    Cruise control helps save fuel by 7-14% 😁😉 I use cruise control as much as possible and amazed at my MPH in my Ram 2018 Cummins

    I’ve owned my Ram CC LB with the 6.4 for 8 years. It has the 4:10 limited slip rear gear and an empty weight of 7500lbs. My normal mpg is 12 city 14 hwy, while towing its 10-12. Cruising down the highway at 75 mph the RPMs are 2000.

    drive slow and steady for roadtrip is always the key, less gas stop = efficiency. A lot of people just can't do the math right lol. I have seen too many vehicles drive 80-85 pass me and then 20 mins later they are behind me. Unless you can drive 90-100 mph constantly it wont save much time to be honest. I can drive my power wagon at 65-70 for 14 hours no sweat, 16 mpg and 900 miles. If I drive 85 I will get maybe 11mpg and I can only do 9 hours? which is about 720 miles because I will get fatigued sooner for sure.

    Great video. But I could not disagree more on using cruise control. With the new computers in these, using the cruise control whenever possible is the best way to go. I only have 2600 miles on my 22 Ram, 6.4 with the 4:10 rear. My last road trip to Harrisburg I was at 18.7 MPG on the highway. Even with the little bit of around town I had to do my final was 17.4 MPG. On the highway I always run 5 miles over the speed limit. City traffic I don't run cruise

    Great advice Nick but I beg to differ on the use of cruse control. Used to drive every week for over 6 years from NE Ohio to east end of PA close to NJ border , 386 miles each way on I80 and cruse control really helps except when you are going up hill. At times I stayed on cruse but reduced the speed just a bit so the car will not switch gear. Car rated at 34 on highway and in summer with AC on I would get 42+. Due to limited tank size I would generally avoid filling up on my way where gas is generally expensive. Have never driven a heavy duity truck but this works for my car, suv and minivan.

    Nick, love the real world data, the 16.9 to 17 comment was funny, I drove from MA to VA “caring” and it wasn’t till the last few miles I clicked over to 17 😂. As for the cruise control addiction, I am, but I take over on hills, I have found I can keep my speed and not downshift as much as the computer…it gets me through…addiction and all!

    I bet on flat roads it’s better than horrible. I feel like I have a tendency to speed up a lot to keep that cruise going. Meaning to pass someone. Instead of just cancel it and slowing down. But yeah hills with cruise on haha that is deadly.

    Your brain works like mine, however I do really good with cruise control at 65, using the decel when I come up on someone going 1/2 mpg slower instead of passing.

    I have literally the same truck. Mine is getting nowhere near that good of mpgs and I drive super conservatively. 2022 Ram 2500 tradesman with 4:10 gears. No aftermarket engine parts, just a Flowmaster muffler and I cut off the resonator. I have a 3" leveling kit in front and 1" in rear. Running 35x12.50r17s. Wheel is 8.5 wide at a plus 12 offset. The best I've ever got was around 14 mpg driving like 10 under the speed limit when nobody was around. I do all my mpg calculations manually so I know it's correct. Idk why I'm getting such crappy gas mileage. I'm currently at 4800 miles on odometer.

    Ha, you beat me to the MPG video! Have you tried hand-calculating your MPG to see how close the truck's computer was to actual fuel consumption? I've found that mine don't really match that up at all, even when I adjust for the differing tire size. I hope to post mine at stock, an updated one with the larger tires, and then removing the spoiler (and eventually the topper). Thanks for the vid!

    I haven’t done any hand calculating. The reason I haven’t is because there’s still some discrepancies because you really don’t know how full the tank is when it clicks off. Different pumps click off differently. I guess if you went to the same station and the same pump, it’s probably pretty good. Interested to see what you get. GL 👍

    @@NickMango Yeah, I usually adopt the "wait 30 seconds after the first stop and then resume until it clicks once" to hopefully average things out.

    To be fair... Speeding...sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. There's too many variables that can effect the end product. However, when the stars align...youre not gonna meet me at some traffic light 15 minutes down the road. One consideration when comparing your gas mileage to your truck without the camper...might be the tailgate resistance. It's like deadman anchor. You might have 12" extending above your cab now, but its more aerodynamic than it was sans the camper. Just a thought as to why you've increased your gvw while not losing much mpg.

  • @NickMango

    @NickMango

    It’s true that gas mileage is better with a fiberglass cap that’s flush with the cab. It’s possible this is a wash with 12” up and aluminum.

    Your exact findings are how I get 16-19 with my tundra. I grew up on 350-4 barrels. The 2000 rpm thing is fact!! Accelerate slowly, I might add. We're being forced into electric and hybrid vehicles because people don't understand physics!!

    CC is great for people that have a tendency to go faster than needed. Or speed up for no reason. It will save those people gas. I’m not like that. I’m just a right hand lane guy. I bet I could beat cruise control by 1 mpg on my truck. I’ll test it on my next trip.
