3 things that are forever: death, taxes, and Van Halen arguments.

Mugs, “Jump” was a Billboard No. 1 single and one of the biggest songs in a year of Thriller! 😆 it was an international smash hit on the radio AND mtv

I'm a 50 year VH fan. I personally rate them the way they came out meaning All the Roth stuff is at the top😂. Before the Sammy guys come after me understand I like Sam but it was just a different band. Very F@#king Good, just different. Eds playing was So F@#king Raw in the Roth years. I Loved those albums. 5150 was Awesome and 0U812 was great too. But I'll personally take that Raw Energy they had with Roth. There's No Wrong list. Listen to what you like. JMO

Fair Warning is a huge favorite amongst old school VH fans. Those VH fans who were late to the game and did not get on board until the Sammy era, perhaps even 1984, preferred the more poppy tunes. If one does not like Fair warning then they lack class and taste.

Great reaction, I agree with most of your list, but I would put Diver Down higher and 5150 lower.

Wish I would have realized this was going live! Sorry to have missed it Mugs. Great job as usual. (Glad you remembered lotion! LOL) Diver Down is a keeper for me because of "Cathedral" - one of my very favorites songs, and "Little Guitars". I fight you - Diver Down is not poopy, and I say it needs to come up 1 or 2 tiers.

I consider Little Guitars a top 10 (maybe top 5) VH song, I’ve always said that if you took the best of VH II and Diver Down and put them together it would rival VH 1. Of course I agree that Diver Down is the weakest of the (only) six VH albums, not sure what those other ones are.

Van Halen had 2 weeks to make diver down so that’s why there was so many cover songs

He knows that. What he doesn’t realize is that Van Halen had years of catalogue that built VH1, VH2, WACF, and Fair Warning… and each of those albums were also make on short notice while the band was touring non stop. Diver Down was the product of the band literally running out of old songs they wrote during their club days, and being forced to do whatever they could to appease the record label. They literally had to make the album half covers because they didn’t have time to write a full album in two weeks… but even the originals they put down were amazing songs Then next thing you know the label gave them a year for an album and guess what… their most popular album shows up. The worst thing about all of this tho is that the stress of literally creating 6 top level albums in 7 years meant that Dave and Ed hated eachother due to stress and pressure. (Which isn’t uncommon… the Beatles only lasted 7 years due to stress and pressure) But I’d say outside of the Beatles… Van Halen might have the best 7 year run of any band ever

I really enjoyed this video. Here are my rankings: God Tier: Van Halen 1, 5150, Fair Warning, 1984; Upper Class: Van Halen 2, OU812, F.U.C.K., Women and Children First Good Vibes: Diver Down, Balance Solid: A Different Kind of Truth Booty Liquid: Van Halen 3 ------ So key disagreements for me. The first two tracks on Women and Children First are elite, but most of the rest of the album was underwhelming. I like Diver Down better than you liked it because Little Guitars and Where Have all the Good Times Gone are the kinds of tracks you return to over and over. Secrets is an underrated track. Cathedral is an innovative as it comes with a guitar and as far as covers go Pretty Woman and Dancing in the Street are both pretty good. I think Balance has some deep grooves that I really enjoy. Seventh Seal, Amsterdam, and Don’t Tell Me What Love Can Do are all solid. F.U.C.K. is completely hit and miss for me. Runaway Poundcake, Right Now, Standing on Top of the World are all awesome. I found the rest of the album underwhelming. I find the entire A Different Kind of Truth album forgettable. Not unpleasant, but nothing u would go out of my way to listen to. This exercise thought reminded me how much great music VH produced. It reminded me why they were my favorite band as a teen. Thanks.

None of the first 4 albums fall below upperclass. From there we can argue for which is best of the 4. But the 1st album set the bar so high that nothing could really exceed it... match it? Mmm, maybe.

VH3 is not a VH album. It's an Edward Van Halen musical odyssey . EVH plays ALL instruments with the exception of Neworld piano. It's a headphones chill album from the genius that is EVH.

Agree that more than any other, VH3 was Ed's baby. Except the incomparable Alex is on Without You, One I Want, Fire in the Hole, Ballot or the Bullet, Dirty Water Dog, Year to the Day, -- therefore Band Van Halen (since he and Ed are the genesis.) If people are on the fence about this album they should watch the live Sydney, Australia concert '98 to appreciate it more - Year to the Day is a masterpiece! VH3 is great live.

84 was the best selling Roth album and the only one that hit number 1. The top tier for me is Van Halen 1, Fair warning, 5150 and 84. Second tier Van Halen 2, Fuck, 0u812, and Balance. Third tier Women children first and Diver down. Then Different kind of truth. And the worst by far is Van Halen 3!

1984 did not hit No. 1, my friend. It got to No. 2. Thriller owned No. 1 for a very long time.
