Randall Head to Head RH200SC and RG100es
Jump to 4:57 for the rg100es
I did not edit this at all like I said I would. Oh well. Just having some fun riffin and showcasing the strength of these old Randall’s. The RH200 is somewhere around 20 years old and the RG is of course in its mid 30’s.
Both boosted with an Ibanez TS9 Reissue, and tightened up with the isp decimator on the noise gate.
Hard to choose a favorite, they both sound incredible to me.

I was surprised how good the RH sounds, really. But the first 2 seconds of the RG left no questions remaining.

Yea there is a certain refinement to the old RG. A certain mojo in the voicing, but the rh is no slouch! I think most Randall’s are ready for a fight right outta the gates. Thanks for watching!!
That looks just like my RH100 Randall head ,solid metal ,with no pedal !! Love it !!

Ofcourse D tuning sounds unreal! Love those old Randall’s pity we don’t get Randall’s here in Australia
Both sound amazing. The RG has more of a “classic” top-end brightness to my ear, maybe inspired by the JCM800. The RH’s gain is smoother in the top end and sounds more refined overall with more low-end punch. Are the amps running into separate cabs with different speakers? Both sound awesome regardless.

Yessir they are different speakers in the separate cabs. This exercise was just for fun really, enjoying the monstrous tone these Randall’s put out

Dont get you at all. Got both, tube and ss amps. Same with Randalls, got g2 and g3, g3 uses vacuum tube in preamp. G2 is fully solid. They go on the left channel. On right channel I'm using jcm and 5150 and I got no clue what you mean by sorry tubes. Can you explain me why tube amps seems for you no good for riffs? Maybe I will learn something I don't know about them...

Sounds awesome! The rg100es is best, it's just so in your face and mean. The rh 200 compared sounds polite lol. I bet a para eq in the loop will bring out that mid range push from the rh.

Hi. Thanks for the great video, and awesome playing! I have one question. What cab and speakers did you use for each amp in this video, and what pickup is that? Is it SD DimeBucker? Sorry on my bad English.

Hey there, thank you for the comment!! The rh200 has a generic Marshall cab and I’m not entirely sure what speakers are in it. And for the RG100es, the camo Schroeder cab has celestion g12t 75’s and the Diezel 2x12 underneath it has v30’s. I have a Wilde pickups (bill and Becky Lawrence) L500XL in the red V

Just a tubescreamer and a noise gate up front, on the tube screamer I have the gain at 0 and the level and tone maxed out. Pushes the Randall and makes it breathe fire. Different year rg100es kinda sound different too, I have two earlier ones 1984 and an ‘85 you see in the video. Both have black tolex. I think the later 80’s ones had carpet on the outside and I hear they sounded a little different from the black tolex models. Can’t confirm myself tho 🥂
had a ster chorus sold it and a 120. randall had a few amps.
Hey dude, i've been meaning to ask somebody about tube screamers and solid state amps. I haven't really gotten to try out an actual tube screamer pedal in front of my Randall RG80 combo but i usually use something along the lines of an SD-1 or any similar asymmetrical clipping diode overdrive (primarily a Zoom G1XON but i'd love to look around for some replacements for a real pedal setup one day) to boost my amp to tighten things up in the low end, while retaining the dynamics that you would typically get with solid state amps while retaining that consistent gain structure. I've noticed that with tube screamers in front of my amp, it makes the response of the amp feel kind of flat and sterile in comparison. Have you ever compared the two pedals in front of a solid state amp or noticed anything similar with different overdrives? Both of those amps sound sick btw. It would be really cool to see the two blended together in a mix.
@PeterTheDestroyer

Actually the only pedal I really have is the ts9 reissue. I do have a silver mxr 6 band that I’ll sometimes use for a second guitar track but without the rest of dimes signal chain the mxr doesn’t add as much girth to the tone. I’d love to hear some other od pedal options in front of these amps. I’ll have to ask around and see if any of my friends have something I could borrow

I used solid state heads before with a sd1 and now have a tube head. The sd1 adds more aggressiveness compared to a tubescreamer. Toss in a bbe sonic stomp maximizer and 10 band eq and you’ll have a nasty heavy tone

@@jacobgarcia2660 that's almost the exact same rig that i run holy fuck I use an Exciter on a Zoom MS50G in the loop of a Randall RG80 combo, and i'm planning on trying to snag an RG100 or an RG150 ualf stack somewhere down the line. I love it so much more than tube guitar tones even!
