Stories of Healing (10:53)
Are you ready to start playing with reality? In this beautiful and atmospheric dharma talk from 1980 in Chappell Hill, Texas, Ram Dass begins with a few stories about his guru, Maharajji, and his powers of healing. These are tales of healing maladies such as smallpox and blindness, plus a story about a devotee named Engineer Ma and her sick husband.
“In [Engineer Ma’s] mind, her anger towards those children, the inability to let go, the karma of that mind, was what led to her husband’s death.” - Ram Dass
Playing with Reality (17:30)
Ram Dass talks about death, and how saints such as Maharajji are often referred to as the Living Dead. He tells stories about miracles performed by Maharajji and other saints, and explores the ways they are all just playing with reality. There is no figuring out what role these miracles play in the dance of life, we just have to keep quieting down and emptying.
“I’ve got hundreds of these kinds of stories. See what they do to your minds. Watch how they play with what reality is about. Look at the way they give you a feeling of the whimsy of the universe.” - Ram Dass
A Little Skulduggery (34:45)
Ram Dass tells a story about one of his original teachers in India, Hari Dass Baba, and how Maharajji helped get him a visa to visit America. This leads into a story about the printing process of Be Here Now, and how Maharajji made certain that the changes he requested were incorporated into the book. Ram Dass ends the evening by reading some poetry.
“Now, would you smell a paw on the monkey in the works? Would you suspect that there was some skulduggery afoot? Or would you just say, ‘Oh well, chance works in strange and mysterious ways.’” - Ram Dass

Thank YOU! Egad - 20 minute intros for Joseph Goldstein, Jack Kornfield, and now Ram Dass? Didn’t the Buddha have important things to say about “unnecessary speech”? Irony at its finest! 😂

One of my favourite episodes. I didn’t know what to expect based on the title but it certainly wasn’t an episode full of miracles! I’ve been listening to Ram Dass while I sleep or wake up at night. Consciously or subconsciously I hear it. But for this one I stayed awake ✨

The whole game is telling a story and getting someone else to 👁️ believe it. 🤔. A lifetime having a freedom from stories frees US all to live in the Present with no need of Past or Future Th'anxieties. 😊🎯

@@keithgarbarino8247 depends on the day and how I’m feeling. Sometimes I like revisiting talks with new perspectives. Ragu was the whole reason I decided to start listening to this podcast series before I even knew what it was about. He has the same voice as my great grandfather and I haven’t been able to see him for a long time. He lives in San Fran in a home after a couple of strokes. His wife Lilly takes care of him. My great grandfather and great grandmother both grew up and met in India. My grandmothers parents were German missionaries teaching locally but also doing odds n ends like cataracts surgery or pulling rotten teeth for locals. So in a way, yeah I dig it because I just pretend it’s my family talking to me about their days in India. And if I follow Ram Dass’ teachings like he said “well to me everyone is family and that’s why I made the book so cheap” so Ragu is family so I listen. Sorry so long winded but there are also days where I’m like Raguuuuuuuuuuu bro. Ragu. Gimme my guru please.

Went to my dads the other day, stood in the kitchen immediately after arriving and saw outside a titmouse INSIDE of a bird feeder. I’ve tried to imagine how that bird got in there but can’t come to any rational answer. I can accept that it was Maharajji 😂
