Rand McNally OverDryve 8 Pro Review - It's A Highway Vlog # 83

Rand McNally OverDryve 8 Pro Review
We've had our second-hand Rand McNally OverDryve 8 Pro Truck GPS for two months now, and thought it would be a good time to do a review video. The OverDryve 8 Pro is Rand McNally's latest version of their popular 8" truck GPS unit. Primarily designed for truck drivers, the OverDryve 8 Pro is a table-based GPS, that also includes various other features such as a dashcam, ELD functions as well as a built-in Sirius XM radio.
In this video, we take a closer look at the OverDryve 8 Pro. We cover the main features of the unit but primarily focus on GPS functionality. We talk about our likes and dislikes and give our final verdict on the product.

    I have the same GPS. I find that if you want bypass around a major city. Go into the truck settings and tell it that your hauling hazamat and it will route you around the city. When once you get around the major city change back to non hazamat in the truck settings. Works everytime!! In most major cities, hazmat cargo cannot travel through downtown cities.

    That would usually do the trick! In most cases, it will route you around the major cities if you have it set to hazmat.

    I still use my TND720. It works fine without all the hiccups. Of course none are flawless, but Rand is trying to cram too much into these devices. In doing so, they are creating too many issues while the quality control and popularity is dropping. Unfortunate from one of the "leaders" in mapping and navigation. They need to stick to making a good quality truck GPS without all the extra crap, most of which requires WiFI...an added expense. Simple, easy to use, accurate and reliable. That's really all professional drivers want. Leave the tablets, cameras, computers, gaming, SAT radio, ELD's, etc. to other specialized vendors.

    Totally agree on just needing a good reliable no frills unit that works. We do love the 8" screen, just makes it easier to see for us "well aged" models, lol.

    I run three States out of Reno, NV. 48 foot Refer for fresh produce. Im using the same unit. Can’t live without it in SF Bay area, LA, and with picks way out in farm country. I use it mostly for the T by T Guidance. And have experienced the same issues and problems as yourselves. It doesn’t freeze up like the older model, but will shut down without any warning. Thats not fun. Wish it could be set to avoid downtown areas and take me around congested cities. For example Twin Falls, ID. Lots of truck roads there, but it sends me through the busy streets every time. Always runs me through towns and cities even though a faster truck route is available. All in All, its worth the money. Just have to get use to it. I’d buy it again. You Nice Folks look very familiar. We may have talked at a Truck Stop somewhere. Great Video, Thanks and Happy Trails. Take Care.😊

    Do they fall apart too? Rand McNally gps’s separate after a while I have no idea why. It’s seems to be a common complaint about their products.

    It has very very nice features, but since am on dedicated run and always running to the same place I know where to stop for breaks, lunch, 10 hour reset, fuel, etc. As a matter of fact I don't even need a GPS anymore but I still use my 150 dollar garmin GPS lol

    Question. Does this GPS give you the option to create multiple stops? And the GPS puts them in the order that’s most efficient.

  • @ItsAHighwayVlog

    @ItsAHighwayVlog

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes you can have multiple stops. You can rearrange them manually, or it can automatically optimize up to 10 stops. Honestly have never tried the optimize option as we usually are only going from point to point.

    Perfect. I’m a semi driver that never leaves the state. When you have 4 stops in a major city it would be handy for Rand to put them in order so your not criss crossing all over the city. Thanks

    @@ItsAHighwayVlog thank you so on your honest opinion is this better then the tnd 740 or should I go with that or the Garmin dezl?

  • @GODANMEDIA
    @GODANMEDIA4 жыл бұрын

    Maybe I should wait for vs. 9. I’m current using 740 and it has 80 percent same features minus camera My big gripe is no ability to blow up the text. Like numbers for mileage. Do you have the ability with OD8 ? Or is the 8” screen making that scale up?

  • @ItsAHighwayVlog

    @ItsAHighwayVlog

    4 жыл бұрын

    The OD8 screen gives you the ability to zoom in but does not really work so well for being able to see the numbers any better as they resize. On certain screens, they made the font smaller, so in some cases, it's actually harder to see. Still, easier to see than the 7" tablets and much better than the regular GPS.

  • @GODANMEDIA

    It's A Highway Vlog they told me a way to blow up the sub menus in the Android is but it only blows up the os text. Sometimes companies forget the basics. Thanks for the advise. I think I will be buying one soon if they don’t release 9 anytime soon. I almost have enough points to not pay anything

    0 oo0 I must have mistyped. I’m assuming I meant to say model 90 vs. the current 85. However that said. I’ve decided on model Tnd 750 launched 2 weeks ago but only available from Rand McNally online store. I’m using fuel points I saved and it’s not been released to vendors outside Rand McNally store yet

    Just bought a new one of those pieces of JUNK!! It sometimes tells you to turn right, yet the picture shows a left turn. It will also tell you to take a right when you're on an interstate! It will guide to not take an exit sometimes, though when coming up to a fork in the road, it says NOTHING!! 70% PLUS speed limits are INCORRECT. If you call their support line and they don't want to deal with your problem, they will simply HANG UP on you! Should I go on??

    They have been OK for us over the years, but there are definitely some major quality control / design issues. For what we pay for them, they really should last longer.

    I just bought mine and paid over $500 for the Love's truck stop. The GPS doesn't even work on it. I've done everything that the instructions say do about Bluetooth. And I can't even take the thing back because it's an electronic device . It's as is when you buy it. So to prove it doesn't work I went on Amazon and I bought a $67 trucker GPS map system and it worked just fine. In conclusion Miss Rand McNally is a piece of junk. They should stick with paper maps.
