Still so much treasure to discover with Rammstein. Donaukinder is one of them❤

The video, the guitar solo, the lyrics.... made me shed tears😢. What a powerful song, and the chorus with the children voices broke me💔 I learned something new today. Rammstein, thank you, and D, thank you. Now we know what happened. But a war with nature itself is a march into death. Terrible, truly terrible. It's a sad song with a heartbreaking message, but, as you said: "If it don't hurt, it's not real. And Rammstein is real." This might be one of your most powerful quotes, D. At least to me❤

The most underrated song they have

This song is a beast. It's was supposed to be on their album "Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da" , which had a theme of songs about different kinds of love/pleasure. But as it didn't fit the theme it became a bonus track on the special edition CD, despite being half the bands favourite song on the album

In my opinion one of the best Rammstein songs. Unfortunately rarely played live.

It has never been played, probably all "bonus songs" have never been played live. I don't think this song would suit a live performance, it's too slow and I don't think the grandeur of the sound would translate to a live version

Yeah, my mom works for a science institute here in Serbia. She is in administration, but most of her friends/colleagues are biologists/physicists/environmental scientists so they were in the field for months and months after the spill. They recall it as an unmitigated disaster. It was also right after the NATO bombing of my country so there were also unexploded cluster bombs and remains of depleted uranium bombs everywhere. You can imagine what kind of a shitshow that was and how hard all of it was to clean up

Finally someone who understood the children are symbolic for the wildlife of mother Danube and the surrounding area.

I interpret the text passage "Where are the children" as follows: Because the water was polluted, the people moved away from this place and did not come back because their livelihood (the water) was being tried. 😪 One of the best songs on the album with "Halt", too bad these two tracks are not on the "normal version" of the album, but only on the special edition. These are lyrical and musical masterpieces. 😍😍😍

If I recall , the main countries affected were Romania and Serbia, which makes it worse for poor countries that would have relied on the river for food/income , but would have all had to been burned/destroyed. But since it was a gold mining company/countries government at fault for the mining methods they used, they kinda got away with it. They still use the same process with cyanide today, just too much red tape to stop things in a poor country.

A magnificent song that reminds us that our species is the most destructive on the planet. The worst part of it is that we never learn from these disasters but still piss and moan about the consequences. I think the poignancy of the story being told is emphasised by the use of children's voices as well. Great reaction as always D.

I love it when you say it is a hidden gem... but that might be because you live in the US. In Europe the know the song... but surprisingly they do not know the disaster

Thanks for your reaction - you see how intelligent and powerful Rammstein brings so bad events of human beeing in theire songs, shows what is going wrong, or never speaking so much about bad events... and the bad about this fact is Jorunalism and some parts of green extrem feminists and public Media in Germany and Austria fight against this Band and especially Till Lindemann. This is so crazy and shattering for me. They do not understand them, or do not want to understand it. For me personally it is one of the best Band , and Till Lindemann (he writes all lyrics) a great Artist!
