Interesting Quote:
songmeanings.com/songs/view/1...
Well, it looks like it could be about sex, till you realise the German 'ihr' ('you') is plural, then it looks a lot less likely. Apart from sex, the bed seems to symbolise innocence or unconsciousness. The line "Wollt ihr mit Haut und Haaren untergehen?" (here translated "Do you want to totally go under") leaves out a potential double meaning too - 'mit Haut und Haaren' does mean 'completely', but is literally 'with skin and hair', and 'untergehen' is a euphemism for 'to perish/end'. The 'doch' that comes in twice really isn't translatable, but does give a sense of 'after all' ('you do want to stick the dagger in the sheets, after all'), so paphan could be right.
The line that confuses me is 'ihr meint euch darf die Unschuld küssen', translated correctly but ambiguously as 'You think innocence may kiss you'. This implies innocence might kiss the person in English, but in German it really means innocence is permitted to kiss the person, with 'ihr meint...' obviously negating that - innocence isn't allowed to kiss this person. Perhaps a murderer who is begging for forgiveness but can't seem to keep away from these thoughts?
The only two lines that don't seem obvious on this train of thought are 'Sex ist eine Schlacht / Liebe ist Krieg'. Any thoughts?
My idea here is that the killing isn't literal - it could mean emotional torture through arguments or bad times or people falling out. The two lines quoted above could be that it's easier to do this with someone if you like them, and the more you like them the easier it is and the more it hurts in the end. Well, just a thought.

LYRICS:
Do you want to see this bed in flames
Do you want to totally go under
You want to stick the dagger in
the sheets
You want to lick the dagger
that bleeds
Rammstein
You see the crosses on the pillow
You think innocence may kiss you
You believe killing might be hard
But where are all the dead coming from
Rammstein
Sex is a battle
Love is war
Do you want to see this bed in flames
Do you want to totally go under
You want to stick the dagger
in the sheets
You want to lick that dagger
which bleeds
Rammstein

It's (of course) subject to individual interpretation, but I always thought of the crosses and the dead as a metaphor for extinguished relationships. If love is a war, there is always someone who dies at some point. In my opinion, that's why he used the second person plural in the lyrics - he adresses the ones who are at "war" now, the ones who are in a relationship right now. And I would also guess the lyrical subject is someone who was left behind in a relationship, "talking" to his old flame and the new lover. That's pretty much on point with the theme of the whole album ("Herzeleid" = "heartache"). In the lyrics of the title song it says: "Save each other from heartache For the the time that you are together is short For even when you are one for many years Once it'll seem like minutes to you." According to an interview with Richard at loudersound, both he and Till went through hard breakups at the time. All band members were kinda frustrated (early '90s, they all came from the GDR which was no more, high unemployment rates in the area of the old GDR and all of a sudden everything you have been socialized with was worth nothing), so this is something that might have contributed to the classic Rammstein-style and the lyrics. At a time where kitschy schlager music was played all over the place and literally every evening in the german TV, I always saw Rammstein's love songs as some kind of dark parody. And "Herzeleid" is full of all types of perversions of love. This really was quite scandalous at the time.

This song, and the song 'Du riechst so gut' were Rammsteins first Hits in germany in around 1995, from the Album Herzeleid. It was also the first song i ever heard from them, and it was a musical style i never heard before, being hooked from second one. Tip: If you ever need to walk somewhere, and get there fast, put Rammstein on some headphones and start walking.

Best explanation what they want comes from Paul: "Boys just want to have fun". The original comes from Cyndi Lauper, but it explains everything Rammstein does. And they follow german goals: If you do something, make it perfect.

When applicable, i recommend doing the live versions of the early stuff from the Live Aus Berlin 1998 show or Völkerball. I got all the Live Aus Berlin songs on my channel( shameful self plug 😅) but for Seemann I recommend the 100 Jahre performance from 1996 , which has a 4k version on here. It is there 100th show as a band so you'll get see their humble beginnings. For the song "Rammstein" there is a 4k version on here from the Live Aus Berlin 1998 show. "Asche Zu Asche" and "Du Riechst So Gut" is best from Volkerball same with "Sehnsucht"
