Cobb's comedic timing and intellect were exceptional. What a great interview.
i personally met "Tex" way back when in the 90s in Philly. Totally personable , funny, and quite a big son of a gun. shook his hand and thought he must have been wearing a catchers mitt on it. im not small , but his hand completely engulfed mine. we kept our restaurant open after hours to accomodate him & his people and he rewarded us handsomely for doing so. I called him Mr. Cobb , to wit he quickly told me that his daddy is Mr. Cobb, and that we should call him Tex. class act and a humble & entertaining man.
Cobb could have been a pro comedian. He would not even need any prepared material. His mind is that quick, his story telling exquisite, and his timing perfect.

LMFAO! What a pile of BULLSHIT! Literally the first words out of Letterman's mouth in his introduction, proclaims Tex as "One of the brightest and funniest boxers!" Definition of Bright "someone of obvious intelligence." Christ, funny as hell when people try to sound insightful or superior at someone else's expense and just end up obnoxious and dim.
I never realized how witty, smart, and personable Randall was.
I'm 50 years old and I can't believe that I never heard more about and researched Tex before now. I've seen him in a few movies but never knew he was a professional boxer and professional karate fighter as well. What I love the most about him is his personality. He's one of the toughest and baddest men to ever walk the planet. I think what makes his humorous personality and friendly nature is his knowing how dangerous he is and what damage he could do if he wanted to. His laugh is also very contagious. He's also very intelligent along with everything else. He may have lost against Larry Holmes, but he went all 15 rounds with Holmes, only 2 other people at that time could claim that title. I really enjoy watching his interviews!

At the time he lived in the Vanderbilt area of Nashville Tennessee and this of course is where I was born and raised and how I came to meet him. I thought that was him from the thumbnail. That character gave me nightmares as a kid. I also went to school with a kid named Randall Cobb. He had a giant outie belly button. It was as big around as a quarter and stuck out just as far.
This was a joy to watch. Always loved him in Raising Arizona.
His honesty is refreshing cool dude
You can see in the first interview why he went on to become an actor. Tex had a very laid back, easy going attitude, great sense of humour and actually came across as very intelligent. I'm only disappointed that he never really became a big star and only had bit parts on screen but I'm sure he has had a nice life.

Cobb is terrific. Him and Dave's comments about full contact karate and kick boxing was a foreshadowing of what was to come with MMA and UFC.
Remember watching "Uncommon Valour" and seeing Mr Cobb do a kick to Pat Swaz head and think it impressive for a big guy to lift his leg with that level of flexibility. Then found out he was a boxer and karate pro. Witty guy out of the ring.

Tex is a riot, great fighter and great ambassador for boxing
The beatdown this man took from Holmes and still be standing at the end was just... WOW... Tough as they come... 😲😲
As you gain experience with people and their personalities you come to realize that people who are truly badasses don't have to act the part. Most of the time they tend to come off as nice people with a funny side like this guy. He's got a great personality and I never saw that fight until decades later on KZread and I never really knew much about him.
Howard Cossell supposedly said to Tex something like "the beating you took from Larry Holmes was so terrible I will never announce another fight" Cobb said something like "if you promise you'll give up announcing Monday night football I'll go in and do another 15 rounds with Larry"
Salt of the Earth. Best laugh I ever heard. Just makes Joy and smiles.
Tex is a big dude. Notice in 1st appearance he is sitting up straight and rigid. But as he gets more comfortable he lounges back relaxed. Letterman could be a nightmare to be interviewed by but he was awesome with Tex
You gotta Love Tex!!!!! Letterman is such a punk. Only fought him once, sparing…damn he is just one tough guy and one of the most honorable men in the world. Simply special.
I never knew about Tex. Only from raising Arizona. No idea he was a boxer. Took a chance on this video and raised my eyebrows more than once at how well he handled this show and how articulate he was. Just nice to be surprised every now and then.
Letterman: you never wore sunglasses after the fight like most boxers do , Tex Cobb: well it was night time
He sure does have a lot of charisma.
I use to train out a gym in upper darby PA. And randy tex cobb was running a boxing lesson. I met him and he took interest in me when he saw my right hand. He showed me how to the throw the right hand with 75% more power. Awsome guy.
I met Randall around the late 70s at the San Juan gym in El Paso.. my grandfather introduced me to him.. it's good to see another fan of Randall Tex Cobb... Randall was a big part of my grandfather's life
I'm shocked any professional boxer took matches with Tex. This guy was a tank with heavy armor who could hurt you bad if you made a mistake. Beating him meant going many rounds and taking a lot of punishment to do so. He seems like a great guy, smart, witty and one tough sob!

Maybe you boxed, my dad was a pro and I have been in the ring and I know what you are saying is 100% true. Top fighters hope to knock the other fighter out in the first round or three but with someone like Tex Cobb they knew they would have to put in 15 rounds, 45 minutes of the worst kind of work, and very dangerous the whole time, people should look up how long both Ali and Frasier were in the hospital after they fought. One time I finish fighting a guy and everyone rushed over to congratulate me it was like I won hands down. but I was thinking, " Man I feel like arguing the point with them, about who had won." The best example though is when Evander Holyfield fought George Foreman, and won but it was close and Evander said he wondered if he himself might be one of those who dies during the fight. He said Foreman hit way harder than Mike Tyson. He would know, and sometimes a win can be incredibly painful.
