united haven't won anything for 3 years mate. I agree Ronaldo doesn't suit the counter-attacking system played under ole, but you have to realize that counter-attacking style is never sustainable as it was proved last season, where they could not defeat villareal with a low-block. They have always been outplayed in midfield, and have been lucky with dodgy pens and comebacks as teams lose stamina last season. If Ronaldo's transfer fee was used for signing a midfielder, then it would have been different but that is the problem with united: not signing players when u need and signing players you don't need just for the sake of selling some shirts.

Those Wolves players played pretty well you know..... For those who don't understand. Yes United were poor but do we need a 15 minute analysis of just how poor they were hardly mentioning how well Wolves played? There were 2 teams there one who made the right decisions, played fluid football and bar some great saves could have had 3 or 4. Not to mention Bruno's game management with the substitutes and Sa's perfect positioning which nullified Uniteds obvious aerial threat. We played our game and managed to exploit United being poor but nah, lets talk for 15 minutes about the overpaid diva's.

Greenwood should've stayed on the pitch. Cavani was the person to take off, Donny replacing Cavani and Ronaldo up top. United needed another midfielder, that could control the game and transition defence to attack. Wolves won the midfielde battle throughout the game.....

I keep hearing talk of this “The Utd way” and even as a Utd fan of nearly 3 decades, I have no idea what that is. Imo, too much of this club’s identity and culture got tied up in one man - SAF. For decades the club neglected proper structures and personnel recruitment at executive and board level coz the brilliant SAF had so much control of everything. Once he left, we were left with an incompetent board and executives and that is reflected in poor recruitment of players for near a decade now. Sometimes it seems to me the Utd suits follow the lead of the media in terms of who to sign or hire and in evaluating talent. Other than in British newspapers, when has Rashford deserved the status he holds at Utd on the pitch. He is brilliant one game then disappears for 3 or 4, he’s never scored enough goals (Jose warned us about this) and his famed pace is a blatant lie. There are way too many of these low-football-IQ, flawed and overrated players at Utd who have been made an integral part of the team and been spoilt and you can see they are a difficult bunch to coach. McTominay the other day was man of the match and today he looked like he’s not even good enough for league one - and that’s the story of his career! Same this applies to Rashford, Shaw, AWB and others who didn’t play today like Pogba, Fred, Martial, Maguire… Rangnick didn’t cover himself in glory today BUT it’s clear to me, any manager will struggle with this lot

True, many are overrated for their wages. Look at Rashford MBE, praised as next big thing like Wellbeck. Now another Wellbeck in making. Scott, pointing other players and walking uninvolved, but play like crazy once a while. Fred, Martial, AWB, Maguire, all looks un interested.

Or Maybe he is not comfortable playing alongside Ronaldo. This season would have been a big season for Rashford’s development as a player forming an attacking trident with Sancho and Greenwood in a 433 formation under Ole but suddenly Ronaldo arrives and everything changes and now he has to accept a secondary role.

Klopp took 5 years of chopping and changing players to finally have a squad who can fully implement his style of play from every single position on the pitch. These United players are used to being lazy under Ole and some of the players are not even United quality. If United wanna gegenpress then Ralf needs backing to get players who suit his pressing style of play. Firmino Mane Keita we’re all players who were signed by Rangnick in Germany. Now they play for Klopp’s gegenpressing Liverpool. Rangnick has a very good eye for talent. He doesn’t go for big names which is the good thing. That £100M could be well spend on 4 players worth £25M each and it can change the entire team. Buying a CM, CDM, ST & RB/CB should be Ragnick’s priority

​@@cbscboys8784 problem with that is United fans arent LFC fans. we are trained and molded to be patients. buying talents that not ready to play and trained them to became world class. this even happen before klopp. suarez, torres and countinho are the example. while United fans demand quick fix because of the amount they spent each year is 4 times (even more) more than LFC. especially when they bought players in the end of their carrier. its not that they are bad, its just all the transfer doesnt makee sense. but whatever, in the end im happy with the result

Naive, they say. Yet, when Ole realized that his favored, high-pressing style of football wasn't a good match for this squad, people started complaining about it being too defensive. I won't claim to be any more intelligent or knowledgeable than anyone else, but it's been incredibly obvious to me for around half a decade now, that Man United's persistent issues are based around the club's lack of ability to build teams with the right quality, and the ability to play together under the same tactical setup. Changing managers to appease fans might work in the short term, but it's never going to change the outcome.

I genuinely don't understand how the manager is at fault when the players just aren't right for the system. Man United need a true box-to-box midfielder. The wingbacks are terrible and this was the best CB pairing we’ve seen from them (which is sad). Bruno needs to start. Furthermore, the striker partnership and the service into the box isn't right or good enough. Zero heart besides Bruno coming into the game late and maybe playing with three in the midfield or even a diamond is what is needed to control the game. Lackluster is the best word I can think of to describe this team.

Pple complaining about Sancho, what were you expecting. He is English, so its given he will be a half season wonder. It's the history of the England.

Not to bash a player when he's down....but the one big highlight I took from the game was Shaw not getting tighter on Traore, he actually stood off and allowed Traore to make it to byline, cross it in, and then Mountinho scored from the clearance. Defending 101.

Everybody at United (players + management) have been in denial for the last few years. In that respect, Arsenal are ahead in their post-Wenger rebuild. Arsenal realized at some point that you have to start from scratch and rebuild. The past means nothing. I get the feeling that Utd have not reached that point. There is a sense of entitlement from the management that they belong in the top tier of european soccer. Constantly throwing money at the problem will not fix it.

Tactics and team selection are the manager's responsibilities. Donny not playing, Greenwood substitutions, playing Matic and Mc tominay against an organised team like Wolves are all upto the manager. I don't agree with anyone who says it's not Ralf's fault.

You can talk about new management and leadership but this united side on paper is one of the best in the prem and they can't put in convincing performances against the likes of Norwich and Newcastle who are both rock bottom. And Newcastle also just got a new manager so no excuses. Conte also came in recently and remained unbeaten but with optimistic performances.

I’ve played at high amateur levels and the speed of the game dictates that teams that can play instinctively generally are more fluid and play closer to their standard. At the top level like this, it’s exponentially faster and that much more important that players are comfortable tactically. The 4-2-2-2 suits none of the team. They were narrow on attack on wide on defense. The opposite of what you want. Ragnick needs to stop being stubborn and playa 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3

Rangnick needs to adapt his system to the players available to him. If after so many games the players do not play well with his 4-2-2-2 system and do not understand it, then it has to change. Persisting with a system that does not work will only worsen the rot and the confidence of the players. Most players were lost in the game against Wolves and could not adapt. Rangnick should have recognised it and changed the system. It's a total disgrace. why is it that Conte has improved Spurs since taking over and MU is still stuck in the rut. The manager has to accept some responsibility too.

They have a lot of attacking players & not enough solid midfielders, so in theory it makes sense to play an attacking formation with as many players getting forward as possible... but that's not working. Rangick needs to try something different. In the short term, they might be better off sticking with the 4-2-3-1 they are used to, but adapting it to involve more high pressing. If they pick up a solid defensive midfielder this January, they may even be better off going 4-1-2-2-1 & being a little more patient with progressing the ball. Whatever they do, they can't just stick with this plan & hope it works. A bad run of form while players adapt to a new system might be OK when building a lower league side, but Man U players & fans are not going to take it well.

@@plus12gaming 4-2-2-2 will never work. Old Trafford is too big and wide a pitch. also it’s against man utd dna and philosophy. they’re known for their fast pace wing play and deadly strikers. Ragnicks formation is too narrow. also Ronaldo scored 120 headed goals LOL that’s amazing right. that’s irrelevant when the ball isn’t coming in from wide positions especially when at this age that should be a key tool in his arsenal. these are just a few problems I have with 4-2-2-2. i like the idea of tho 4-1-2-2-1 because with good LnR Forwards it can be very versatile

He's actually used a 442, 4231 and a 422 it hasn't worked. Ole used a 4231, 3412 & a 353 they couldn't do that. No system works because we have a bunch of individual players who don't compliment ecahother. With that said our players couldn't pass, that's a basic requirement in your locker as a footballer nevertheless a professional footballer. Conte lost last night, and they looked like a mess so there goes that idea... To hear all the nonsense going on in the dressing room with players there's alot going on to address.

People have the audacity to blame Rangnick after all of a month at the club, when there are players such as Marcus Rashford over hitting a simple through ball by 30 odd yards while under no pressure. This is a players issue. Most of the current squad need to be moved on immediately.

@Bella Delphino Rashford was on such form a year or two ago. Nowadays he overhits passes by 30 yards and takes shots which end up being closer to a throw in than being on target. NO manager in the world can account for players like greenwood winning possession of the ball skipping past two players then not even looking up and passing it out of play on the other side of the pitch. Ragnick is certainly not faultless but the majority of Man United players, pretty much everybody past the defence should be ashamed of themselves. Jones , who hadn't played competitive premier league football in 2 whole years, was a potential MOTM pick.

Sancho - RWF playing as a LMF/AMF, Cavani - ST playing AMF, Rashford - LWF/ST playing as AMF. Greenwood - RWF/ST playing as AMF. 2xAMF Fernandes and DVB on the bench. United's team is built for 433 or 4213 or 451. Yes, they dont work enough, but at least get them into their normal positions and work on movement and pressing and if they dont work hard enough get them out. ATM they have the excuse theyre all being played out of position and dont know what to do.

I think the formation is about assessing the players. I think he's working out who will run, as you need to run and have energy to make that formation work and we lack that badly. I think he looked to see how other players stepped up without Bruno, didn't happen. Rangnick is a long term thinker

If Teams like Newcastle, Norwich and Watford who are relegation contenders outplayed us then it shouldn't be a Surprise that Wolves did it. We looked like a Championship Team not Champions League Contenders. Actully even Some Championship Teams play Better than us at times and that is the sad reality.

Everything I've been saying even under Ole. Obviously more so now and to really emphasise, most the players are not good enough, but believe in their own hype. Most have been given lengthy contracts, that have given them a false sense of self worth and privilege. Ralf must now know what needs to be done and has to show why he's worthy of this interim. If he has to drop CR7 and Co for the betterment of the club... DO IT!!!!

The formation is kind of bad. But the main issue is the lack of cohesion between the stars. All of them want to shoot from outside the box. They only pass because they want to get it out of the way so they can shoot again. Sancho was probably the only one who tried to look for the forwards. This is why I said all that shooting from outside the box was bad for the team. They rely too much on luck and less on teamwork.

I've no idea why would anyone play 4222 with Man United. Ole's 4231 was so much better or 4312 with Bruno as a playmaker. The only difference is that Ole is not a manger, but a motivational speaker. Add to that the players. Oh god those players. They are just so many egos there they need a manger who'll control the dressing room like Conti, but they decided not to sign him. Just look at Liverpool and Man City, they play like a unit and they listen to their manager. There's absolutely no one bigger than the club.

I honestly think that the player selection and tactics are up the pole. Perhaps matic is too old to play as a cdm. Perhaps having two strikers over 35 as your strikers is no good. I would play the back 4, but in the middle I would have sancho on the left, greenwood on the right, Scott as cdm, vdb as a cm, and Bruno UpFront with ronaldo. I would also sub ronaldo and Bruno if need be cavani/rashford

I used to love man utd a lot...but these pundits overhyping, overestimating man utd a few days and weeks back and disrespecting other teams makes me kinda develop a wide grin

Tactics are only one half of the problem. The rest is a bunch of players who think they are better than they are. Look at City, Chelsea and Liverpool and you see a group of players working for each other, not primadonnas doing a little here and there.

United players are not good . The players are at fault . They cant even keep the ball to make 5 passes . They cant make a proper cross into the box .

When they had ball there were huge spaces between defence and midfielders of Wolves to use with vertical passes, but everyone were deep besides the defenders of Wolves. And Rashford……??

For the upteenth time I will say it that Ronaldo unsettled the balance of this Utd team People drew dagger at me.His big statue and personality have reduced promising talents like Sancho,Rashford and Green wood to mere school boy players .

These guys may have played the game before but they don't know sh*t as football analysts. Before this coach was announced they were in the studio saying all sort of things about him being the best for United. They praised his philosophy and tactics as if they watch his games in Russia, and how he mentored klopp and Touchel.

Greenwood was the best player for MUFC he looked at his best he picked up positions in the gaps&was the 1 threat the only creative spark &the only one with Jones&Verane who could actually pass the ball Greenwood played some lovely switches of play, Sancho was poor &the Midfield outplayed

United should just go the dortmund route and start playing youngsters in most of there lineup. Owners will also love that cause the value will go high and they can sell. The old united is done! they need to do something different with the transfer plan as well especially with the kind of owners they have.

The team (with many of these players) was deemed not good enough under Mourinho, and the players were unhappy. The team was disorganized and dismal under Ole, while Ole did everything possible to coddle the players. Now the new guy comes in... and the players either aren't good enough or don't want to do the running. Stop talking about the managers. The real fix is identifying players who have both the quality (not McTominay or AWB) and ethic (not Pogba or Shaw) to meet Man U's expectations on the pitch.

Crystal Palace was the best performance under Ralf Rangnick. We saw what Ralf ball and what he's all about. These players don't want to press, there's nothing Ralf really can do, as he's just an interim manager......

@@JohnAbraham-ft5go the Palace game wasn't great. They didn't create much and only scored a late goal from outside the box. There has been no exciting game under Ragnick.

United choosing to rely on Matic, Mctominay and Fred in midfield is one of the most baffling decisions I’ve ever seen.

*Bench Ronaldo and Cavani* I agree with Steive.What is the point in playing 4222 or 442 if wingers like Mason donot pass or create chances for these worldclass strikers.
