Range Report: Diamondback DB-15 (Sometimes you get what you pay for)

In this Range Report I review the DB-15 rifle from Diamondback Firearms. This is an affordable entry level carbine that has a spotty reputation but offers many users familiar options with standard AR-15s. This firearm seems to have a few issues with it and I discover them as I get it to the range. This video documents my person thoughts, opinions and experiences with this rifle. Yours may vary.

I'm not a brand fan boy by any means, I just want the guns to work properly. And I have to say the DB15 I have worked Perfect right out of the box. Just my 2 cents

I've owned 3 diamondbacks. 2 AR-15 and ar10. All them ran great never had an issue or any problems. My ar10 was 308 and stainless steel barrel

I won a DB15 from a VFW raffle a year and a half ago. Runs smooth for me, I even replaced my circa 2008 Bushmaster with it.

My DB15 works great. It literally eats all the ammo I put in it. Just keep it clean and take care of it. It's a great rifle.

Had no issues with mines. Cheap doesn't mean bad and expensive doesn't mean good. Put nearly 2000 rounds through mines with few issues. Most were ammo related and from me not cleaning it during prolong shootings. When the firearm was properly maintained and lubricated it ran flawlessly. Any issues and link to this video should be sent to Diamondback Firearms?

I just bought a diamondback db15 at the local hardware, $480. It came with an magpul stock and grip. It does seem to run a little over gassed, but am thinking about changing to a heavier buffer. So far I am happy with the purchase.

I resigned from Diamondback 3weeks ago. I was a quality technician and CMM programmer. I left on very good terms. I’m sorry for the issues you have with this rifle. I can assure you that (as of three weeks ago) the locations and diameters of the release pin holes, the safety selector switch hole and the trigger pin holes are being inspected per sample inspection of each lot of 100 lowers. The diameters are measures with calibrated pin gages and the locations are measured with a programmable height gage (Tesa Hite). This was not always the case, but it is now. The uppers are purchased and could contribute to or be the problem for the release pins. On my last day Diamondback had just machined their firs upper. It will be meticulously inspected on a Zeiss CMM and all the bugs worked out before they go into full production. They may be in production now, I don’t know. With diamondback controlling both lowers and upper, these issues will go away. As far as the hand guard goes, Diamondback has five CNC’s dedicated to machining hand guards. They mak many different designs. Some are larger. You should look up the new Obsidian model. It has the larger diameter hand guard. I want one of those. I wish I could address the over gassing issue, but I cannot. The barrels are machined in another facility that is close by. I have worked there a couple of times, but I was just filling in for the vacationing QA tech there. The triggers are purchased. Some models have far better triggers. (The “Diamond” and “Black Gold” models)

I just forwarded this and my previous comment to the Diamondback QA director and QA manager. The QA manager responded to me that the “over gassing” issue has recently been brought up to him. He suspects that it may be a barrel issue. I’m no longer there, but I suspect this will be investigated and corrected very soon. Thank you for this review, though it’s not what I want to hear. Please don’t give up on Diamondback. They are moving rapidly to being a supreme quality gun at a very good price.

I have a DB15 16” in .300 Blackout. I’ve got just over 700 rounds through it and it has been flawless.

I've had my DB15 for almost 4 years and it always functions perfectly. The accuracy is very good especially with heavier bullets. Never had a single jam, stovepipe or any feed issues whatsoever.

I just bought a higher end model. I hope I don’t have these issues when I get it.

My DB15 runs great. Came with Magpul furniture. No over gas, no loose trigger pin and my take down pin can be done with my fingers.

Nice video as always. I have a DB15, only problem was the hand guard was crooked, rather the mounting of it was crooked I think. I losened it up and retighten it still the front was off center. Didn't even bother putting on iron sights, just went straight with a red dot. Otherwise no complaints about it. Quite accurate for a "low budget" MSR. I bought it as a comparison to my PSA builds... but must say my builds are about as good or even better. But still love my DB15, because it's my. Stay safe Big Jay.
