I love the character "Father". He's such a good dude and (aside from a few stumbles this season) he is a fantastic dad, committed to his partner (even though she can be somewhat distant, domineering, and unfaithful?)and comes complete with a library of "dad jokes" that he takes SO much pride in. I think my favorite episode is robot gladiator fight when he kind of had a father son bonding day with his "son" giving him his good luck charm, giving words or encouragement, and being so damed excited when Father won his fight. I wish Father got more moments of the kids telling him that they love and appreciate him because he does try his very best and deserves some love b/c it not coming from Lamia lol.

I think grandmother started the devolution process on Tempests baby when they met, which is why mother noticed the change, it’s cry called out to one of the devolved humans and when it took the baby the water did not affect it… I think people that had the fruit will be immune to the process

I don't think the fruit prevents devolution. My logic: the snake panicked when the tree was going to be grown, ate the fruit and the tree as soon as possible to prevent more humans eating more fruit. Grandmother wanted the snake dead. Grandmother's on the devolution side so I assume the snake is on the opposite side. Hence the snake is against devolution and the tree and fruit don't prevent it.

@@bennypoon1506 I don't think that's the case, as Grandmother doesn't want them turning into the trees and showed them it's "bad". My theory is that Campion is the main character, the prophet, and believes all things have a soul (or Sol), androids, trees, etc; and the Serpent was trying to communicate the Entity's wish to Campion. The Entity is using all the people to fulfill the prophecy, and wants to "destroy the planet" in a metaphorical sense, to "create a new planet" in which all humans have Campion's view of love, equality, etc. This is why the Serpent never kills Campion, and always just stares at him. It's trying to communicate imo. Marcus is the anti-prophet, he's against all androids and too dogmatic, which is why the Entity killed him. Edit: I also think that the reason it will "slumber" is because it can only communicate with intelligent life, which is why Grandmother and the "Technocrats" are for survival and dumbing everyone down and are the opposite extreme, anti-religious. Campion represents the balance of religious, and intelligent/pragmatic which manifests as inclusive to all life.

I think so too. Campion was the only one of the kids who they made a point of showing that he was devolving and that he also didn't eat the fruit. And the entity wants humans around (reasons unknown) and wants to prevent Grandmothers plan of devolving them so used the fruit.

There's a deep sense of superstitious dread in this show. For all its vagueness, the creative team deserve credit for this Lovecraftian element. It's not easy to translate to the screen.

Superstitious and religious dread is spread all over the show. The word god is thrown around loosely. The entity, the signal, sol, Mother, the Trust, etc., they're all considered gods at some point in the series. I lost track. 😅

Yes! I fee like I would normally skip a show thats so crazy and silly but the character development and sense of dread and mystery is so good it keeps you hooked. Maybe it’s relatable. Either way it’s an elaborate discussion about society and humanity

Raised by Wolves is so freaking weird, usually I hate things that are a bit artsy and weird but I love this show. It's so different from anything else. Can't wait for the next season!

Completely agree! I really hope we're not dealing with another "Lost", where there is no over-arching story, but the writers make it up as they go along. The plot twists and turns have been totally baffling to me, so much so that I have no idea where this is going. But that's a good thing (so far).

@Kay Challis Yeah that’s your problem you’re comparing it to an organic brain. When we saw grandmothers and mothers dark photon processor it was the size of a golf ball. Much smaller than an actual brain and the photo processor in the serpent was like 4x as big as mothers and grandmothers like a small melon.

I think they should have allowed 10 episodes, after seeing somethings throughout the season. Sue's big attitude change to love / believe in SOL was so fast and mother killing the snake in under a minute. makes these things seem rushed and missing some elements.

Having just finished watching the series I would have to say the last 3 episodes feel rushed to me and a real shame it got cancelled.

When GrandMother was standing over Mother and talking about her plan, it reminded me of the ending of Alien: Covenant when David was standing over ol' girl!

In Season 3 Father will discover his connection to grandmother , figure out how to stop her or slow her down and free mother. Father’s superpower is his ability to be tuff, endure and figure things out. He is a man of action and bravery but he will never have the power of mother or grandmother.

The serpent is trying to keep them from devolution. Yes, it was aggressive. But went for the fruit right away. Then chased Campion away from the water. And attacked at the water three times to what seems to be warning him away. Also, ate the Tree to try and prevent the humans from eating the fruit.

@@elvisman2000 You think that is what happened? There was an electrical storm surrounding the serpent. But, we never actually saw number 7 attack the tank. Flying lower in the hologram but never did we see it actually attack. As for mother, number 7 didn't want to attack. Remember it was mother who tried to attack first. The serpent just knocked her out not destroy. Rhe serpent seems to not want the humans to eat the fruit. I stated earlier why the serpent attacked the ground was to push Campion away. Then attacked the water to scare Campion from going to it. Remember Campion stated he wish he could go into the water in the finale.

I hope season 3 is renewed, what a beautiful show.

The genius of this show is how they set up that plot twist very early on with all the clues leading to grandmother having different motives entirely. They also misled us to think Mother was going to become a dictator, but really she was right to mistrust everything that was happening. I love this dynamic. Season 3 is gonna be intense right off the bat. Can't wait.

@@sumtingwong8592 Happy for you that you liked it so much😊. But me, I loved the first season but the second just got too...silly. There was too much "amazing, shocking" twists etc, piled on one after the other. And why oh why did they keep going back to the acid seasside????? But that's me.

The show has fulfilled a part of me , which started opening back in prometheus, the Android led plot is amazing , the visuals are breathtaking 💙

‘Run by fruiting’ with the pop up of Mrs.Doubtfire really made me laugh, thanks for putting that in there XD

This show is pretty intense if you're a sci-fi junky. I was, however, disappointed with the season 2 finale. It would have been helpful to tie up at least ONE loose end. Regardless, I'm praying to Sol that season 3 gets the green light.

Yes, I was almost certain 3 was a go. Too bad. Not a single storyline will be resolved. Frustrating.

The serpent was trying to save them. It felt like it was maybe trying to protect them.

There needs to be more discussion about the ancient creatures. (Like the one Marcus encounters this season deep in the hole.) Before they de-evolve, they look just like the Engineers from Ridley Scott's Prometheus or the somewhat more primitive versions that get destroyed by David in the opening of Alien: Covenant. The similarities are too great to be coincidence. So, how does the Raised by Wolves universe connect to the Alien prequels?

Ridley Scott went on record saying that this series is not connected to the Alien universe, but could be called a spiritual cousin. I'd like to see a direction connection too - maybe he'll encourage that one day.

the connection is in the concept and deep parts of story, which points to some occult secret about religion stories, maybe thats why then cancelled season 3

It is important to note that Lucious was under the influence of the entity, and the entity wanted him to take Marcus to the resurrected "Sue" tree, and place that "torture" helmet on Marcus, this was all planned for a purpose. The entity knows what Grandmother's plans are, although the entity has been manipulating humans since the beginning of time, it is now apparent that it needs humans to survive (Intelligent humans) for what purpose, we just don't have that data yet, but what we do know is that it will try and stop Grandmother's plans to devolve humans again, and the entity has given powers to Marcus. It will be Marcus that rescues mother, I am pretty sure of that. As for flight, we really don't know what technology is used for flight, the serpent was "organic" and received that ability from mother, mother flies, but we don't know what allows her to fly, all this technology originated from the entity, the helmet is worn on the head, and is entity tech, so it it's not far fetched to assume, it did some "programming" of Marcus's neurons. I agree, with your assessment on Sue, she is not out of the picture yet (I hope not). I don't believe in coincidences, the fact that lucious was told to hand Marcus to THAT particular tree trunk, which was part of Sue. was done for a reason. she may, as you say, be able to communicate with Marcus, or maybe, they will share the same body, becoming "one".

I hope you are right. Sue is a great character and it will be/was sad to see her leave. I absolutely love the character of Marcus. He is both a sinner and a saint, a believer and an atheist. Marcus is such a complex character I kind of want him to be the hero/main protagonist but with this show nothing is clear cut or defined.

But Mother is also against the entity. She basically caused the humans downfall. The tropical zone is now dead like the other side. I don't see how they'll all survive. Sol is winning tho. He has access to all the humans now and the tropical zone is dead.

The Entitiy ordered Lucous to nail Markus to the tree. So that Marcus would become a superpowerful Prophet for SOL. But, Markus has been so hardened by the stuff he has been through. He's is able to resist. (Remember conversation with Grandmother. Gandmother: "The Entity will try and control your mind." Markus: Well he's gonna find that it ain't that easy.) Markus will have "new" SOL powers, but still a sceptic with freewill. The snake never tried to kill Campion. He was supposed to. But his emotion wouldn't let him. (Remember when Mother started talking about #7 to Grandmother. Grandmother was happy at first. But when Mother told Grandmother that #7 had emotions. Grandmother immediately changed her tune and agreed to help Mother kill #7. In effect killing two birds with one stone. !. Getting rid of #7. 2. Tricking Mother into putting on the veil. (Remember she was already "fixing" the Cryopods. Whe Father told her Mother was going to wear the veil a bit longer. So she already knew what she was going to do.) Also Camion only copied part of the writing. The "important" part is in the half that he didn't copy. The BIG question? Why doesn't Father (or someone else) use the facilities of the Tarantula to track down Mother. They are all so nonchalant. What gives?

I’m definitely not sad. That serpent was an abomination. This disembodied entity/signal is behaving as if playing chess. Everyone in the show has been used like pawns. It knew mother couldn’t easily bypass her caregiving program. Knowing the blind spot. So took advantage while she was vulnerable in that simulation, not designed for androids. Her making love with creator was literally the signal infiltrating. Than Marcus was told to spare mother’s life for that purpose only.

Paul, Marcus and Vita ate from the tree and they all have found a relic. I just find that commonality interesting. Maybe those who eat/ ate the firut is safe from the voice or those who ate the firut are more likely to find the relics. This show is so good! im exited for the next season!

Marcus was so close to going down and getting some fucking answers that Lucius instantly became my least favorite character just by virtue of interrupting him.

This episode felt like the lead up to a finale but not a finale. Left too many big questions kinda like westworld.

5 season series, they are just not going to give up all it's information at the end of the second. we did find out a lot, we now know, how, and what caused the humans to devolve, most importantly we now know it wasn't the entity that did it. we know the serpent, was did not intend on killing Campion, I think it just wanted Campion to be near the shore but not in the water, the serpent was being controlled by the entity through the tree it swallowed. Marcus will probably rescue mother, which is why Lucious what instructed by the entity to put the helmet on Marcus and hang him on the tree, so it could give him power to confront grandmother and rescue mother.

@@isaac-fl7pl I love Westworld the movies the shows but I watch a ton of b rated sci fi I just really love sci fi. I love this show. I just kinda feel like sometimes sci fi shows rely too much on the mystery and keeping the mysterious element that they end up tanking the show. Season 3 of westworld ended odd especially tying the man in black finding his daughter as an android back to the ending credit scene in 1. Even then both those seasons felt like they answered these questions presented in those seasons. I think both of these seasons haven't really answered the questions they posed just within the season and then added not small but large questions. This definitely felt like a penultimate episode and not a finale I think even just eluding a smidge more of the origins would keep people interested. The key problem with this is the time between the seasons.

Man when I watched these episodes I thought I understood everything but man you have just enlighten me with so many facts and details that just happen to go over my head. Thank you thats why I love these breakdowns. You make all the character lines connect

I was right... The "emotional" SNAKE was protecting them by eating the fruit and the tree. There are two forces... 1) attempting to prevent the AI from escaping. 2) intelligent humans helping the entity to grow and evolve.

1 would answer the scratch marks in the cave when father found her . Like who killed grandmother and she is so advanced she can regenerate. Did her partner kill her ? We still don’t understand the unknown ability she had . I thought it was to create life but it’s not .

The other reason for something to destroy itself is to end suffering. The core may have been forced to undergo this pointless cycle of devolution, endlessly restarting humanity only for them to make the exact same mistakes until it finnaly just wants to die.

I think this is the best breakdown of the finale! Im sad for number 7.

I’m not sure if you (the host) or anyone else has mentioned this before, but the idea of destruction and reconstruction, on a cycle as a theme for the series matches very much that of the themes for Walter M. Milller Jr.’s ‘A Canticle for Leibowitz.’ I highly recommend you read. The first few episodes of season one follow a lot of tropes from this novel and the themes seem to carry over. At the very least it’s a sci-fi book I highly recommend. Much like the ‘Dune’ series.

This show so deliciously weird and relatable at the same time...love it

I just felt really bad for number 7 - the snake. It bonds with its mother even though she denied it, tried to kill it, locked it in a cage and biased all the other children more than it. I mean, it never even had a name for god sake. Unconditional love towards its mom led it to its demise. Dude oviously didn't hurt anyone. It tried eating the threat, even though it did attack Mother, I didn't think it was trying to kill her. His last glance was so heart-breaking.

Me too. That poor thing just wanted to be loved by its mother. It was so happy when she sang that lullaby, it thought she finally loved it and embraced her when they were in the sky.

Marcus found the card that warns about the purpose of the seed boxes. The Last Mithraic knew what it revealed when he gave it to Mother....which means Marcus knew exactly what would happen when they opened the box. He isn't mad that Sue turned into a tree...he practically tricked her into opening it.

When you mentioned that there might be a second entity that could be trying to stop the other, it instantly reminded me of Lost, infact there are tons of examples in this show that is very similar to Lost, its why i like it so much

The way Sue turned into a tree but still remained sentient remind me of the Pequeninos or Piggies in Enderverse Also later a tree emerge from the Serpent's body same way a tree would grow from the Pequeninos' dead body to start a new form of their life

Insanely good acting form Paul's actor. When he and Caleb served the tree's fruit, you weren't told that Paul found out about Sue, but you could tell on his face that he found out.

Awesome facts and observations

Marcus hanging upside down is a rendition of The Hanged Man in the Tarot. It represents spiritual transformation, and a gaining of power as a result. The head is placed under the earth, in the darkness, until the transformation is complete. This is accomplished in the same way with the Old Mithraic helmet.

I love the Gigeresque or Lovecraftian feel of the show, the acting is amazing, the story is very interesting. I find Lamia an incredibly well written character. Theres a bit of mistery, intrigue, sci-fi, Giger, Lovecraft, religion, well written characters.. really it has something for everyone

One other thing I wanted to add was that in the content after the episode on HBO was called inside the tropical zone and the finishing statement was mother will be locked away “until season 3” I love seeing mother wrath. It’s exciting to see if Marcus “lives” on in the show.

I also don't get why the Trust bio-bombed Paul trying to turn him into a snake. Regardless, Mother came to the conclusion that he was "evolving" which upset Sue.

I'm pretty sure the bomb was meant for everyone following Marcus, not just Paul. And from the looks of things, the entity Marcus was following is trying to destroy all life on the planet, which would go against Trust's directives of protecting humanity. Makes sense why it would try to stop that.

Maybe the Entity was influencing the Trust and knew it could get Sue to devote herself to it if she was tested, by infecting Paul. They mentioned how Marcus was susceptible to the Entity so this may be a calculation for determining how to attain its goals. Considering the EMF is down and the fabled tree grew and bore fruit that people ate, it seems to be succeeding on spreading its influence.

I didn't really see it as a new tree, but rather the same tree re-forming. It arose from the same part of the snake that it seemed to meld together with when eaten. And in the same direction, with the roots at the mouth - so we may not have.. heard the last of Sue. Bic flipping off Father was, hands down, the funniest moment of the season.

It's tragic how both Mother AND Father have each brought a horror upon their family, in form of No.7 and Grandmother, respectively. They both thought that they were doing something good.

She was lying. They aren’t dangerous to eat. She doesn’t want them to eat the creatures because the creatures are human and her priority is to keep humans safe.

The "energy" veins pulsing in the tree of life/Sue (when Marcus was touching it upon discovering it) looked a heck of a lot like the veins pulsing in Marcus' face when he had mother's eyes in his gut. +1 for dark photon resurrection and "weaponization" for Marcus in season 3.

3:41 I'm pretty sure that's the Serpent's Dark Photon Processor. Mother and Grandmother both have one which gives them their respective abilities, and since the Serpent is part necromancer, it probably has one too.

There is a theory that the evolution of humanity to be able to feel emotionally is what has made us unhappy. So Grandmother wanting to de-evolve us into unthinking animals is her attempt at making us happy.

Love that Grandmother's speech patterns are similar/the same as Fathers

I love how father is portrayed: men can be powerful in their paternal instincts and drives. That masculinity isn’t dominance, and it shouldn’t be the narrative to describe it. It’s really an under spoken accomplishment the show has taken on.

Somehow I see that the show symbolized Jesus in some ways. The kid handing over “Lamia the God” and Marcus being crucified on the tree. The fact Mother flying with two arms wide open also seems like Jesus. Just a thought.
