    I believe Rambo's explosive arrow tips would be triggered by an impact on a detonator or percussion cap in the tip of the charge. His arrows would probably have been C4 or Semtex, which can be triggered by a blasting cap rigged up to detonate on impact, much like how an artillery shell is safe to handle without the fuze screwed into the tip of the shell.

    Not really. if you have a exploding arrow, you shouldnt be close period. I think the advantage of using a exploding arrow is the curve. You will be able to hit far targets without even being seen and they wouldn't know where it was coming from. with enough explosives and enough marksmen, you wouldnt even have to worry about hitting the targets directly. It would just be raining hell down from the heavens. With that type of advantage you wouldn't have to worry about a arrow flying back at you. It would seem suitable to use that on anti vehicles or destroying machinery. Otherwise it would probably be cheaper and just as effective to use a arrow.

    When I was a kid we would fill the shaft with gun powder and use Percussion Caps (use to reload shells) under the broadhead threaded shafts. When it struck a hard surface the cap would ignite the powder in the shaft and BOOM. Sometimes you had to drill out a small hole in the bottom where the arrow head screwed in to let the spark reach the powder.

    You could use a deacceleration trigger. Basically a heavy firing pin in the back, on impact inertia slams it in the primer. Can't go off at launch no matter how hard, as the force goes in the back of the casing, away from the sensitive part.

    Wayne Sligar carbon arrows are not safer that aluminum. Carbon can be really good cuz u have a lot of options for light weight arrows and very accurate arrows but if a carbon arrow gets damaged at all it is likely that it will break when you release your next shot with that arrow and if it breaks on release the shattered carbon fiber can go through your arm that is holding the bow. You can check it out if u just google broken arrow goes through arm or something like that

    Why a pressure tip detonation? An inertial detonator is much more safe and reliable, while allowing for greater penetration before detonation, as well as the use of wider range of explosives. Theoretically, you could fill the entire shaft with explosive, too, but that could potentially reduce the actual damaging effects. Blowing stuff up with arrows is still cool though.

    best bow I ever owned was a Fred Bear Magnum 48" Recurve that was rated at 56lbs at 28" draw. I draw at minimum 31" and it was more like 63lbs. That thing sent arrows faster than a 65lbs compound bow due to compound only being 50% rated weight for the first 30 - 60% of travel.

  • @Kermit_T_Frog

    @Kermit_T_Frog

    Bogus info. Compound bows do the opposite of "stacking." Heavy weight at the start of your draw, something something like a 60% LESS at full draw. A bow that stacks doesn't have nearly the power of one that does not stack. Anybody who knows anything about archery could tell you this.

    You did a much better job on your first round of design then I did when comes to making an arrow that isn't trying to return fire. The strange thing was before I figured out how to keep the arrow from flying back in my direction, it almost seemed not to matter if I was shooting straight at a target or simply shooting it up at an angle... the arrow seemed to want to find its way back to the starting point. Great video. I'm thinking that your fiberglass arrow is helping to absorb much of the return trip energy. Mine wasn't fiberglass ;-) But I did finally get the arrow to drop at the target.
