely F1 mad by 2010.. but my god, what a year for team pairings. also yes, it's me, the Bahrain Endurance layout fanboy.

The robot wars reference made me happy. Miss that show

2014 is deservedly seen as the best race at Bahrain, though I think 2022’s is a close second. Hard racing between Hamilton and Rosberg back when they were still friends was something else though

@@OumuamuaOumuamua Of all the F1 rivalries which could be adapted for a movie, I don’t believe there are many better than Hamilton vs Rosberg. There’s so much material, great on track action, and a genuinely satisfying story from both sides, albeit a tragic one in the sense that their friendship was torn apart with (from the looks of things) little chance for it to be repaired

@@AlexanderDiviFilius I agree, their battles from 2014-2016 were something else and made the narrow body hybrid era very interesting. It really does have a movie arc too, friends who eventually becomes rivals, one winning over and over again until the other one comes out on top with luck and sheer determination

2010: that was a hell of a list of firsts. The ratings show the people voting either just started watching F1 or don’t remember races more than a year or two old.

I think a lot of us may agree of suffering from recency bias with these kinds of things. Nothing to be guilty about, I'm open about it too, especially since I wasn't watching back in the 2000s. I was very interested to see what the viewers thought, most surprisingly how 2020 was so high (I put it 17th for obvious reasons, although maybe people thought Sakhir). I think it'd be great if you put your ranking maybe at the end and compare it to the viewers if you decided to do this again.

My favourite one was grosjean on gas mark 10, walking out the flames like a god.

Since it became a night race it has produced a lot more interesting races.

2010: it was a return to Ferrari engines for Sauber, not exactly their first race.

I love this as the opener. Especially at night! It's so awesome and a really cool track. Hot take: turn 1-2 complex is in the top 3 best of the season

Not a Bahrain GP but the Sakhir GP in 2020 was a real rollercoaster of a race and would place highly on this list too.

You can moan about this track but it's one of the bests ones in recent years amd racing there is always amazing

Good idea though I do suspect this approach will have a heavier weighting to new fans as well as recency bias. But solid list nonetheless tbf

8:42 - Say what you want about Alonso, but when it comes to on track, he’s the least dirty and cleanest wheel to wheel racer in F1 history by a long shot. The guy has basically no famous contacts or crashes.
