I think this song talks about struggling with a hard addiction or fear. Even if you're able to quell it, it dwells in your head and remains a part of you forever.

The first comment I leave in your channel and I think this deserves the drop. Just think of one little detail, Rammstein were born in East Germany. This is a very poetic, almost romantic yet fucked up way to depict history - the Berlin Wall. There is no mad dude and a girl, this is an entire city and the true fact events. That fucking wall separated the city in two in a matter of days. One side was the garden, exposed to capitalism and what the new Europe was becoming, the other side was kept in the dark. Perhaps my favorite poem from Rammstein (together with Keine Lust and Dalai Lama, and they 3 come from the same album so say no more)

interesting interpretation, but in one of the interviews they said that this is a song about people who wall themselves up in a relationship. Like they stop communicating with friends, spend all the time together and stop living their own lives, devoting all the time only to these relationships. The classic "don't go out with your friends, you have me"

As usual there are multiple ways to interpret the Rammstein song. It might be about East Berlin / East Germany before the wall literaly falls - as some other comments already mentioned. It could also be a metaphor for toxic relationships where one part destroys the social contact of the other. Unlike some other songs (like Wiener Blut (terrible background case)) I'm not aware of a true crime story as inspiration for this song.

I heard this song is a metaphor for them growing up in the eastern part of germany which was walled in as former DDR/GDR under soviet regime. And the garden he is talking about is the West.

I think he has a ptsd moment at the end of this performance because he covers his ears and screams a bit more. Richard sees him and does a longer riff to cover. Till just throws down the mike and leaves quickly. Probably a direct memory of GDR.

To me its pretty obvious a metaphor for a toxic relationship. There is no house built or "the wall". Its all about isolating someone, jealousy, dependency...only cause its rammstein with their history u might think about east/west germany. But here this is defently not the case (in my opinion).

There are certainly several interpretations for this song. Rammstein being steeped in culture (German in particular), I personally think that this song is related to many legends written on the subject of the imprisonment of women. As they often do, they have therefore updated and modernized this theme. Moreover, Till's stage interpretation is quite exceptional. He is a leading tragedian and in this he is a worthy heir to classical Greek tragedy.

It's about narcissists-men who oppress their partners and abuse them throughout their lives, and no one notices. “Scream, you have your feet in the concrete” and a house and a living space are built on top of it. "stone by stone"

I believe that it's not about physical abuse or murder but I personally believe that it's more about emotional/ mental abuse..you cant see the light you feel even more trapped because who can see emotional abuse? You feel walled in... the beutiful garden is you smiling on the outside and showing everyone how happy you are but inside your dying and crying out for help...Some think that emotional and mental abuse aren't real, that it's no big deal...but actually it's worse than physical abuse..yes getting hit it hurts, but the pain is only temporary...the stinging will subside..the bruise will fade... your body will heal, but being told your worthless and stupid everday for so long that you actually start believing it yourself now that stays with you and the pain is even worse because it gets into your subconscious and its very hard to reverse years and years of negativity constantly being hammered into you...

The difference between the stage/pyro from this era of Rammstein and LIFAD is like world's apart. I appreciate volkerball but they hit something special with LIFAD tour.

@@jezza117 I'm pretty biased as well. My first concert was at the festival de Quebec in 2012 and that was an outdoor venue. Then I saw them in Las Vegas, and Chicago for the limited LIFAD Amerika tour. Those two concert were the best I've seen from the band. True fans made up the crowd and it was nearly flawless.

@@jezza117 It was at Rosemont indoors. All the pyro was in full effect. I remember distinctly someone throwing a drum stick at Paul during the first few opener songs (I think feuer frie) and him having the get all matrix to dodge it. I'll always remember that! The reason I say that it was for the hardcore fans because I have been back to Chicago after the limited tour run for the MIG tour. The energy was different, the crowd wasn't as into it as the LIFAD tour. Everyone in the crowd sung so LOUD in unison to every single song. Typically Du Hast is a great barometer for how well the show is being perceived/enjoyed. Every single soul in the joint put their hearts into singing along. It gave me chills and goosebumps then and still does, even thinking about it now.

No no no, not Berlin wall. Google the story of Marc Dutroux, who in 1995 imprisoned two 8-year-old girls in a cellar dungeon, r*ped them and let them starve to death, and a year later locked up 12-year-old Sabine and 14-year-old Laetitia there "without a window and without a door". The dungeon was not discovered even during a police search, although the children called for help "and no one hears you scream". The rest of the text then makes a cruel sense, "all the nails stand straigth when I ram them into your body wood" gives us an idea of what the children had to go through. A very terrible story in Belgium, in the mid-90s. @ 5:10 you can hear the children scream... de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Dutroux
