RAM Cummins 2500 Air Cleaner Replacement and intake inspection (4 Years)

It's been 4 years since I removed the foam from the intake air assembly. This video checks the integrity of the baffle and replacement of the air filter.

Mr. Blair. When you change the trans fluid and filter I have a tip. After you drain the trans fluid and remove the pan (wobble extension is your friend for the 4 bolts near the frame) removing the filter is a real mess because there's more fluid behind the filter. To avoid this, drill a 3/8 hole in the filter directly opposite of the sump opening that's on the top of the filter. This will break the vacuum in the fluid system and almost all the rest of the fluid from the torque converter will drain out normally through the filter with no mess. Air can get in through the hole and the fluid comes out the filter. The filter is disposable anyway so drilling the hole doesn't matter. Hope this helps. I enjoy your videos. (I have the Aisin trans. Not sure if the filter is the same on the others.)

Marion I’m curious about that foam sleeve you decided to remove. I know you mentioned you did not want particle’s going into your turbo but do you feel it’s something that can be replaced every time you replace the air filter? Just curious is all.

Hi Mr. Blair, where did you buy your battery cover or insulator?

Where did you get the battery covers? My factory ones are toast.

Whoever purchases this truck some day will be a very happy owner. I purchased my 2010 ram from a guy who was as meticulous as you are sir and my truck looks and drives better than my dads 2017. How do you feel about deleting the Cummins? Wondering what your thought process is for not doing it yet.

Always good advice. 80$ for an air filter is nuts. Wix and Baldwin are under 30$ on Rock Auto. I cant afford to pay dealer prices. Last winter i changed my front axle outside univeral joints. Dealer in states wanted double what Canadian dealer wanted for the parts alone. Shop around its easy money saved. Thanks Marion. Adios.

Closer to 35$ actually for Fleetguard or Mopar.

I have always believed that the foam was in place to absorb some of the left over oily vapor from the PCV filter. Possibly to keep it from building up on the turbo blade fins.

@@walterk1221 when I removed my foam piece as well as the baffle at 10,000 miles the foam piece had a few oily spots all around it you could see it once you pulled it out. When I squeezed the foam, you can tell there was a oily film left on my hands.

I usually change my air filter when the fuel filters get changed; at 15,000 miles.

Marion, how old are your band clamps? I've seen one other video with them rusted out so it's obviously a part we should expect to break with age. Trying to judge when I should expect mine to go.

80$ is pretty steep for a factory filter but how many qaulity choices do we have? Especially when there wasn’t any around just over a year ago. I had to go through 3 dealerships before I found them- bought 2 jic.
