Ram Promaster City Van Conversion

This video is an overview of how we converted a 2016 Ram Promaster City so that we can camp and live in it full time. Hope you find it helpful. If you have any questions or comments, please post below.
Some have had a question about the insulation we used on this conversion - it's made by Noico and we got it through Amazon; there's the silver one mainly for sound and more solidity - www.amazon.com/Noico-deadenin...
On top of that we put the other Noico insulation, which was green, but the new one is similar; it's red: www.amazon.com/Noico-Insulati...

    This could be a great way of vegan outreach, with so many people choosing the nomadic lifestyle and sharing with audiences on KZread. I follow a Canadian couple who travel (admittedly in a larger Sprinter van) across many nations, sharing their journey - They are Vegan! They share their lifestyle and show how they cook.. They have an online global audience of over 500,000!! Thank you Dr. Tuttle and Madeline for sharing. My wife and I live in the UK and I am going through the WPD facilitation process.. slowly unfortunately :) Please more films like this, would be a great outreach. All best from a very sunny UK

    Nicely done. If you have a video of the tank installation underneath, that would be helpful. When the weather and critters permit, cooking outdoors is always a joy. However, I never found this practical on a daily basis. Of course, if you are wondering around SoCal, this is not a problem. Some electrical recommendations: 1) The switch in the fan can be replaced with a variable switch, 2) Convert your system to all DC and use DC/DC converters to power your electronics. Most basic RV appliances come in DC forms. This will save energy., and 3) Lithium batteries have a different charge profile than the lead battery by the engine. For example, lithium batteries degrade when held at full charge for prolonged periods while a lead battery prefers this. Perhaps you have a MPPT charge controller to manage the lithium battery. If you ever discover a pop-out window to replace the rear door windows, that would be famous.

    Thanks for your input & ideas... No video of the tank installation; that was the most technically challenging. The pump is inside the tank; I bolted L-braces and steel slats and mounted the tanks where the spare tire would go. You need to have an inlet, a drain cock, and an air opening for each tank - so three threaded openings on both fresh and gray water. I put a special coiled potable water hose in the rear bumper, and there's also a drain hose for the gray water tank help up there with heavy duty twist ties. Hope this helps.

    Thank you. For your video with all the details of your minicamper car. I plan to convert my car also to a minicamper. (That´s why i bought it, this month.) The size of my car looks like yours. ( Opel Combo C - made in 2007.) Your car shows many details, for what I´ve planned. ie the small sink. Mine would be flipable, so as small as possible on the wall. Also many bags made by textile = less weight. I don´t want to install so many wood, like others do, because of weight. But many isolation, for keeping warm or cool inside. (I´m in germany (middle europe) = mostly colder as in california.) I`m single, so only one bed at the left. Six feet long, and two feet wide. (I´m 5,5) Later a flipable couch, to convert it to a wider bed in five seconds. Thanks for your idea, to mount the second battery behind the front seat. My car has also many space behind the two front seats. Maybe a third battery, behind the other seat, for getting more capacity. Charging via alternator, and Solar on the outer roof (100 Watts.) My slogan: Make it simple and cheap, as possible. Greetings from sw-germany - Now winter with much snow.

    Curious to know how the organic fabric was installed. Great build!

  • @WillTuttle

    @WillTuttle

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Karen - It was installed by several methods. In some cases the fabric could be stretched and the edge put underneath rubber molding, like around windows, doors, etc., in other cases it was held in by small screws that are screwed into the metal behind (through the insulation) and in other cases glued with Elmer's glue.... Hope this helps.

    Isolator fuse connection for the Promaster City @16:18 F-17 ECM. Thank you!!! Would be hugely valuable to see the details of your isolator wiring.

  • @WillTuttle

    @WillTuttle

    3 жыл бұрын

    You're welcome! You basically run the 1-gauge wire cable from the engine battery to the isolator, and then from the isolator, thread the cable back down under the engine, and under the protective paneling (remove it and then reattach), and drill a hole to come up to the coach battery housed under the drivers' seat. Attach a 1-gauge cable from the negative post of the coach battery to the frame. You can then attach wires and fuses to go to cigar-lighter plugs for USB charging, etc., and also connect the inverter, which can be wired back to regular 110-volt plugs in the back for running blender, computer, etc. The inverter has its own on/off switch...

    Hi - the useable space distance from just behind the front seats all the way back to the back doors is 72" (6 feet) We made our bed platform main space 60" long by the roughly 55" width, and use the extra 12" in the back for the drawers and storage floor space. Hope this helps!
