RAM Cummins 2500 Emissions Recall 67A

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

$1.6 B fine by EPA against Cummins. In the video I said RAM however the fine is against Cummins. Haven't heard of any penalties on RAM as of now. What do you think?

I've been looking forward to your comments on this Marion. Thank you ! Here in California, we're concerned that without the "flash", our trucks won't pass the smog tests, thus preventing renewal of our registration. However, I found this statement from the California Air Resources Board (CARB), "Not having the recall/repair will not affect the vehicle registration". That said, my truck runs great and gets very good MPG, I'm not about to risk losing that by getting a "flash". Those of you that are old enough to remember the original Saturday Night Live, Rosanna Rosanna Danna would say " It's always something, if it's not sweat balls dripping from you nose, it's lint in your belly-button!" 🙂

Hi Marion! Hey, I just changed my CCV filter on my 2018 6.7 Cummins because the manual said 67500 miles OR 5 years. My truck has 19k miles on it, as I don't drive it except to tow (AZ mountains up to 9000 feet above sea level.) I'm glad I changed it because is was amazingly heavy with oil and the media was quite black. The replacement filter probably weighed about a third of what the original weighed with the oil that was in it. The guys that are driving/towing on flat land may get away with it a bit longer than I did. Just an FYI for you and your peeps. Take care brother!

I took my Ram (2017) to the dealer concerning the recall. He advised me to not get the update as it would decrease fuel mileage and engine power. He also said the recall’s purpose was to bring the 49 State trucks into California emission compliance. If so, how does burning more fuel per mile help the environment? Seems the folks that brought us the Covid fiasco moved across the hall to the EPA.

Someone posted an interesting video about this recall. Their findings were that they changed the programming of the def gauge sweep (shows less now so when you run out, you can still be epa compliant for the 600 miles until it puts you to 5mph) and some other low def software changes .

Had my 2022 done. I've noticed more frequent regen in city driving. I really haven't taken it on a long drive yet, but the AZ winters typically had more regen than the summers did. I have noticed more since getting it done. I'll know more about long haul drive when I take a vacation later down the road.

Ram didn’t do anything wrong it was Cummins, and on a couple of the forms were guys have had the flash done noted that the calibration for how much death was in the tank changed. One of the guys would run his truck pretty much empty of death and add a 2 1/2 gallon tote to it and it would read almost 3/4 of a tank after the flash. He noted that adding a 2 1/2 gallon tote would only take it to a half a tank. I myself I have an 18 that has 138,000 miles on it. I don’t live in a state that requires emissions checks and I probably won’t get it done.

@@klforrest573IMHO, with the “mandated push” with subsidies towards electrification and increasing“illegalization” of ICE engines that once met emissions regs when they were manufactured , going gas may buy you a little more time than a diesel. I think you can see the “writing on the wall” with Cummins proposed Fuel Agnostic Approach. It seems that they want to give their customers the option of using fuels that are accepted as “greener” . Thus avoiding any single fuel becoming penalized with “clean air fees” making it cost-prohibitive as a means of eradicating its usage.

I got the recall letter in the mail a couple weeks ago here in Canada for my 2016. I am teetering on the fence on a delete right now because of a knox censor code that keeps popping up, which may cost quite a bit to replace. And as many have already said the fine was on Cummins, not Dodge.

Did mine two days ago. I can’t tell a difference at all. My Def consumption could go up but time will tell. In California if you don’t get it done you won’t be able to register it. My registration is due next Sept and will have to have its bi annual emissions ( smog ) check. It has always passed with flying colors and doesn’t blow smoke. I would never buy a Ford or a Gm so I’ll just deal with it.

I live in California and I have until July before my truck has to be smogged . I am going to wait it out as long as possible to get a better sense of any negative impacts of the reflash. The fuel economy I am able to consistently achieve on my 2016 with the G56 Manual Transmission is so good that I no longer tell people the true mpg. When I’ve told others my true hand-calculated MPGs, I’ve been called a “liar “ more times than not (so I just say “around 20 mpg” when asked). I don’t mind if it just uses a little more def fluid. But I don’t want to lose mpgs or have any premature failures of emissions components . My wife’s daily driver is a VW SportWagen with the DieselGate TDI. The VW EPA/CARB reflash had a noticeable negative impact on both mpg and performance . Let’s just say we got that problem “fixed”. I hoping in time that the market may produce a similar post-reflash “fix” for the Cummins 6.7 .

Can I ask how many miles you have on the truck. The code indicates a temperature sensor in the exhaust system, however some have found that the DEF system is causing the problem either a bad pump or possibly crystallized injector. I do have a fairly recent video on how to clean the injector and that’s pretty easy. How much DEF do you run through your engine? Are you a high mileage driver or just some local stuff? How often do you put DEF in your tank?. I know that’s a little weird, that code relate to the DEF system. Every time I see a DEF code it’s either the pump or the injector but that is not a 2043 and also whenever I see a problem with the system. You’re limited to 115 miles before it goes into limp mode. Have you cleared the code? There is about four exhaust sensors on the truck, also it could be that. But I would like to know more about the DEF system because that’s pretty easy easy to troubleshoot.

The problem is the low quality fuel here in the USA. Two things prove that. 1st is how the CP-4 fuel pump works fine in Europe, but is a disaster here in the USA. 2nd is how an additive like Hot Shots Secret EDT can give better fuel economy and be cleaner during to reduce the use of DEF, but have a way cleaner EGR and exhaust system.

According to an epa lawyer it’s the factory tuning from Cummins that kept certain emissions controls off and were sold to dealers non compliant. This is the epa version of a kid that got bullied in school who becomes a cop and exacts revenge. They have to get an 85% compliance standard or face additional charges. Abolish the epa.

In addition... Cummins has 3 years to get 85% of affected trucks Reflashed or Face MORE Big Fines for each truck that has not had the recall performed. So if it's not good news for truck owners then Cummins is definitely going to keep their mouth shut about what they are feeding into our Trucks! There is more to it that just a simple happy Reflash! Give it some time driving/towing with the trucks AFTER the recall and see what happens! (Not a week or a month of driving) Ram is not adding all this emissions extended warranty for nothing, although most peoples trucks will be out of that warranty before components need replacement.

The settlement with EPA requires 85% compliance of the recall to be considered settled by Ram/Cummins . I'd expect Ram/Cummins to eventually have to offer incentives to owners to get the recall performed at that percentage. Unlike the VW settlement, Ram/Cummins settlement did not require incentives and buybacks initially to all owners, but I would expect it will be required to hit the 85% number. Most likely Ram will observe the compliance percentages and then decide what to offer. Expect small things first, but it could escalate to trade-in bonuses or even cash compensation. REMEMBER, the EPA is now a weaponized and aggressive organization. Unlike pharma it is not funded by the manufacturers, they will force Ram to comply with the settlement percentage. I will not be coming in for the recall or any dealer work hence forth without compensation, as my truck is out of warranty. I bought a truck with expected mileage and performance, I will not be taking a sofware downgrade without compensation. If your state requires the recall to register it will force compliance.

NO different then a civil trial where damages are so high as to keep the person from doing it again.
